Delicious, flavorful, thoughtfully prepared Indian food. We had chicken vindaloo and tandoori chicken along with some naan (which was the best I’ve had in a while). The food was thoughtfully packaged for takeout and kept the food perfectly warm. Great experience!
We tried this restaurant for lunch and their food and service were excellent. It was crowded but the owner assured us he would have a table for us very soon; he was right! The buffet was full of fresh food at the correct temperature. I...was pleasantly surprised that nothing was too hotly spiced for my wife who has had trouble with some things on other Indian buffets previously. The service was outstanding as drinks were kept full, etc. The owner stopped by to make sure everything was to our liking before we left. We will be back and will also try their evening menu. Two of us stopped in for lunch at ~1:30 on Monday, December 11. I preface these remarks by admitting I know extremely little about Indian cuisine. We were looking forward to sitting down, examining the menu, and carefully ordering. Alas, this was not to be....It was assumed we were there for the lunch buffet. We weren't, but the social pressure to do what everyone else was doing and thereby not screwing up the restaurant's routine was too much for us to buck the design of things. Also, we did figure we would have the advantage of trying a wider variety of food. We ordered a couple of beverages and set off on our adventure, filling our plates and bowls with at least a bit of almost everything in sight. The food was labeled by little placards, but since I didn't know what too much of it was, they proved to be almost useless for me. We sat down and almost thoroughly enjoyed our meal. My lunch was marred by an entree that was far too spicy for me. When I complained about that to she whom I love, I was told that it was labeled as spicy, which is why she avoided it. Oops, my fault. If we had known it was a buffet, we would have avoided it on our afternoon sojourn to Little Rock. Mind you, we don't regret the experience, and we shall very likely return for the generally delicious food. However, we most assuredly will aim for dinner, when, presumably, we can enjoy a more relaxed meal with full table service. And speaking of service, we were delighted by how friendly and inviting the staff was. We felt welcome and appreciated for stopping in. One can't take that for granted these days.More
We love Indian food and were looking for some authentic cuisine in the Little Rock area. This little restaurant provided a wonderful selection, fresh, tasty dishes and excellent service in spite of being super busy. We will definitely put this restaurant on our list of...favorites.More
I have been coming to Star of India for years. The staff is always on point, your water never gets below 2/3 full if you are having a drink they are always on it when it gets low. The service is outstanding. The food over...the years has remained consistently extremely outstanding. I've tried almost every dish on the menu and can honestly say I feel like I'm back in India with every bite. Sami is great he always welcomes you with "Welcome home" really it feels like family there. This is the best Indian food I've had anywhere in the world hands down.More
I am not a fan of Indian food but this place has changed my mind. We ordered the butter chicken, the chili chicken, and some kind if vegetables all had amazing flavor and was not over powering. Also ordered the assorted bread and loved it....Can't wait to visit again. Highly recommend.More
Sammy welcomes you with "welcome home" the staff is extremely attentive. The food is exceptional, fresh and authentic. The entire experience at this restaurant will make your entire week. Don't pass up the Star of India if you love amazing tasty Indian food.
I agree with the past few reviews where you are pretty much ushered straight to the buffet and not seemingly given a choice to order something specific. It being our first time there we thought maybe there wasn’t a choice, then saw tables around us...with menus. Not a huge deal but we were planning on splitting a single entree but instead both got buffets which is on the other end of the consumption spectrum. Saturday lunch buffet is roughly $20 after tax. Very high-quality white meat chicken in the dishes and borderline too frequent water refills which is better than the opposite.More
Party of 6, dinner, weeknight, with reservation. Seated promptly. Staff was immediately attentive. Incredible menu! Delightful array of chicken, beef, lamb, goat, shrimp, and fish dishes. Several types of naan prepared fresh on the premises. Dinner was piping hot and arrived quickly. Skipped the fantastic...appetizers to save room for dessert, which was a marvelous treat. I dare say this was a 5-star experience, so I was pleasantly surprised by the prices. The meal was wonderful, the staff was great, and the cost was noticeably less than many of the nearby restaurants. There are many amazing restaurants in Little Rock. Star of India is in my top 3.More
I love taking people new to Indian food to meet Sami and to enjoy the lunch buffet. It's fun watching them try different dishes instead of the old burger and fries route. My wife is Scottish so her tolerance for spicy food is very low,...but she loves the buffet. Star of India is 40 minutes from our house but worth the trip. Sami (the owner) is amazing, he remembers everyones name and greets you as though you were a long lost brother! If you want to try great Indian food, this is the place and the lunch buffet is open 11a-1:45p daily.More
A southern town of under 200000 is not where you'd think you would find such a versatile Indian menu. I ordered take away, but I still had top notch service. I live somewhere that has dozens of Indian restaurants and the Star would be VERY...popular.More
Lovely meal at Star of India. We had the assorted hors d’oeurves to start and then I had chicken ginger, with mushroom rice and plain naan, it was all delicious. The staff were and lovely and the owners were so friendly. They assisted us in...getting a taxi back to our hotel, offering to take us if we couldn’t get one! A really lovely evening.More
We have had our share of Indian fare in London and in Pune and this was absolutely comparable with the excellent food we had in Pune. The service was wonderful with the full staff being very attentive to our every wish. If you enjoy food...from northern India, this restaurant should not be missed. Greeted with a “Welcome Home.” We were ushered to the lunch Buffett. I wish I would have had an option to order from a menu because what I wanted was not on the buffet and a menu was not offered. Food was good and the...mango pudding was excellent!!! Staff was very friendly and attentive!More
Outstanding food now matched by seamless take out arrangements. Even, curbside for those not wanting to go inside at all. Online order site provides an exact pickup ready time that is accurate .
