How to Remove a Deep Splinter

To remove a deep splinter, first wash your hands and the splinter area with soap and water to help prevent infection. Soak the area in warm water for a few minutes to make the skin softer. Then, sterilize a needle and tweezers with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball. Use the needle to gently break the skin where the splinter is so you can access it. Pull the splinter out in the direction it entered using the tweezers. Re-wash the area with soap and water and cover it with a bandage when you’re finished. See your doctor if the splinter is large, too deep to access, or in or near your eye. You should also see a doctor if you notice redness, swelling, excessive pain, pus, or warmth around the splinter area.
