Hi - I have seen so much information related to Norway in a Nutshell tour and very little with Sognefjord in a Nutshell. It seems the latter is just longer but gets all of the same scenery of NIN. Does anyone know the differences or have gone on the Sognefjord tour?
The longer one runs along the entire Sognefjord and along the coast to Bergen. NiN covers the inner shortish branches of the big fjord + bus ride through iconic Nærøydalen (see photos). NiN is more varied and the outer part of Sognefjord is not that important

Thanks. My goal was to get from Oslo to Bergen, and wanted to do a little more than the NIN, I keep seeing Balestrand mentioned, and saw that I can do the entire trip with Sognefjord in a Nutshell (and stay in Balestrand a couple of nights). But yes, I can see that a 5 hour ferry to Bergen can be a little much if it's not too interesting of a ride. My alternative is to go to Balestrand as a side trip from NIN, and seems the best way to get to Bergen would be to double back through Flam vs. this 5 hour ferry ride? We are not renting a car if we can help it for this particular trip.
Balestrand is fine with a classical hotel, and convenient if you get a boat connection. But depends what you have in mind. Don't put too much weight on places being mentioned.

Thank you everyone. I guess I am trying to avoid staying the night in Flam, but by doing so, I seem to be making things a little more difficult for myself. I've been reading lot about Balestrand and thought that looked like a good place for a couple of days. I almost wish I could skip this NIN because of the crowds, but feel I will be making a huge mistake.
