Best ways to save with Walmart discounts

New customer discounts

First-time shoppers are in luck because Walmart has a bunch of discounts for new customers. Check our coupon list for the available new customer coupons that can offer as much as 20% off. Additionally, new Walmart+ members get discounts just for signing up. Past discounts have offered up to $50 off new members' first 3 orders. 

Walmart free shipping

If you're a Walmart+ member, you can get free shipping with no minimum spending requirement. You don't need a Walmart coupon to receive the offer, but you'll need to add your zip code to see if the desired items are available at your local store. If the merchandise is available for next-day delivery, you'll see a confirmation message under the "Add to Cart" button.

Verify your student status

Walmart now offers a discount to college and graduate program students. You can score a Walmart+ subscription for 50% off the regular price. Save big on delivery costs and take advantage of many of the other great membership benefits for half the price.

Verify your military status

Although Walmart donates millions of dollars to help military families, it doesn't offer a Walmart military discount. Besides calling cards to soldiers stationed overseas, Walmart assists military families with childcare and healthcare. And even though there is no specific Walmart offer designed specifically for military personnel, there are dozens of ways to save.

Police, firefighters, medical professionals, and other front-line workers get Walmart's first responders discount. To apply, go to the Walmart Discounts page on the ID.me website. Create an account or use your existing account. Follow the prompts and, once approved, you'll receive a 10% discount code. Generally, the code is valid for 30 days.

Become a rewards member

Sign up to become a Walmart+ member. You can test the program out for free during a complimentary 30-day trial period. If you're satisfied with the program, you pay $8.17 a month or $98 a year. Besides standard Walmart offers, members enjoy:

• Free same-day or next-day delivery on grocery orders over $35

• Prescription discounts

Sign up for the newsletter

Before you can sign up for the Walmart newsletter, you'll need to log into or create an account. Once subscribed, you'll get information and links to the latest Walmart deals. In addition to the newsletter, you can choose what other types of emails you want to receive. Just go to account preferences and tick the boxes to indicate your choices.

How to redeem a Walmart promo code

Once your shopping is complete, click the cart in the upper right corner. Then click 'Continue to Checkout' to enter your Walmart promo code. If you haven't signed in or created an account, you'll have the opportunity to do so here. You may checkout as a guest, but you won't be able to use your Walmart promo code. On the next page, enter your code in the designated box. Then hit 'Place Order' to complete the transaction.

Troubleshooting your promo code

If your Walmart coupon code isn't working, check the expiration date to see if the deadline has passed. Verify that you copied and pasted the entire alphanumeric sequence. Eliminate any spaces before, after, or between the characters. Review the terms and conditions to see if the Walmart offer only applies to certain items or is not valid for certain brands. Check to see if you have to spend a minimum amount to use the coupon.
