Mick George Ltd 'Stand up to Cancer' in groundbreaking new initiative

Stand Up To Cancer is a groundbreaking initiative created to accelerate innovative cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives.

This Autumn, Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK are leading the rebellion, to overthrow Cancer by any means necessary. Members of the public are being urged to pledge support, indulge in their rebellious side and fundraise however they feel fit, with a whole host of celebrities leading the way.

In a special 1000-hour special feature length video, that is set to culminate with a 4-hour live stream this Saturday (15th Oct), people have been sending in footage of their efforts to combat the deadly disease.

Local celebrity, Warwick Davis, best known for his acting and comedy appearances, has joined forces with construction business Mick George Ltd and Princebuild to do their part. Visiting the former RAF Brampton site, Cambridgshire, in which Mick George Ltd are currently completing Demolition works, Warwick climbed aboard an Excavator 360’ to bulldoze is way through a ‘cancerous’ brick wall.

1 in 2 people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime, but we can do something about it. 100% of the money raised and donated to ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ will fund translational research. This takes developments in the lab and transforms them into new tests and treatments for cancer patients right here in the UK.

Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’It’s a sad, but very real situation that many of us are confronted with increasingly, in one way or another. Initiatives such as this are helping push ever closer to a long term resolution to a disease that is causing so much distress across the world.’’

Stump continued: ‘’Last year, Chris Turner, a local sporting icon, lost his battle to Cancer, and as a business, we’re currently donating funds to create a befitting landmark, whereby people can pay tribute to his achievements.’’
