BOMBERS INTO GRAND FINAL

Tuesday 24th August 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming have secured two Grand Final appearances, with wins to it's League and Reserves sides in their 2nd Semi Finals on Saturday.

The League were simply devastating, setting up the win with an 13 goal to 2 first half. Robbie Lester Smith booted 5 goals for the Bombers, whilst Thomas Liew and Fraser MacDougall were dominant through the midfield. Late changes saw Colin Fuller and Nathan Munsie come into the side for the injured Mark Gannaway and Kane Hulme.

The Reserves had their toughest encounter of the season, against a fully focused Wanbro side. After controlling the 1st quarter, the Bombers let the Swans back into the game in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, before being able to pull away in the final term to win by 20-points.

Heartbreak was experience for the colts, who lost their 1st Semi Final by 2-points. After being outplayed in the 1st half, Bullcreek Leeming restricted Thornlie to just 2-points for the 2nd half, however this was enough for Thornlie to hold onto the game. Josh Lamont returned from League duties to be best on ground.

The F Grade came from behind after a slow start, to win their 1st Semi Final by 25-points. This win sets up a massive Preliminary Final against club rivals Fremantle CBC, which should see a mountain of support cheering on the boys with the League & Reserves having a week off.

BOMBERS HIT THE ROAD

Wednesday 18th August 2010

By Matthew Jones

The Bullcreek Leeming Amateur Football Club hits the road this Saturday, with the club playing at three different venues across its four teams in Week 2 of WAAFL Finals action.

The League, coming off a 68-point win over Kingsway last week, head up to the Wanneroo Showgrounds to take on the minor premiers Wanneroo in the C Grade Gold 2nd Semi Final at 2.30pm. With a grand final berth up for grabs, it is sure to be one of the games of the season. The Bombers have not lost to Wanneroo this season, and will be looking to continue that trend on Saturday.

The Reserves will be looking to continue their unbeaten run in 2010, and also will be looking to head straight into the Grand Final when they take on Warnbro at Kingsway Reserve at 12.35pm. Whilst the Bombers have recorded a 24-point and 36-point win over Warnbro in the home & away season, the Swans will no doubt be boosted by the availability of their qualified League players. The Warnbro league side was eliminated from the finals race by Thornlie last week, meaning Warnbro have a squad of 40 qualified players to choose from in their Reserves, 24 of which have had League experience. Coach Dale Sutherland in also blessed with a huge squad to choose from, with in excess of 33 players to fit into his side of 22.

Also playing at Kingsway Reserve is the Colts, in their do-or die 1st Semi Final against Thornlie at 10.45am. The Baby Bombers have not lost to Thornlie this season, after a 7-point win in Round 16 and a draw in Round 7. The Colts played with great spirit and determination last week, and although they still have a few players under injury clouds, will be looking to continue on to the Preliminary Final next week.

The F Grade are also in a must win 1st Semi Final, and take on Rossmoyne at Shelley Reserve at 12.35pm. The ledger is one all during the home and away season, however the boys will be certainly out to avenge their Round 14 defeat of 21-points. With all four sides playing finals football this weekend, it is sure to be the strongest F Grade side of the season that will take on the Rhino's.

It promises to be a great day of football for the club, so get down and support the boys at training on Thursday night and as many of the games that you can get to on Saturday.

Also, please remember get down to the club Thursday night for the AGM. 8.00pm. The club is open for all members to attend.

CREEK CRUSH KINGSWAY

Monday 16th August 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming have sent a strong message to it's rivals in the 2010 Finals Series, inflicting a 68-point defeat upon Kingsway on Saturday.

After a relatively close first quarter, the Bombers controlled the game for the following three quarters, kicking 5 goals in each of those, whilst restricting Kingsway to only 5 more for the match. Chris Boyes was brilliant for the 'creek, kicking 7 goals in the Best on Ground performance.

The Colts and F Grade kept their finals campaigns alive, both winning the respective Elimination Finals. The F Grade set up their win with an 8 goal to 2 first half, whilst an undermanned colts side played with plenty of spirit and passion to come from a goal down at half time to win by 4-points.

FOUR IN FOR THE CREEK

Friday 13th August 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming have made 4 changes to its League side, which will take on Kingsway in the Qualifying Final this Saturday at Beasley Park.

Coach Shane Thompson has included Mark Gannaway, Scott Riley and Dylan Murtha who have all overcome injury, whilst Steven Spencer returns after being unavailable for last week’s game against Ocean Ridge.

The Colts have been able to add 6 names to it’s side in the rematch against Ocean Ridge, however Brayden Kennedy has not been able to recover in time from a groin injury and will miss his first game of the year.

With the Reserves having the first week of finals off, the F Grade have been boosted by the inclusion of Colby Lewis, Chris Huxtable, Reece Putland and Peter Hamilton, who all played Reserves last week. Glen Parise and Andrew Bousfield have also been included which will add some strength to the side.

FINALS BOUND

Wednesday 11th August 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming are finals bound, with all four sides taking part in the 2010 Finals Series.

The Colts and League will play at Beasley Park, with the Colts playing at the later start time of 12.35pm, a perfect curtain raiser to the League game at 2.30pm.

The F Grade will travel down to Morris Buzacott Reserve to take on Thornlie, also at the starting time of 12.35pm. This promises to set up a huge home crowd  to cheer on the League in their match against Kingsway.

Coach Shane Thompson will has plenty of options in his selections, with Scott Riley, Steve Spencer and Mark Gannaway no doubt looking to impress and push for inclusion into the side, after missing last weeks game.

BOMBERS CEMENT DOUBLE CHANCE

Thursday 5th August 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming have secured second spot, and therefore a double chance in the 2010 finals series, after defeating Kingsway by 21-points at Beasley Park on Saturday.

In fact, the Bombers are still with a chance of finishing on top of the C Grade Gold ladder, should they win this week against Ocean Ridge, and Thornlie defeating the current ladder leaders in Wanneroo.

The Bombers have been boosted with the return of Scott Jansen, but have lost the services of Steve Spencer and Scott Riley for this weeks clash.

BOMBERS SMASH ROYALS

Wednesday 21st July 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming have geared up for a big two weeks of football, defeating Kenwick by 87-points last Saturday at Beasley Park.

Joel Robinson added another 5 goals to his season tally, whilst Chris Boyes made up for his only scoreless round of the season last week booting 4 goals.

The Reserves made it 15 in a row, defeating the Royals by 100-points, however the colts for the second week in row went down by 5-points.

Travelling to Millington Reserve, the F Grade put up a terrific performance against the undefeated Scarborough side, to only be defeated by 14-points.

ROBINSON EXTENDS GOALKICKING LEAD

Tuesday 13th July 2010

By Matthew Jones

Joel Robinson has extended his lead in the Peter Freund Medal, kicking 7 goals in the League side on the weekend.

Robinson moves to 49 goals for the season, and is now 11 goals clear of Daniel Padua on 38. Colts player Josh Foster has rocketed up the ladder to be on 34 goals, after kicking 22 goals in the past three weeks.

BOMBERS WIN BY A NOSE

Monday 12th July 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming continue to be the only team to have beaten Wanneroo this season, by getting over the Roo's by 1-point at the Wanneroo Showgrounds on Saturday.

The Bombers, forced to play with 17 players for the end of the 3rd quarter and the start of the final due to a red card send off, rallied together to play some great team football and take the game by the smallest of margins.

Joel Robinson returned to his Full Forward position after having last week off, and was dominant kicking 7 goals in the DVG Mountway Melville Best Player performance.

Earlier in the day, the Colts were defeated by 5-points, whilst the Reserves did enough to continue their undefeated season, defeating Wanneroo by 18-points.

The F Grade suffered their 3rd straight loss, being defeated by Rossmoyne by 21-points. Their task this week does not get any easier, when the travel to Millington Reserve to take on the undefeated Scarborough.

The biggest cheer of the weekend was saved for the 100 Club on Sunday, not for the eventual winner in Alex Roberts, but for the win of League Coach Shane Thompson's horse Em Gee Brown at Kalgoorlie, of which the majority of the club had put on a bet. The winning margin was similar to that of the League - a nose!

SHOW TIME

Friday 9th July 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming travel to the Wanneroo Showgrounds on Saturday for a Top of the Table clash with Wanneroo.

Being the only team to have beaten Wanneroo this season, the Bombers will be looking to repeat the dose on Saturday and hold onto the 2nd spot on the ladder which they obtained last week.

Whilst Bullcreek Leeming will be without the services of State Under 23's Representative Fraser MacDougall, the side has been bolstered with the return of Adam Tissott, Joel Olsen, Corbin Nesa, and Joel Robinson.

FOSTER'S DOZEN

Sunday 4th July

By Matthew Jones

Young Bomber Josh Foster is making a mid season charge at the Leading Goalkicker Award, kicking 12 goals in the Colts 159-point thrashing of Cockburn Lakes yesterday.

The Colts had to re-work their game plan before the start of play, with Cockburn Lakes only able to field 14 players, and the Bombers having to have the same amount of players on the ground under the WAAFL by laws.

The boys started great, booting 6 goals to 1 in the opening quarter. Adding another 9 unanswered goals in the 2nd quarter, the Bombers took a commanding 87-point lead into half time.

After a comparatively quieter third quarter where the Bombers only added 3 goals, they dominated the final quarter, booting 9 goals and keeping the Warriors scoreless, to run out convincing 159 point winners.

The Reserves continued their undefeated season, defeating Cockburn Lakes by 43-points.

The League move into 2nd position on the C Grade Ladder, with a convincing 50-point victory of the Warriors. Fraser MacDougall starred for the Bombers, taking out the DVG Mountway Melville Best Player Award, whilst Colin Fuller kicked 4 goals.

This now sets up a top of the table clash next week, when the Bombers travel to the Showgrounds to take on Wanneroo.

Over at Thornlie Oval, the F Grade suffered it's second loss in a row, narrowing losing by 5 points.

FORCED CHANGES

Thursday 1st July 2010

By Matthew Jones

League Coach Shane Thompson has been forced to make a number of changes to his side this week, due to the unavailability of some players, and injuries to others.

8 different players will line up for the League this week, with a major blow being the injury to Brad Holt. Holt may be missing for up to 3 weeks, with both a hand and a knee injury. However, it has been offset by the return of League Captain Gareth Ambridge for the clash on Saturday against Cockburn Lakes.

The Club is hoping for a big crowd down to Beasley Park on Saturday, and is calling on all Past Players to come down and watch the clash with Cockburn Lakes. The Bombers and Warriors had many a clash in the 80's and 90's, and this week's game is sure to be another great game.

BOMBERS MOVE TO 3RD

Tuesday 29th June 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming defeated Warnbro in all three grades on Saturday, and whilst the F Grade had an unscheduled loss against Koongamia, all sides are in the Top 5 of their grades.

The Colts started the day in devastating fashion, inflicting a 71-point defeat to the Swans. Josh Foster continued his great form in front of the goals over the past two weeks, booting 8 goals for the Bombers.

Warnbro got the jump on the Reserves in the first quarter, with a quick 4 goals. However, the Bombers were able to rally and control the game, restricting Warnbro to just two further goals for the match, and run out 36-point winners, to remain undefeated on top of the Reserves ladder.

The League were out to reverse the Round 3 loss inflicted on them at Warnbro, and were able to do so in excellent fashion. With Brad Holt again turning in a DVG Mountway Melville Best on Ground performance, the Bombers defeated the Swans by 32 points. Chris Boyes continued his steady climb towards in Leading Goalkicking Award, adding another 4 goals to his season tally.

The Bombers now move into 3rd position on the League Ladder, and remain two games off ladder leaders Wanneroo.

The F Grade fell victim to the curse of the bus trip that the club is experiencing in 2010, being defeated by the improving Koongamia at Koongamia Oval.  Tim Dawson and Rohan Hallam both kicked three goals in the loss.

LAMONT GRADUATES FROM COLTS TO LEAGUE

Friday 25th June 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming will see another colt make his League debut in 2010, with Josh Lamont being selected after 2 weeks of great form in the Reserves.

Bullcreek Leeming will be looking to avenge their Round 3 loss to Warnbro this Saturday, when they host the Swans at Beasley Park.

Lamont joins Trent Ovens and Chris Meecham into the side, replacing the injured Alex Roberts and Matthew Oliveiri, with Tyson Sujdovic set to add some added class to the Reserves.

Sujdovic will bring some added firepower to the Reserves forward line, which also will see Heath Oliphant return from 2 weeks away. Clinton Ford has also been in scintillating form, kicking 11 goals in the past 3 weeks.

GOAL KICKING RACE HEATING UP

Wednesday 23rd June 2010

By Matthew Jones

The race for the Peter Freund Leading Goal Kicking Medal for 2010 is heating up, with only 3 goals separating first and second after 11 rounds.

Joel Robinson heads the leaderboard on 39 goals, courtesy of some big hauls between Rounds 5 and 9. Robinson averaged 6.2 goals per game during this time, and after 11 games is averaging 3.5 goals per game.

Hot on his heels is Daniel Padua, on 36 goals. Padua, who missed Rounds 6 and 7 with a hamstring injury sustained against Kenwick in Round 6, has kicked two bags of 10 goals so far this season, and is averaging 4 goals a game from his games played in Reserves and F Grade in 2010.

In third place is the only player in the club to have kicked a goal in every game so far this season in Chris Boyes. Averaging 2.4 goals a game, Boyes booted 6 goals in the 7 point loss to Thornlie in Round 7.

LUCKY 13

Saturday 19th June 2010

By Matthew Jones

13 individual goalkickers have contributed to Bullcreek Leeming scoring an impressive 105-point victory over Quinns District at Ridgewood Park today.

Whilst young guns Steven McGuire and Fraser MacDougall kicked 5 and 3 goals respectively, League Coach Shane Thompson had no hesitation in presenting Matthew Olivieri the DVG Mountway Melville Best Player Award for his excellent efforts during the game.

The Reserves continue to remain undefeated, and whilst an 89-point victory looks good in the results section, coach Dale Sutherland believes there is still further improvement when a four quarter effort is produced.

The Colts after a great start, were unfortunately not able to finish off the game, and suffered a narrow 2-point loss to the Bulls.

At Beasley Park, the F Grade rallied to record a 24-point win over local rivals Willetton. Daniel Padua continues to impress in the forward line, adding another 6 goals to his 2010 tally.

UNCHARTED DISTRICT

Friday 18th June 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming will venture to Ridgewood Park for the first time in a number of years, when they do battle with Quinns District in Round 11 WAAFL action on Saturday.

The Bombers are coming off a convincing win against the last placed Manning, and will be looking to consolidate that effort with a good win on the road. Quinns District, who were defeated by Warnbro by 35-points last Saturday, will no doubt be looking to add another win to their season tally, with their 3 wins all being at home so far this season.

The Bombers welcome back from WAAFL State duties Todd Dale and Fraser MacDougall, whilst Shane Thompson has also included Kane Hulme for his League debut for the Bombers.

The Reserves are looking for win number 11 straight for 2010, and welcome back to the side Paul Petkovich who has been injured for the past 3 weeks.

A win at Ridgewood Park is vital for the Colts to remain in touch with the Top 3, and after a week off last week due to a bye, the Baby Bombers will look to get the day off to a winning start for the club.

At Beasley Park, the F Grade do battle with their South Street rivals Willetton. The Bombers defeated the Blues by 10-points in the Round 2 clash, and a strong line-up should set up a win for the F Grade at home.

RIPPER FOR HOLT

Monday 14th June 2010

By Matthew Jones

Brad Holt has played a starring role in his 150th game for Bullcreek Leeming, earning himself the DVG Mountway Melville Best Player Award in the 127-thrashing of Manning on Saturday.

After a relatively close first quarter, the Bombers were simply too good for the Rippers in the final three quarters, outscoring Manning 21 goals to 3, to win 25.14 (164) to 5.7 (37).

With Fraser MacDougall and Todd Dale rested due to State duties on Sunday, the Bombers were able to see Chris Meecham and Matthew Barrett make their first League appearance for the year, making it even more competitive to earn a League spot in 2010.

The day did not start well for Manning, who were kept scoreless by the undefeated Reserves. Clinton Ford booted 6 majors for the Bombers in the 34.18 (222) to 0.0 (0) demolition, with colt Josh Lamont putting in a best on ground performance.

The F Grade travelled to Gil Fraser Oval to take on North Fremantle in a twilight match, and ran out winners 10.9 (69) to 5.3.(33).

STATE BOMBERS

Saturday 12th June 2010

By Matthew Jones

The WAAFL State sides play their final games on Sunday, and Bullcreek Leeming will have two representatives across the two sides.

Todd Dale will captain the WAAFL State Colts side, who take on the WAFL State 16's. Fraser MacDougall will line up for the WAAFL State Under 23's side, who are taking on South Australia, and WA are one win away from claiming the trianniel AAFC Championship. Steven McGuire was unlucky not to picked in the final side, after being a part of the squad and earlier games.

The games are being played at Fremantle Oval, with the Colts at 12.05pm, and the Under 23's at 2.25pm. Let's get a crowd down to cheer on our Bomber boys!

NO HOLTING BRAD

Friday 11th June 2010

By Matthew Jones

2009 Brad Lane Medallist Brad Holt will play his 150th game for the club this weekend.

One of Bullcreek Leeming’s true champions in recent years, Holt becomes the next player to achieve a major playing milestone this year when Bullcreek Leeming host Manning at Beasley Park on Saturday.

Holt’s 150th game for the Bombers comes after 143 games for the Bullcreek Leeming Junior Football Club. He again has been in great form for the Bombers in 2010, and will be a key player in the game against Manning.

CREEK BEAT OCEAN

Monday 7th June 2010

By Chris Boyes

A final quarter onslaught from the Bombers helped Scott Riley celebrate his 100th game with a win as Bullcreek Leeming defeated Ocean Ridge 18.12 (120) to 8.1 (49).

A dominant display at full forward from Joel Robinson saw him kick 9 goals in a best on ground performance as the League side finish the first half of the season with a 6-3 win/loss record in 4th place.

The Reserves side continued their unbeaten run to the year, recording their 9th consecutive win with a 39 point win.

Clinton Ford was a late inclusion to the team and the terrific clubman brought up his 100th game milestone in style with a goal in the 12.8 (80) to 6.5 (41) win.

A wayward Colts team easily accounted for their opponents with inaccurate kicking costing the team a chance of a greater percentage boost.

Foster and Benson each kicked 3 goals up forward as the young Bombers ran out 43 point winners 11.22 (88) to 7.3 (45).

Finally, the F Grade team was led to victory by 46 points, admirably by Tim Dawson. Taking to the field after a family grievance, Dawson showed tremendous character and skill to finish with 4 goals as the team defeated Booragoon-Brentwood 10.12 (72) to 4.2 (26).

RILEY & FORD RACK UP 100

Friday 4th June 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming will celebrate another 2 milestones this week, with Scott Riley and Clinton Ford both playing the 100th game for the Bombers on Saturday

Scott Riley will be looking for another DVG Mountway Melville Best Player performance when the League looks to reverse the losses of the past two weeks against Ocean Ridge. The Bombers have slipped to 4th on the C Grade Gold ladder, and a win is vital to stay in contention of the Top 3 at the halfway mark of the season.

The job will be made tougher with the loss to injury of Ambridge and Munsie, however Liew returns to the side from work commitments, and Jansen returns from injury. Shane Thompson has also bought into the side Meecham and Crocker, who have been in great for in the Reserves.

Ford will line up at Full Forward in the F Grade, as they look to continue their form of last week when they travel down to Brentwood Booragoon. With another 11 changes to the side from last week, it is again a new look side that will take to the field. Michael Trappitt makes his debut for the club, whilst colt Elie Griege will play his first senior game for the Bombers.

MILESTONE VICTORY

Sunday 30th May 2010

By Matthew Jones

The Bullcreek Leeming F Grade gave club legend Pri Quackenbush 250 reasons to smile yesterday, when they defeated Bayswater by 84 points in his 250th game.

Quackenbush was moved from his customary Full Back position to Full Forward after half time, and booted 2 goals. Daniel Padua returned from injury to kick 10 goals, and looks to have regained the lead in the club goalkicking tally.

It was a disappointing day at Kingsway, with only the Reserves able to come away with the four points.

QUACKENBUSH SET FOR 250

Friday 28th May 2010

By Matthew Jones

Club stalwart Pri Quackenbush will join an illustrious few at the Bullcreek Leeming Amateur Football Club on Saturday, when he pulls on the Bombers jumper for the 250th time.

Quackenbush has enjoyed a fruitful career so far at Bullcreek Leeming, having been involved in 5 grand final appearances, with Premiership success in 1996 with the Colts and 2005 with the League. "More recently the 3 wins in the 3rd's this year where we've come from behind in the last quarter to win have been very satisfying as well" said Quackenbush.

Quackenbush has had a number of coaches during his 14 years at the club, and rates some advice from former coach Andrew "Flapper" Glendinning as something that stands out. "Flapper always said don't worry about how quickly you can do something or how many times you can do something, just make sure each time you do it you do it properly" Quackenbush reflected during the week.

Prior to his Amateur career, Pri had played his entire junior career at the Bullcreek Leeming Junior Football Club, kicking off in 1984, and one player that has been with him that whole time is close mate fellow 96 and 05 Premiership Player Paul Petkovich. "I also remember Chris Boyes' first senior year in 2005 was always memorable, not only for his red mohawk, but also some of the amazing things he'd pull off each week" said Quackenbush. "And Gareth Ambridge for all the injuries he's had and just keeps bouncing back, just incredible!" he added.

Whilst Quackenbush's form and talent would see him an automatic selection in the Reserves this week, he will run out for the F Grade alongside close mates Kane Carlson and Peter Hamilton to celebrate his milestone achievement, when they take on Bayswater at Beasley Park from 2.30pm.

The League side travel to Kingsway this week, and the form of David Carruthers has been rewarded with the Reserves captain being promoted to the League side. Steve Spencer, Todd Dale and Colin Martelli have also been included in the side.

Monday 24th May 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming has suffered its second loss of the season, being overrun by Thornlie in the second half to lose by 7 points on Saturday.

The Bombers lost captain Gareth Ambridge early to injury,

The F Grade travelled to Dick Lawrence Oval at the earlier start time of 1.30pm to take on Fremantle CBC, however were comprehensively beaten 14.10 (94) to 3.6 (24). The day was soured with a knee injury to the Bombers best player for the day Paul Mason late in the game.

AIDO JUST ACE

Thursday 20th May 2010

By Matthew Jones

The milestones keep rolling at Bullcreek Leeming in 2010, with Adrian Lacquiere set to run out in his 150th game this weekend against Thornlie.

"Aido", often seen fronting his band Just Ace down at the club, started his career at the Bombers back in 2000, with some of the club great names in the side including Dale Sutherland, Steve Evans, David King and Craig Pitt. "Sutho gave some of the best advice when he coached as well" said Lacquiere. "Aim for the trees-which is fine when we are playing at home, but not all the grounds have trees behind the goals!"

Lacquiere remembers the day he made his League debut. "My first league game was against High Wycombe in 2004. I kicked 2 goals and then dislocated my shoulder!" he said.

Lacquiere has played some football with some great mates over his 149 games so far. "Macca, Glenbo, Ambo and Ray Dog - these guys were actually a bad influence on my footy...Friday night drinks and then playing hangover footy the next day" he said. "I still managed to play some decent footy though but at the end of the day playing footy with your mates is what its all about" he added.

"Peko and Bushy are just awesome blokes to play footy with over the years and are real leaders of the club. I've always looked up to these guys" said Lacquiere.

Lacquiere has yet to taste Premiership success, but is desperate to get one. "Sutho better keep me in the ressies side for the rest of the year!" he said, in reference to the great start to the season the Reserves have had.

ONE OF THE BOYES

Thursday 20th May 2010

By Matthew Jones

Classy Bullcreek Leeming forward Chris Boyes notches up a major milestone in his playing career this Saturday, as he takes to the field in his 100th game for the Bombers.

Boyes made his at Bullcreek Leeming in 2004, in a colts match against Bassendean. "East Fremantle had a bye, so I played for Bullcreek Leeming" Boyes said. "I did my hamstring before half time and missed the next 6 weeks!"

Boyes quickly graduated to League football in 2005, and had a fantastic year enjoying an Undefeated Premiership season, as well as being the Best on Ground in the Grand Final against Coolbinia West Perth.

Boyes says a couple of games stick out of his 99 so far, including a win against Willetton in 2006, which was Paul Petkovich's 200th game. "Peko is one of the best Centre Half Forwards at the club" he said. "He will always crash a pack and create a crumb or give off a handball".

Others to have influenced Boyes' career thus far include Tyson Sujdovic and Tim Bycroft. "Bycroft is one of the best people to analyse the game with the next day" he said. "And nothing beats having a win and then checking your dream team score with Sudz in the rooms after the game!" he added.

His favourite bit of coaching advice has been "Saturdee arvo, doing what ya love", and we look forward to seeing Boyesy doing that this Saturday against Thornlie.

ROYAL PERFORMANCE BY BOMBERS

Saturday 15th May 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming has had a royal day at Mills Park on Saturday, with comprehensive wins in all three grades over Kenwick.

Some late changes saw Scott Riley and Sheldon Carrick elevated into the League side, with Steve McGuire and Adam Costello withdrawing in the morning.

Joel Robinson was superb up forward for the Bombers, booting 8 goals to take the lead in the Peter Freund Leading Goalkicker race for 2010. Mountway Melville Best on ground for Bullcreek Leeming was fellow young gun Todd Dale, proving his selection in the WAAFL State Under 19's side very astute. After a fairly even first quarter, the Bombers took control of the game and inflicted a 98-point defeat to the Royals, 24.10 (154) to 8.8 (56). The percentage boosting win sees the Bombers move to second place on the ladder.

The League sing the club song

The Reserves remain undefeated on top of the C Grade Gold Reserves Ladder, with a 103-point victory over Kenwick. With 3 colts players making their Reserves debut, it was one of these Colts Tom O'Sullivan who lead the way for the Reserves with a Autospark Group best on ground performance. Ray Sullivan continued his good form in his return to the Creek with 4 goals, with David Carruthers and club legend Paul Petkovich also in the best players.

The Colts started the day of on a winning note for the Bombers, with a 57-point victory in the early game. Brayden Kennedy booted 3 goals, whilst James Roberts took the Dalkeith Travel Best Player award.

In the Top of the Table F Grade clash, a gallant and undermanned Bullcreek Leeming went down by only 17-points to the ladder leaders Scarborough. In his last game for the club in immediate future, Peter Hughes gave the club something to remember with a Corfield Tavern Best on Ground performance.

League Coach Shane Thompson rubbed further salt into the Royals wounds, by winning the post match Meat Raffle in the Kenwick clubrooms.

ROUND 6 SELECTIONS

Thursday 13th May 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming will look to consolidate their positions in the Top 5 in all four grades this weekend, when they take on Kenwick and Scarborough in their Round 6 matches.

Shane Thompson has made three changes to the side that defeated Wanneroo last weekend, with Munsie and Liew unavailable due to work commitments, and Bryon Baly returning to the colts. Into the side comes Trent Ovens and Robbie Lester Smith, as well as ruckman Adam Costello.

Dale Sutherland's Reserves sit undefeated at the top of the Reserves ladder, however he is keeping the pressure on his charges by bringing in some colts for  their first taste of senior football. Tom O'Sullivan and Josh Lamont will make their debuts, whilst Dylan Murtha and Bryn Hansen will join the Patterson brothers as inclusions.

A healthy squad of colts means coach Gary Carruthers is able to rotate some players in his side, with 7 changes being made to take on the winless Kenwick.

At Beasley Park, all focus will be on the Top of the Table F Grade clash between the Bombers and fellow undefeated side Scarborough. Both sides have had great starts to the season, and the Bombers have made 9 changes to take on the high scoring Hawks.

ROOS CULLED

Sunday 9th May 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming have confirmed themselves as a serious finals contender with an impressive 28-point victory over the previously undefeated Wanneroo at Beasley Park on Saturday.

In front of a blockbuster Ladies Day crowd, the Bombers at times put together some of their best football of the season so far, defeating the Roos 16.10 (106) to 11.8 (74).

"We set ourselves a new benchmark today" coach Shane Thompson said in his post match address to the players, referring to the manner in which the Bombers were able to fight back from a three goal deficit during the game, culminating in a five goal to one final quarter.

Joel Robinson booted five goals up forward, and WAAFL State Under 19's representative Fraser MacDougall was dominant in his role in the Ruck and Centre Half Forward, taking out the DVG Mountway Melville Best Player Award.

It was a triple header of wins at Beasley Park on Saturday for the Bombers, with the Colts overcoming a slow start against the Roos to storm home to an 18-point victory, 8.10 (58) to 6.4 (40), and the Reserves became the only undefeated side in their competition, defeating Wanneroo by 30-points in a hard fought match 8.16 (64) to 5.4 (34).

The F Grade travelled over to Shelley Oval to take on Rossmoyne, and in a tight tussle came away with the 4 points in a low scoring affair. The Bombers won the match 5.7 (37) to 3.9 (27). They will now focus on a top of the table clash with the in form Scarborough at Beasley Park next week, with only one of those teams to remain undefeated after the game.

By Matthew Jones

The Bullcreek Leeming Amateur Football Club would like to congratulate three players on being selected in the 2010 WAAFL State Sides.

Steven McGuire has been selected in the WAAFL State Under 23 side, who took on the WA Country Football League Under 23's last night at Gill Fraser Oval. The WAAFL squad is gearing up to play South Australia on July 13 at Fremantle Oval in game five of the Australian Amateur Football Council Championship series.

Fraser MacDougall and Todd Dale have also been selected in the State Under 19's, who played the earlier match last night.

WAUGH IN WARNBRO

Friday 23rd April 2010

By Matthew Jones

2009 F Grade Premiership Player Ian Waugh has been rewarded for good form and a dedicated pre season when he lines up the League side to take on Warnbro at the Warnbro Sporting Complex on Saturday.

With Gareth Ambridge and Matthew Jancey still sidelined with injury, Waugh will bring some hardness into the side to compliment the likes of Liew and Ellis. Waugh will be joined by fellow premiership player in Scott Riley, with Greg Turner, Rory Pearce, Jason McGlynn and Dustin Edwards also being added to the side.

TWO TO DEBUT

Friday 17th April 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming will have another two debutants to it's League side when it taken on Quinns District at Beasley Park on Saturday.

Making their League debuts will be Mark Hocek and Shane Sullivan, who along with Colin Fuller will replace the injured trio of Gareth Ambridge, Matthew Jancey and Scott Jansen. Whilst the injuries to Ambridge and Jancey are only minor and should only see them sidelined for a week, Jansen's shoulder will see him out of the side for a number of weeks.

WILEY NIGHT AT THE CREEK

Tuesday 13th April 2010

By Matthew Jones

On a night that reminded us all that football is a winter sport, Bullcreek Leeming was graced with the presence of WA Football legend Rob Wiley tonight.

After putting the Bombers through their paces, Rob then took the opportunity to talk to some of the Junior Football Club coaches, along with our own, on some of his tips and tricks form his vast football experience.

The night was enjoyed by all and we thank Rob for giving up his time.

RIPPING START

Monday 12th April 2010

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming have commenced their 2010 season in fine style, with comprehensive wins in all three games on Saturday.

Whilst the Colts had a first round bye, there was no sleep in start for the Reserves, who demolished Manning 22.22 (154) to 1.1 (7). Captain David Carruthers led the way booting 4 goals, who was one of ten individual goalkickers for the match.

The League started 2010 also in fine style, with a comprehensive 79 point victory. After a relatively even first quarter on the scoreboard, the Bombers dominated the game from then on, booting 16 goals to 4, with 2005 Peter Freund Medallist Dayle Malone kicking 5. Matthew Jancey and Brad Holt had great games, with the final scoreline reading 20.8 (128) to 7.7 (49)

The F Grade commenced their Premiership defence also with a win, defeated North Fremantle in a tightly contested match. After being 21 points down at half time, the Bombers re-grouped and held the Magpies to just 3 second half goals, whilst adding 9 of their own, to run out winners 12.13 (85) to 12.6 (66). Glen Parise booted 5 goals, whilst Kane Carlson, Peter Hamilton and Ian Waugh were instrumental through the midfield.

ROB WILEY TRAINING SESSION

Friday 9th April 2010

By Matthew Jones

The Bullcreek Leeming Amateur Football Club will enjoying the coaching prowess of a WA football legend next week, with Rob Wiley takes training on Tuesday 13th April.

A key member of the Perth Demons' 1976 and 1977 premiership teams, Wiley won fairest and best awards in each of his first five seasons with the club.  In 1979 he moved to Victoria where he joined Richmond, and after an injury interrupted debut season he emerged as one of the finest rovers in the VFL. Wiley played 95 games for the Tigers and was an important contributor to the club's 1980 grand final win over Collingwood.

Wiley represented both WA and Victoria at state level.

In 1984, he returned home to Perth, and promptly picked up where he had left off by claiming fairest and best awards in 1984-85-86 to establish a new club record of eight wins in all, one more than both Barry Cable and Merv McIntosh managed.  The 1986 season saw him selected as an All Australian after helping Western Australia to the national title.  When West Coast arrived on the scene the following year they had little hesitation in procuring the thirty-two year old to add some much needed experience to their youthful squad.  Wiley did not let the Eagles down, adding 18 creditable VFL games to his tally before electing to see out the remainder of his career with Perth.

After one last season with the Demons - a season which, uniquely, did not produce a fairest and best award - Robert Wiley decided to hang up his boots.  It is doubtful if West Australian football has seen his like since.

Rob Wiley was senior coach at Perth in 1988 and 1989, and was a long term Assistant Coach of the West Coast Eagles. He can regularly be heard broadcasting football on 6PR.

By Matthew Jones

Bullcreek Leeming will be looking to start of their 2010 season with a bang, after three strong sides were named last night for their clash this weekend against Manning Rippers.

With a plethora of numbers to choose from, as well as the Colts having a first round bye, the Bombers head into Round 1 with pre-season wins under their belts against 2010 B Grade teams Willetton and Gosnells.

Leading the side in 2010 will be Gareth Ambridge, who takes over the captaincy from club stalwart Paul Petkovich. Ambridge was honoured by his appointment, and admitted he has "big shoes to fill" in taking over from Petkovich.

The F Grade begin their premiership defence at home on Saturday, when they take on North Fremantle.

North Fremantle are one of the powerhouse clubs in the Western Australian Amateur Football League, and it promises to be a great match with a strong side named by coach Dan Di Stasio.

Wednesday 3rd February 2010

 By Chris Boyes

The 2010 campaign at Bullcreek Leeming is in full swing with the Pre-Season calendar entering the month of February.

The Monday, Wednesday, Friday regime has seen those in attendance strive for peak fitness levels which Coach Shane Thompson identifies as a key attribute to success in C Grade this year.

Most nights consist of running distances of approximately 3km, followed by a skills session, whilst Wednesday’s have seen the playing group venture across the road to the Melville Glades Golf Course, pounding the picturesque fairways and dodging stray golf balls.

Tearing up the track, youngsters Brad Ellis and Mark Hocek are keen to make the transition from Colts football to League, with Thompson eager to promote those willing to put in the effort and work hard months out from the competition proper.

Fridays in Feb will see the bar open and the BBQ sizzling with the newly concocted Members Raffle introduced to reward those who have paid their fees early.

Tuesday, Thursday training is expected to commence in March with scratch matches set to be arranged against possible opponents in Gosnells and Willetton.

The competition kicks off in April after Easter with the Bombers set to for battle in C Gold division against the following teams: Cockburn Lakes, Kenwick, Kingsway, Manning, Ocean Ridge, Quinns District, Thornlie, Wanneroo and Warnbro.

Once the fixtures are released the Social Committee will be able to finalise their Social Calendar with the 2010 season shaping up nicely both on and off the field so early into the year.
