• awareness of ethical practices and issues or legislation related to health and safety, copyright and intellectual property.
Digital Data and Information
The Nature, Forms and Transfer of Digital Data
• technologies to organise, process and store data
• forms, standards and ways of transfer or distribution of data and how this is influenced by the nature and type of data, the intended audience and factors or constraints e.g. size, time, cost, resources, security, locality, access and availability
• major skills, techniques and processes to collect, evaluate and store data from a range of sources and interrogate the accuracy, reliability and validity of these sources. |
Task 1—Investigate Restaurant Management Systems
Investigation Task
Restaurants are becoming far more technology savvy. Using a WiFi network within the building space allows for ordering to be conducted on PDA’s instantly communicating with the kitchen, the bar, the manager’s accounts and stock ordering system and the front of house for billing.
Investigate the types of hardware and software required to run a system that would be suitable for a restaurant. |

Hardware and Software
Computer Hardware Components and Functions
• capabilities and limitations of the common types of components used in multimedia systems
• major factors affecting the functioning of ICT equipment within a networked environment
• operation of peripheral devices (e.g. input, output and storage) within industry. |
|
|
| 6 |
Design and Acquisition of Hardware and Software
• the design features, functions and technical capabilities of the software and how the software is configured with the hardware to form a useful system
• constraints and compromises required in the acquisition and installation of hardware. |

Digital Data and Information
Creative Application of Information Design Principles
• application of information design principles
• development of strategies for applying technologies and consideration of purpose, meaning, audience and client specifications
• characteristics of information produced for purposes
• independent use of standards and conventions to create multi-tiered solutions
• techniques and terminology for representing the design of solutions and output for those purposes
• common formats and conventions
• criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of a solution. |
Task 2 – Restaurant Menu Interface
Production Task
A popular and forward thinking local restaurant has decided to a table based ordering system.
They need a customised customer interface that reflects their restaurant culture, the food they serve and their cliental.
You are required to prepare a design proposal for the restaurant manager |
