Skyview Los Alamos is a modern boutique hotel born from an Iconic 1950’s motel overlooking Los Alamos wine country. Set just off California’s iconic Highway 101, it offers 33 rooms, including two spacious suites and 16 deluxe rooms with fireplaces and private decks overlooking the rolling hills wine country. The five-acre hilltop property has its own full-service restaurant- Norman, a working vineyard, edible gardens and restored 1950’s era pool. The hotel's original midcentury architecture was updated to a modern rustic aesthetic and softened with luxury trimmings: flat panel televisions, down duvets, leather club chairs and marble-clad bathrooms with organic small batch amenities.

VERY impressed. Gorgeous re-do of an old motel. The rooms are small-ish but really well-styled and seems to be pretty high quality. Comfy beds. Landscaping is really nice, there's a great outdoor firepit. Pool was small but nice and the service was all great. We were there during covid and it was near contactless. Used texting for room service and any requests, which was efficient. Rates were pretty reasonable but one quip is they say breakfast is included but really you get one $10 credit off whatever breakfast order you place. So, for 2 of us our breakfast was about $22, so $10 deducted from that.
I'll stay here again when I'm in the area.

We did a girls overnight stay at the Skyview had a great little room with a fireplace and and outdoor firepit. Super cute room could of used another trash can not sure why they are so tiny. We went in the heated pool was awesome although we ordered 2 drinks, one jameson and ginger beer and one titos and tonic (both were talls) the bill you ask? 72 DOLLARS!!! I was a bit tipsy and my friend signed. When i saw the receipt later I WAS SHOCKED!!!!!! Now to the not so great part! We were recommended by staff to eat at the restaurant Normans :the food is great"! We ordered fries, brussel sprout app and some thing w chicken. We got the brussels, they were stone cold and not thoroughly cooked we politley asked to send back, well because of covid they had to remake them. We asked them to cook them just a bit more NOPE second batch was worse than the first. My friends chicken dish was so horrible we just boxed it up and took back to the room. I wanted to express the distain for the food but my friend kept insisting that if we said anything it would be worse!?? Needless to say we went back to the room starving, no ubers, nothing to take you downtown after you have been drinking. which sucked but whatever.

I’m working in Golita, California, and my wife flew out to spend 3 weeks. We chose Skyview at the recommendation of our son and we were not disappointed. It’s a small “boutique” motel that was updated a few years ago. Check in was a breeze and all of the rooms are close to parking. We were assigned Room 8 which has a king size bed, indoor gas fireplace, and outdoor gas fire pit. FYI the control for the fire pit is on the wooden wall that separates 8 from 7. An outdoor shower is advertised but not functioning. Tara from the front desk said that the county closed the showers because of neighbor complaints. It’s true that our patio overlooks a beautiful valley with cows and horses and there are few houses on the other side of the valley. I suspect that the person that complained must have been using binoculars. More likely is that a spouse probably complained after catching the other spouse with binoculars. 😉 Our room has a very nice walk in shower with great water pressure and extra large towels. The pool is great and is very close by. Currently a reservation is required for a poolside lounge chair but even on the weekend with a full motel we had no problem getting a reservation through Tara and poolside towels are included of course. The best thing about the pool is there is a bar that serves drinks and food. The chips and guacamole are terrific with both being homemade. We received a large serving of french fries prepared perfectly, crisp as requested. If you are up for a weekend of wine tasting in the Foxen Canyon, I highly recommend Skyview Motel as your home base.

This is the second time I’ve stayed at the Skyview Motel (first time in room 18 and this time in room 26, both rooms have gas fireplaces, 18 had an outdoor shower and a gas fire pit on the private patio) perfect place to stop if you’re on the way up or down the coast! The rooms are comfortable with lovely views of either the valley or the hills beyond hwy 101 (the motel is just off 101, but I wasn’t bothered by highway noise and I slept with a window open). I love the tiles in the bathroom and the bath products are great. Norman, the on-site restaurant served up delicious food and very good Manhattens both times as well. The beds are so comfy that last time I actually emailed the motel after I got home to see what kind of mattresses they use! I echo some of the other reviewers feelings of not wanting to leave but alas I have to get back to my “regular” life. I’m definitely coming back, maybe with friends next time!

My husband and I stayed here over Christmas 2021. We wanted a small town get-away for the holiday. The Deluxe King room we stayed in had a corner fireplace IN the room and a firepit on the PATIO! The way the room is laid out makes it feel bigger than it actually is with a small hallway leading to the patio. The bathroom was stocked with nice quality shampoos and soaps, but also had extras like eye masks, robes, and makeup remover. We arrived to a free glass of Rosé at the pool before eating at Norman, the hotel's restaurant. I could live in this hotel honestly, I loved it so much.

Review
We booked this trip in April for a late June stay with our 3 year old. They changed their pool policy (only 21+ allowed in pool now) between that time and failed to contact us directly (we even called in April to confirm children were allowed and indicated she was coming on the reservation). We arrived and due to the lack of direct communication, received an exception for her to use the pool from the staff. On a 95 degree Monday afternoon the GM Matt came up to the 3 of us in the pool and kicked her out. He asked us to remove her from the pool which caused a crazy scene because she was hot, just got into the pool, and now felt like she did something wrong because this man told her to leave to her face. There was only 1 other couple in the pool and our daughter wasn’t splashing our disturbing the peace. Couples around the pool even offered to take a vote because they thought she was so adorable and it was so hot out. We complained at reception and was told Matt would be reaching out with an apology and potential compensation since we weren’t allowed to use the facilities. It’s been a week - no apology and we were charged the full amount including pool fees. Matt - you should’ve pulled one of her caretakers aside outside of the pool to speak with one us directly. Telling a toddler directly she wasn’t allowed was a poor choice and stained our first trip as a family post-Covid. Staff knew a child was coming, they should’ve called us directly to inform us of the policy change. Will never be coming back.

Positives: Friendly and helpful staff, ambience, linens, HVAC, pool area, views, within two miles of a Michelin one star restaurant, good breakfast and very dog friendly property - dogs are even allowed in the restaurant but cannot be left in the rooms so that makes sense.

Negatives: The queen and classic king rooms are only 195 and 200 square feet, respectively and are too small with no furniture to unpack bags. We ate at the Norman onsite restaurant for dinner and got food with uncooked potatoes and vegetables and overcooked salmon after requesting a medium-rare salmon. We should have refused those two meals. One t he other hand, the yellow fin tuna crisp was outstanding - order it! The dog fee is $50 per dog. It should be only $50 or less for more than one dog.

This place is a dream , tucked on a small hill , the drive is gorgeous (lined with vineyards and palm trees) . The motel is reimagined in a very California authentic vibe . Dreamy beds & a SUPERSTAR 5 star service specifically from CJ who made our 6th stay feel as exciting as our first stay. We are Los Alamos afficionados and know every place in the area we highly recco Norman’s (on property dining) & def. venture out to the main street and have Bob’s delicious breakfast/bread !

I absolutely adored my stay at Skyview in Los Alamos. I have never stayed at a luxury motel before and this one was perfect. I wish I had more than one day there because I love how beautiful the property was, everyone was nice and accommodating, food and wine were excellent, love the room and outdoor patio (mine had peach trees)! I was extremely impressed with everything and the pool area was also a lot of fun. I highly recommend staying at Skyview for anyone doing a coastal road trip!

We stayed here once just pre pandemic and were excited to return. Our expectations were maybe too high.

Would not recommend booking the basic room class — the room gets very little natural light.

Be warned that a coffee (from a diner-style drip carafe) in the restaurant will be billed to your room at $6 a cup.

Cocktails in the restaurant were perfectly good, as was the food.

I would stay elsewhere on my next visit to the area.

Overall the hotel feels like more of a couples retreat, I don't recall children either time I stayed there. I'm sure if you have an infant/todder/young child it would feel fine at the pool. But more importantly, the rooms are small - only 1 bed per room (so if the 3 of you can share a King bed, it will work). I don't believe there are any connected rooms. Our group was very big and nobody had a connected room or 2 beds in any room. The staff is very friendly, give them a call for sure!
