    • Thank You
We are grateful to those who, after they have been away, contribute their make-up envelopes upon their return. Weekly envelopes support the Church by assisting in the payment of bills and by keeping our Church fiscally sound. St. James is sustained by your generosity, dear parishioners, with the gifts of your Time, Talent, and Treasure. Thank You for everything you do for our parish.

    • St. Joseph Apostolate to the Homebound
      St. James Chapter

“I had a stroke and my life changed dramatically. As a woman of faith, I knew that help was on the way, but it was a slow process. In the many endless days of isolation, I thought, ‘Who else is going through this? What if we got a phone call to revive our broken spirits?’”     Mayme Puccio

St. Joseph’s Apostolate was established to minister to the homebound. It connects caring volunteers who want to be of service with homebound individuals who need encouragement.

So, if you want a friendly, encouraging phone call from a person in your community…OR…if you would be willing to make a phone call to someone in need, please contact the St. James rectory at (973) 790-0288.

    • Blessing of your Home!

“The celebration of blessings holds a privileged place among all sacramentals created by the Church for the pastoral benefit of the people of God. The celebration leads the faithful to praise God and prepares them for the principal effect of the sacraments. By celebrating a blessing, the faithful can sanctify various situations and events in their lives.” (Congregation for Divine Worship, 1984)

Formally, blessing your home protects the family from the deceptions and temptations of the Enemy.

Is it time to have your home blessed? Has it ever been blessed by a priest?

Please call the Parish Rectory, (973-790-0288) if the time has come for the blessing of your home, especially if it has never been formally done. Either I or Fr. Joey will come as soon as possible.

      Fr. Marc

    • Do you need Confession?

The state of grace is the presence of sanctifying grace in a person’s soul. The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines sanctifying grace as the following:

It is “the gratuitous gift of the Lord’s life that God offers to us; it is infused by the Holy Spirit into the soul to heal it of sin and to sanctify it. Sanctifying grace makes us pleasing to God.” (CCC #2023-24).

A person in the state of grace participates in God’s divine life in an extraordinary way. It is true friendship with God. As a gift which only God can give, that person has a stable and supernatural disposition which enables him/her to live with God and act by His love.

When you live in the state of grace, you are very pleasing to God. The presence of the Holy Spirit is powerful in you! Stay in the state of grace always. Don’t lose it by committing mortal sin.

And, if you do lose it by mortal sin, be sure to participate in the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) as soon as possible. By doing so, you can have state of grace returned to your soul! Then, you’ll be back to a wonderful friendship with God!

    • Request a Visit to the Sick & Home-Bound

If you have a relative or friend who is home-bound and would like to be visited by a Priest or
an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, please call the Parish Rectory at (973) 790-0288
      or email us at
      [email protected].

The Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion brings the Church and the comfort of Christ in the form of the Eucharist to those who cannot physically come to church. In this way, the sick and home-bound are united to the Body of Christ present in our community. We continue the healing and compassionate ministry of Jesus, as members of His Body.

Catholic parish in the Borough of Totowa, New Jersey.

Since its inception, St. James Church has been fulfilling the needs of the Catholic community in our area through the celebration of the Eucharist, attending to those in need and administering the sacraments to all who wish to receive them.
