News / An Etsy for island businesses, Pink Floyd tribute concert cancelled, feel good bags from Mind Your Head

MORE than 30 local businesses have now signed up to be listed on a new web portal that promotes products from the Scottish islands.

Created by Rhoda Meek of Tiree Tea, the www.isle20.com website aims to support small island-based producers during the Covid-19 pandemic by allowing people to shop from the comfort of their sofa.

The site has almost 400 businesses listed from Arran in the south to Unst in the north, with some businesses selling their products directly through the website.

In a blog Meek said: “I am essentially creating an Etsy for island businesses. People who visit isle20 will get the chance to browse the marketplace, and see all products, as well as search and buy from more than one of us at once.

“Some of the folk selling via isle20 don’t currently have an online shop, or a means of taking online payments. Other folk have an online shop, but are selling a few things via isle20 in order to boost their profile.”

THE MUCH anticipated concert by tribute band What the Floyd at Mareel on Sunday 14 June has now been cancelled.

Shetland Arts said on Tuesday that the concert had “unfortunately”  been cancelled by the promoter.

All refunds will be processed automatically, but if people have paid by cash, they are asked to email admin@shetlandarts.org to arrange a refund.

MENTAL health charity Mind Your Head has been awarded £1,000 from Voluntary Action Shetland to help the organisation continue supplying and delivering its much sought after feel good bags.

Voluntary Action Shetland is making payments on behalf of the supporting communities fund for Lerwick.

Mind Your Head service manager Anouska Civico said: “I think now more than ever people need to stop and take time out for themselves.

“We are all under so much pressure right now and it is too easy to get caught up in the mania that surrounds the current situation. Hopefully these bags will provide some much needed resources and items that will allow individuals to indulge in some self-care”.

To nominate yourself and others please visit Mind Your Head’s website or phone the office on 01595 745035.
