Producers cut two DS( fan favorites from Insurrection

For reasons unknown, the producers cut an important part of Captain Picard’s romance with Anij from Star Trek: Insurrection once it was completed, namely the part where the two share a romantic kiss in slow motion. According to WarpedFactor, Patrick Stewart said it was a studio decision, but he really didn’t understand it as he felt as though the audience was waiting for some kind of culmination to the romance which they ended up not getting in the end.

We all know cutting and deleting scenes is part of the process when producing a movie. And sometimes, those deletions can sting. There was also a flirtation between Riker and Troi in a library that was removed, which is a shame, as it would have only added to their relationship before viewers saw them getting married in Nemesis. But there were two cast members from Deep Space Nine that were also cut, one of which would have added a humorous touch to the movie.

Deep Space Nine’s Quark had a part in Insurrection

Max Grodénchik, who portrayed Rom on Deep Space Nine, had a small part in the movie as a Trill in the deleted library scene with Riker and Troi. But Armin Shimerman returned as the ever-greedy, conniving Ferengi he played on DS9. In a brief scene, he was shown trying to set up timeshares on the Ba’ku planet, which, of course, sounds just like Quark.

Grodénchik wouldn’t have been shown as his Rom character so people might not have recognized him, but everyone would have recognized Quark, and it would have been a great little scene to round out the movie, much like he was used to open Star Trek: Voyager. Including Quark would have been a bonus, especially considering DS9 was heading into its final season when Insurrection aired. And who wouldn’t have wanted to see Quark on the big screen?
