Ways and transport to San Paolo Stadium (Naples): official website

San Paolo Stadium (Naples)

Stadio San Paolo (English: Saint Paul Stadium) is the stadium in the western suburbs of Fuorigrotta in Naples, Italy, and the third largest football stadium in Italy after the San Siro Milan and the Roman Olympic Stadium. For the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, the stadium hosted preliminary football matches. It is currently used primarily for football matches and is the home stadium of SSC Napoli. Built in 1959 and thoroughly renovated in 1989, for the 1990 World Cup and again in 2018-2019. San Paolo currently seats 55,000 spectators.

Seating plan for San Paolo Stadium

The stadium is made in the style of “Bowl”, like most continental venues. Behind the northern target is Curva Nord, the area which meet the most passionate Napoli ‘Ultras’. In contrast, as expected, Curva Sud. This is right next to outside guests, but Nord isn’t quite suitable for its vitriolic passion. The Eastern Stand, or “Tribuna”, continues the two-level style of the rest of the stadium and runs along the edge of the field, while the Western Tribune is considered the “main tribune”, because it houses dugouts, executive facilities and the press area.

Where to buy tickets?

Some foreign clubs make it quite easy to understand their ticketing arrangements, others make it strangely difficult. Napoli seems to have followed the path of Omerta football, keeping things for themselves. It is unclear whether the club offers concession discounts, for example, or how much children’s tickets cost. What we really know is that different amounts are charged for different plots of the ground, with Curva usually being the cheapest section and Tribuna Onore the most expensive. Adult prices range from 20 to 150 euros.

How to get tickets to Naples

The best way to get tickets is to go to the club’s official website. However, if you are a technophobe, you can personally contact the cashier or contact one of the approved stores in the city center.

How to get there?

Naples is a delightful city to visit, and it is used to tourists flocking to it on a regular basis. Therefore, the transport connection is strong enough. Here is your standard choice.

Train

A train from London will take about sixteen hours. You will receive Eurostar from St. Pancras to Paris Nord before moving to Paris Gare de Lyon. From there, the train will take you to Turin Porta Susa and then you will receive domestic Italian service to Torino Porta Nuova. Your journey is almost complete as you get from there to Central Naples. To get to the stadium, you need to take metro line 2 to Mostra, and from there it is only a few minutes walk.

Bus

Bus number 152 runs from the central station to the ground.

Car

Getting to the San Paolo Stadium is not easy, so to be safe, we recommend putting the stadium address in some kind of satellite navigation system and following the instructions.

By plane

Naples International Airport is the closest to the city and is about ten miles or so.

Taxi

A taxi ride from the central station to the ground will take about twenty minutes and should cost somewhere around €15.

Parking near San Paolo Stadium

Stadio San Paolo does not have a special car park, but if you do not like your car, you park near enough through on-street parking. There are also many garages nearby.

San Paolo Stadium Hotels

Naples is a beautiful city that is worth your time. Thus, there are many hotel options available to you on your trip. Here are some of our favorites.

Hotel Cesare Augusto — £40 +

Viale Cesare Augusto, 42, Naples, NA, 80125

This 3-star hotel is approximately 800 meters from the stadium. It features a restaurant, bar, rooftop terrace and garden. There is also a meeting room, buffet breakfast included in the price you pay, free parking and free Wi-Fi.

Hotel Villa Maria — £60 +

Via Nuova Agnano, 37, Naples, NA, 80125

This suburban hotel is about a mile and a half from the ground. It has 29 rooms, a conference room and free Wi-Fi at the reception. Room rate includes complimentary continental breakfast.

Montespina Park Hotel — £70 +

Via Provinciale San Gennaro, 2, Naples, NA, 80125

Featuring a garden, a rooftop terrace and a health club with an outdoor pool, this delightful hotel is about two miles from San Paolo Stadium. It also has a restaurant, bar, free Wi-Fi, free parking and, as it seems, in Italy, a free breakfast buffet.

Pubs and Bars Near Sao Paolo Stadium

Naples has many great bars and restaurants that are worth your time. Here are some of the ones we love for Limoncello’s pre-match.

Pizzeria Pizzaioli Veraci

Via le di Augusto, 68, 80 125 Naples

Perhaps this is the closest place to drink to the ground, this classic Italian pizzeria is not a typical sports bar, but there are televisions, so you can convince them to put on a match while you chew on delicious Marguerite.

Frank Malone Pub

Via Tito Angelini, 13, 80129 Naples

Designed as a typical “pub”, Frank Malone has an excellent menu, plenty of beer and ale, and most importantly, lots of TVs to watch live sports. It is closer to the center of Naples than the stadium, however, only for your information.

Pub Napoli — The Penny Black Waterfront

Via Partenope, 9, 80121 Napoli

The Penny Black is a chain of pubs in Naples, and the Waterfront Bar is decorated in the style of an English pub. There is even a red telephone box at the entrance! Here you will find a delicious menu, a good selection of beers and sports TVs.

Facilities

The development of the stadium will also lead to a significant improvement in the overall equipment of the stadium. But there are already food and drink stalls that can be expected from a large stadium.

Hospitality

Honestly, it’s hard to find specific information about hospitality in the Napoli game, as it seems to fall under the rules of the club’s football omerta. It is best to talk directly with Napoli if you want to watch the game in style.

History

Even despite the fact that Naples in the C1 series in the 2005–2006 season, Napoli took third place in average attendance in Italy for the season: only two Serie A clubs, Milan and Internazionale, have more high attendance. The final Napoli game of the season attracted 51,000 spectators.

São Paolo Stadium also hosted the Euro 2008 Italian qualifier against Lithuania on September 2, 2006 with the possibility of holding other qualifying matches in the future.

Repair 2018–2019

The stadium was renovated in preparation for the 2019 Summer Universiade, which included replacing metal fences with glass fences and replacing seats. This means that the capacity of the stadium has been reduced from 60,240 to 55,000. The opening ceremony and athletics competitions are held at the stadium.
