Happy Feast of the Ascension! While we choose to celebrate this feast on Sunday, today would have marked the end of the 40 days the Lord appeared to the Apostles after His Resurrection.

Pope Benedict XVI on the Ascension, "So what does the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord mean for us? It does not mean that the Lord has departed to some place far from people and from the world. Christ’s Ascension is not a journey into space toward the most remote stars; for basically, the planets, like the earth, are also made of physical elements.

Christ’s Ascension means that he no longer belongs to the world of corruption and death that conditions our life. It means that he belongs entirely to God. He, the Eternal Son, led our human existence into God’s presence, taking with him flesh and blood in a transfigured form.

The human being finds room in God; through Christ, the human being was introduced into the very life of God. And since God embraces and sustains the entire cosmos, the Ascension of the Lord means that Christ has not departed from us, but that he is now, thanks to his being with the Father, close to each one of us for ever. Each one of us can be on intimate terms with him; each can call upon him. The Lord is always within hearing. We can inwardly draw away from him. We can live turning our backs on him. But he always waits for us and is always close to us."

In an effort to create a more eucharistic culture

In an effort to create a more eucharistic culture here at Saint Mark, we are going to be having another Adoration time added weekly - every Thursday from 3pm-9pm.

This is a big undertaking having a longer Adoration period and doing it every single week, so help adoring the Lord is needed greatly! Spending time with Jesus in His True Presence reserved in the monstrance is of utmost importance. It will truly change your life as well as those around you, so please think about and pray about what time you can commit to!

You will have the choice to sign up for a continued time slot or a one time commitment. Any help is greatly appreciated, but if you can, consider signing up for a continuing commitment! The Feast of St. Joseph the Worker was created in 1955 as a response to communism in an effort to reaffirm the Christian dignity of work.

Prayer to St. Joseph the Worker
O Glorious Saint Joseph, model of all those who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work in a spirit of penance for the expiation of my many sins; to work conscientiously, putting the call of duty above my natural inclinations; to work with thankfulness and joy, considering it an honor to employ and develop by means of labor the gifts received from God; to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience, never shrinking from weariness and trials; to work above all with purity of intention and detachment from self, keeping unceasingly before my eyes death and the account that I must give of time lost, talents unused, good omitted, and vain complacency in success, so fatal to the work of God.
All for Jesus, all through Mary, all after thy example, O Patriarch, Saint Joseph. Such shall be my watch-word in life and in death. Amen.

Happy feast day to St. Catherine of Siena, Italian mystic and doctor of the church!

St. Catherine lived a beautiful life devoted to Christ by serving his poor and needy. St. Catherine often received mystical visions of Christ and at the age of 21, visioned a "mystical marriage" to Christ in which she totally gave herself over to the Lord. She was called from then on to a life devoted to serving and loving the poor. Later on in her life, through a miraculous vision, she learned to read and write, writing over 400 beautiful letters to which she was named as a doctor of the church in 1970 for her great spiritual writings. She also even worked in the diplomatic sphere, helping to keep the Church together and convincing the pope to return back to Rome. She died at the young age of 33 after living a life supplemented by austere prayer, performing many miracles and accomplishing great things. Above all, St. Catherine of Siena lived life with a childlike faith, built upon total dependency to Jesus.

Starting next weekend, the Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit as catalogued by Blessed Carlo Acutis, will be coming to Saint Mark!

The parish hall will house 30 display boards delving into many of the different Eucharistic Miracles that have taken place. This is a great opportunity to continue to learn more about the Lord's True Presence or maybe even dispel any doubts!

The vision of this group will be shared with the opportunity to give comments and ideas for future events!

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation when the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary. Mary's yes, her "fiat", was the ultimate act of surrender. Through our Blessed Mother's example, we are all called to give our own "fiats" to God in our everyday lives in both the big and the small. May she pray for our increased humility and obedience that we may accept her son Jesus Christ into our own hearts.

From Pope Benedict XVI : "From all four Gospels we know that Jesus’ final meal before his passion was also a teaching moment. Once again, Jesus urgently set forth the heart of his message. Word and sacrament, message and gift are inseparably linked. Yet at his final meal, more than anything else, Jesus prayed. Matthew, Mark and Luke use two words in describing Jesus’ prayer at the culmination of the meal: “eucharístesas” and “eulógesas” – the verbs “to give thanks” and “to bless”. The upward movement of thanking and the downward movement of blessing go together. The words of transubstantiation are part of this prayer of Jesus. They are themselves words of prayer. Jesus turns his suffering into prayer, into an offering to the Father for the sake of mankind. This transformation of his suffering into love has the power to transform the gifts in which he now gives himself. He gives those gifts to us, so that we, and our world, may be transformed. The ultimate purpose of Eucharistic transformation is our own transformation in communion with Christ. The Eucharist is directed to the new man, the new world, which can only come about from God, through the ministry of God’s Servant."
