Figured we should have a general Netflix thread where we can post all things related to Netflix to capture the stuff we don't have a thread for.

Cannes 2021: Still No Netflix In The Lineup Despite Ongoing Conversations
By Andreas Wiseman

Netflix remains out in the cold when it comes to the Cannes lineup.

The festival and the streamer, despite ongoing conversations, are still unable to bridge their differences and so, once again, the Croisette will be devoid of Netflix movies.

Cannes insists on a local theatrical release for movies playing in Competition but has previously offered the streamer non-Competition slots. ‘Out of Competition’ hasn’t appealed to the streamer.

America: The Motion Picture | Channing Tatum | Official Trailer

For, like, thousands of years, the origins of the United States of America have remained shrouded in mystery, lost to the sands of time. Who built this ‘country tis of thee,' and why? Only the dinosaurs know… until now. For the first time in human history, the incredible, completely true story of America’s origins are revealed in AMERICA: THE MOTION PICTURE — a once-in-a-lifetime cultural event available the only way the Founding Fathers ever intended their story be told: On Netflix, on your phone, June 30th. Starring America's sweethearts Channing Tatum, Jason Mantzoukas, Olivia Munn, Judy Greer, Bobby Moynihan, Raoul Max Trujillo, Killer Mike, Andy Samberg, Will Forte & Simon Pegg.

This goes back a few years, and a search didn't turn up anything, but I really enjoyed this series. Gritty, and at times brutal, but very real.

Cannes Chief: Netflix Declined Invites to Premiere Campion’s ‘Dog’ and Dominik’s ‘Blonde’

Campion is a Palme d'Or winner and Dominik competed at Cannes in 2012. Neither filmmaker will be at Cannes 2021.

Zack Sharf

Cannes general delegate Thierry Frémaux revealed in a new interview with Deadline that he invited Netflix to the 2021 festival to world premiere Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog” and Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde” in out of competition slots, but the streaming giant declined. Some industry players thought 2021 could be the year Netflix returned to Cannes after it was rumored that Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods” was lining up an out of competition premiere in 2020 to coincide with the director heading the competition jury. That premiere never happened as the pandemic canceled the 2020 festival, and now we know after yesterday’s 2021 lineup announcement that Netflix won’t be attending this year.

“[Paolo] Sorrentino’s movie [‘Hand of God’] is not at all ready,” Frémaux said when asked about Netflix invites in 2021. “Jane Campion’s movie could have been ready, Andrew Dominik’s film [‘Blonde’] could have been ready — it’s beautiful, I saw it — and I invited those films Out of Competition. Netflix doesn’t want to come to Cannes, but I invited them anyway and alas…It’s important, it’s not us refusing Netflix movies, it’s Netflix who doesn’t want or can’t…They want to come in Competition but films that are part of the Competition must be released (theatrically) in France.”
