WANGS History:

The Western Australian Naval Golf Society, commenced Friday 26 January 1979, venue was held at the HMAS LEEUWIN Gymnasium. The society was then called HMAS Leeuwin Golf Club (HLGC). It was the idea of a group of  sailors, that played golf,  servicing in the Royal Australian Navy in Western Australia area to commence a golf club to assist in selecting the WA Interservice Golf team. By the formulation of such a club it would allow selectors to observed players performance throughout the year.

On January 22 1980, the HMAS STIRLING Golf Club was disbanded and an invitation from The HLGC was presented to the STIRLING members to join the HLGC.  On 19 August 1981, an extraordinary meeting was held, the outcome of this meeting was to thank the out going president Leut Bruce Fraser and welcome in the new President Nick Grundy and Club Captain Dave Wiseman.  In addition the motion was proposed and accepted to rename the HLGC.  The committee agreed to change the name of the club to  the Western Australian Naval Golf Society, (WANGS).  At the same meeting it was discussed to identify a home course. Text Box: CLUBMAN AWARD
Replaced with Presidents and Captains Awards in 2005
This award has evolved over the years and was derived using a points system based on attendance and performance, a winner with two runners up was annually recognised. The award conditions were amended in 2003 to recognise separate Clubmen and Consistency awards.
From 2005 two clubmen are selected annually, one chosen by the President and the other by the Captain, prior to 2005 only one clubman was selected with two runners up. Selection is a subjective process with input requested by the President and Captain as desired.

CONSISTENT AND BEST

The award was introduced to recognize the most Consistent and Best player for the year.  The method for determining the award has been based on the previous Clubman scoring system.  However modifications to the scoring have been implemented to weight scores dependent on the size of the field.  In essence the larger the field the higher the scores awarded and larger quantity of players recognised.  The scoring system is as follows:
