    Great images from this camera
I decided to upgrade from my point and shoot to a camera with interchangable lenses and full manual control capability. In the film era I used a Nikon Ftn and Nikkormat but I couldn't afford the top tier digital Nikon, and this kit seemed a good compromise with the two zoom lenses. So far it has out performed by best expectations. I don't really use the special effects but I do like the aperture and shutter controls and the high quality of the image. I'm going to attach a photo of the moon I took from my front yard with the 200mm zoom lens and it speaks for itself. I think I adjusted the film speed to 800, the shutter was 1/125 and the aperture was 5.6 I croped it and adjusted lighting and sharpness in photoshop - but the camera captured all the data in raw format that I need to make the image. I've also used the camera to photograph a roof problem in an old post and beam church - in the attic, very low light, using the both the time exposure and auto setting and the flash - also great detail. I also photographed a Tiffany stained glass window in the church which had a great variation of light values coming through various parts of the glass - and, again, the camera out performed my expectations.Edited to add - new discovery today - all my old Nikon F lenses fit this camera - that allows me to take macro photos in manual mode - it takes some experimentation with the settings but since you can see the photo instantly, that's not a problem - it expands the capabilities of this camera for me at no extra cost.

This is an excellent buy for someone starting in the the world of photography. I really have no previous knowledge of photography so I can really review this camera as a beginner. I must say I was quit daunted by SLR cameras as I'm only accustomed to the point and shoot ones so I wasn't sure if I could have taken great pictures with a DSLR camera. But to my surprise I got really stunning results!
To begin with this camera is quite lightweight and is great for smaller hands like my wife's ones (who I actually brought the camera for) She used it with the greatest of ease. The quality of the camera lenses and bag is very sturdy and yes even though I knew Nikon made great cameras the finish and use of all the buttons switches etc. were very smooth and solid.
As beginners we relied heavily (and solely for now :-) ) on the automatic settings that came with this camera. I must say I was actually blown away by the quality of pictures we got with these setting even in low light. We went on vacation days after we brought this camera and got amazing pictures despite our lack of photography knowledge. The child setting was really impressive as I got some wonderful shots with my kids in action which looked really professional. If in doubt the auto setting was always great and I can say no picture was really bad. Its nice NIkon has 2 lenses with this kit which came in handy for the distant shots and the "professional" close ups. It really had our interest at a peak. It comes with VR but the pictures I always got were so clear I really didn't have a need to use it thus far.

My only "con" for this is not with the camera itself but it would have been nice if lens filters were included to protect your lenses. We are now getting into understanding some of the basics of photography and in time we will really use this camera to its full potential. But if you really want to learn photography this camera is a real motivator. I also recommend buying this camera through amazon and not through a 3 rd party seller as the delivery was fast and a lot of 3rd party sellers do have a mix and match set with non original nikon fittings where I heard other reviewers complain about parts don't fit etc. This set came directly from nikon itself in one box and it works perfectly!

Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2015
I have been using this camera just over 8 months now and I am very pleased with the performance of this camera in casual shooting and it has even managed to hold its own for me when tasked with some light event photography. The camera body is fairly light in hand in comparison to other DSLRs such as its predecessors the nikon 3200 and 3100 and it is also considerably less bulky than the 5300 and all 7000 series dslrs which make this camera very convenient for out door work. In portraiture the kit lens do more then you would expect in terms of quality; they are relatively fast autofocusing (for a kit lens) and the new VR2 lens design makes them much more compact than their predecessors as well. As a new photographer with this being the first DSLR I have ever owned I have found that through use of these lens that they are out grown fairly quickly. After a couple months of use the 55-200mm VR2 kit lens became inadequate in terms of its zoom capabilities. Despite that the biggest difference between a DSLR and a point and shoot is the ability to use different lens actually stopping to get your 55-200 lens and switch it with your 18-55 or vice versa nearly always causes you to miss the shot. For this reason I would recommend investing is a sigma(a third party company) 18-250mm lens and forgo purchasing the 18-55 and 55-200 since it will not require upgrading nearly as fast as the kit lens.

It is the holiday season and the internet is flooded with inexperienced parents doing there holiday shopping as trying to figure out what all those acronyms mean and may be thinking that the magnitude of the number on the zoom is the soul factor on quality of a lens. If this may be you here is what you should know about this product.
    -Brand Nikon
-Nikon makes two types of DSLRs FX sensor bodies and DX sensor bodies. FX sensor bodies are larger and there image quality is higher but so is their price; DX sensor bodies are smaller (since the DX sensor is smaller than the FX sensor) but their images are more noisy than that of and FX body
-Noise is when a picture looks like there are grains of sand on it or white particles.(Noise is genernally unpleasant)
-ISO is light sensitivity. When shooting in a darker are you increase your ISO to make the image brighter. The higher the ISO the more noisy the shot becomes. On this camera the noise produced between ISO 100-1600 is negligable. The noise at ISO 3200-6400 is noticeable but still manageable. The noise produced at ISOs higher than ISO 6400 I have found can make the shots unusable. (That is my opinion not necessarily through for someone else).
-Shutter Speed is the amount of time light is allowed to come in contact with the shutter whilst taking a single image.Shutter speed is measured in seconds and fractions of a second. The highest shutter speed(smallest amount of time) on this camera is 1/4000 of a second.
-Aperture is size of the opening in the lens in which light can pass through.
-ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture control image exposure on digital cameras
    - Image Exposure is how much light comes in contact with your cameras sensor when taking a single image.(How bright or how dark your image is)
-This camera comes with Zoom lens
-Prime lens are lens that do not zoom. Zoom lens are more convenient but prime lens produce images of significantly greater quality
-The 18-55mm kit lens paired with a reverse ring does excellent macros
-Macros are photos of small things so that they look big when scaled up for example a picture of a fly

In summary this camera will give high quality performance in use and is very reliable with superior battery life to its predecessor the D3200 and comparable image quality to that of it 5000 series counter part the D5300 but the kit lens are not the best. They are good when it comes to kit lenses but they are just trumped in terms of quality produced by other equivalently priced prime lens. Thankyou for reading and I hope my revue was helpful and made your DSLR shopping experience easier. Happy Holidays.

Great package deal! While certainly not my first digital camera, this is indeed my first DSLR. It's a great kit for that, because it comes with two lenses, a case, and (with the configuration I got) an SD card and wifi module. The WiFi module seems kind of useless only because of the app (Android), which most of the time doesn't even open on my phone. Frustrating in that regard. The camera case is very well made; that really surprised me. Nicely padded inside. The camera itself is pretty basic as far as DLSRs go, but oh my does having a DSLR feel fantastic. I very often use all shutter speed and ISO settings, as well as manual/auto focus operation and zoom. Picture quality is great, nothing to complain about there. Video looks great as well. Battery holds charge for a good length of time. I get many uses out of the camera before needing to charge it. Lenses are great for starting out photography. The short range lens (18mm) has a wide-angle effect at 18mm which can capture a whole lot of space (great for being in a room with people and getting many people in shots). As the lens is zoomed out the wide-angle effect goes away and yields an interesting focal length effect. The long-range lens (200mm) is great for swapping out and getting distance shots with even more depth of field effect. These two lenses pretty much cover all my needs, especially at the low price point they were at with this bundle.

Edit: I've had this camera for the better part of a year so far and love it more and more. I just ordered some back up batteries so that I can always have a spare on the go, even though each charge usually lasts me a couple photo sessions at a time as it is already.
