Projectors for the next generation

Project brilliance, with greater impact on your audience and less impact on the environment. Laser projectors from Sony need minimal maintenance and offer the best in efficiency, response, and convenience.

Project into the future

Sony's approach to efficient performance requires meticulous product development. The virtually maintenance-free laser light source helps minimise resource consumption, and the 3LCD system’s instant startup conserves time and energy.

Eliminate the need for lamp replacement
Eliminate the need for lamp replacement

Since the projectors contain laser light sources lasting up to 20,000 hours and don’t require lamp replacement, they are practical and cost-effective. The efficiency of the laser light sources means a reduction in resource usage, and the elimination of lamp maintenance makes them better suited for ceiling-mounted installations and the like.

Fast startup to save time and energy

Thanks to Sony’s Z-Phosphor™ laser light source, the projector starts up in seconds and shuts down in an instant, saving both time and energy. The Auto Light Dimming mode saves further energy (up to 95% compared to full output) by reducing light output when the projector is on but not in use, while the Auto Picture Mode adjusts the light level to suit the projection.

Mercury-free laser light source

Unlike other high-performance projectors, which use conventional lamps that require replacement and proper disposal, Sony’s Z-Phosphor™ laser light source contains no mercury. The projector maintains exceptional image quality, ease of use, and less environmental impact.

The latest generation of laser projection

Sony's latest 3LCD laser projectors offer comparable brightness and image quality to conventional UHP lamp projectors, but have the advantage of longer lamp life, easier maintenance, and faster startup and shutdown.

Simply speaking, a laser light source uses a bright blue laser to excite phosphorous material which then creates full spectrum light. The result: consistent, vibrant RGB colour.

A new-generation BrightEra™ LCD panel, developed by Sony, is durable enough for up to 20,000 hours of operation.

Designing for the future

Tsuneharu Nomura

Chief Light Source Engineer, Projector Design

For years, typical high-performance projectors for business use have relied on lamps containing mercury. In comparison, semiconductor laser light sources start up instantly and require no replacement for years and years of use.
I always follow our development policy “What do customers want?” We need to be aware of both customers’ expressed wishes such as for “no lamp changes” and “rapid startup”, as well as consideration of the environment, which may realise customers’ unexpressed expectations.
There are always hurdles to overcome in new technology and product development, but as laser projectors become more responsive to customer expectations, I want to be conscious of the environment in creating future products.
