      Critics Consensus

Although not terrible, the sluggishly paced Insurrection plays like an extended episode of the TV series.

George Not great, but much better than new Star Trek Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Alec B It has small things I like (i.e. Picard's romance subplot) but on the whole this is a bit smug and feels very much like a mediocre two part episode from the show's final season. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review Karen G I really liked the movie. I really liked them saving the planet's inhabitants from Starfleet overstepping it's boundries with interfering with a race. I really loved hearing Picard, Data and Worf sing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/09/23 Full Review Wayne K The worst of the bunch of Trek films from "The Next Gen" crew finds Picard in conflict between his Star Fleet values and a directive to relocate an entire population from their home world. Frakes direction is fine-the problem is the script by Michael Piller (with input from Rick Berman). Evidently Piller had a much different film in mind early on. Stewart had concerns thst the film was no more than a glorified TV episode. He was eight. Even though the cast and crew were pleased with the final script, it still feels like a glorified expanded TV episode with better visual effects. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/16/23 Full Review James B Not the best chapter in the franchise, but fans of the show should find enough in there to stay entertained throughout. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/26/23 Full Review Samuel M I actually prefer Star Trek Nemesis to this film Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Jake Cole Slant Magazine Many Star Trek movies are likened to super-sized TV episodes, but 1996’s Star Trek: Insurrection feels more like three or four completely unrelated episodes mashed together. Apr 5, 2023 Full Review Lisa Schwarzbaum Entertainment Weekly Rated: A Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader The extravagant makeup and special effects are actually unobtrusive because they're demanded by the pleasantly formulaic story, whose conflicts--and broad, innocuous political allegory -- justify the heartwarming resolution. May 19, 2008 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Insurrection feels more Star Trek than any other Star Trek film, in the best way possible. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 31, 2023 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) Insurrection is very recommendable for Trekkies. [Full review in Spanish] Jul 20, 2023 Full Review James Kendrick Q Network Film Desk the ideas are, not surprisingly, handled without a modicum of subtlety, with the most explicit messages being stated in sometimes ham-handed fashion by various characters making grand speeches Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 19, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
