Treasurer |
|

Jon Caulfield |
Jon
is one of the Club's favourite sons. In addition to being the Honorary
Treasurer he is the 1st Grade Captain and often takes the role of
fines master.
Jon is an excellent player, among our best as well as being a gentlemen
(on occasion) and being a fine example to the younger members of
the Club. He is a robust 2nd rower/No.8 and his high level of fitness
and skill leading from the front is a big part of our A Grade team's
success.
Jon has been with the Club for 10 out of the last 13 years. Several
years ago he did a short stint at Nedlands and in his last year
there played 8 games in their Premier team, at the time Neddies
had the two State 2nd Rowers ahead of Jon.
Jon
has won the Ball twice, this is a marvellous accomplishment and
one that has only ever been done once before by "Dutchy" Vanderpol
in the mid 90's. |
| Vice
President (Seniors) |
|

Richard John |
Richard
has been with the Club for the last 4 years and has been an instrumental
part of our A Grade team's success.
He
is a talented fly half or fullback and has time and again proven
his worth with accurate kicking, steadfast defence and still quite
a bit of spring in those weary legs. |
| Vice
President (Juniors) |
|

Teri Lamatoa |
Teri
has won the Ball and in his day was a magnificent stepper and a
ferocious defender at outside centre.
He has four magnificent sons, all whom play for the Lions and all
whom have that wonderful Pacific Islander blood of their Father's
that allow them to tie the opposition up in knots when these lads
are in attack. Teri has been active with the Club for 8 years out
of the last 11 and he is the ideal man for the hardest job in the
Club.
Teri is a real character and a man whom has earned his place in
the Club on the paddock, he is supported by an excellent management
team lead by Rosemary Napier our Immediate Past Vice President (Juniors)
whom has now taken the role as Junior Secretary.

Nick
|
Nick
is a Life Member of the Club and has given over 11 years service to
the club as a player, 1st Grade Captain, 1st Grade Coach and Club
Coach.
Having played International Rugby as fullback in the 80's for England
Nick immigrated to Perth. After a brief period with a larger
Perth club Nick found his way to Leeming where he enjoys the camaraderie
of an old fashioned Rugby Club. Nick
has a big job as the 1st Grade Coach and in his capacity as Club
Coach he is a member of both the Junior Rugby Sub-Committee and
the Senior Rugby Sub-Committee.
We
are blessed at having a coach of Nicks calibre and his continued
efforts have been instrumental in achieving our success thus far.
Nick has two sons that play in the U/15s. |

Grade Coach |
|

Allen Ripohau |
Allen
Ripohau was a Club member in the mid 90s and a fearsome hooker.
He
would hook with both feet and even has been known to use his chin
on occasion. Allen is a gifted player with staunch defence and a
great eye for attack.
Many
years of putting his body on the line has taken its toll and Allen
returns to the club this year as A Grade Coach. He is a fair and
forthright coach with a direct and effective manner.
Allen's
robust approach to Rugby ensures that the "grafter" is always rewarded
over the "show pony". |

Mike
Penhaligon
|
Mike
played as a Senior Grade flanker at the age of sixteen for Truro in
Cornwall, before a long career which has finished several times in
his late 40's.
He was a member of the championship winning 2nd grade side and also
one of the squad which won the Club Championship in that year (not
bad for an old fella!!).
He played First Grade for ARKS, WA and was President of that club
for seven years as well as coaching the Second and Third Grades.
In
the UK Mike played for Otley in Yorkshire, Crewe and Nantwich in
Cheshire and Falmouth in Cornwall. Mike put the boots back
on and played for the Southern Lions until he was 48 years old and
then retired until half a game in 2002 where he scored two tries
(and won the trifecta in the pub on the way home) to celebrate his
50th birthday.
Touring
players should contact Mike and check out our Links to sites about
the local area (on our Contacts Page). |

Bob Boyne |
Bob
played over 200 seasons of Rugby and scored over 4000 tries (that's
what he tells us later in the evening) starting at High School in
Sydney at the age of 13 and finishing at 24 on the Wing for Bank of
NSW 1st Grade in the 2nd Division of the Sydney competition. He has
a son James (with a magnificent pass & hands) in our Colts side
and a son Mitch who represented WA Under 14's & 15's in 2001 &
2002 respectively. Bob is a signage consultant specialising
in major corporate re-imaging and is the senior representative of
Claude Neon Australia Pty Limited in Western Australia.
His
commitment to Rugby in Western Australia today is to foster and
promote the sheer enjoyment of the game (on & off the field)
as Juniors move to Colts then to Seniors and beyond. Bob is
a member of the Junior Rugby Sub-Committee. |

Wayne
Balding |
Wayne
started playing Rugby at the impressionable age of 23 as an Aussie
rules convert. He played 11 seasons of Senior Grade Rugby
for the Western Suburbs Rugby Union Club, the last two seasons as
coach/player after completing his Level II Coaching accreditation
in 1982. With his body slipping and the mind still playing Rugby
he turned his attentions to his two sons. Wayne and Harley are now
11 and 9 year veterans at the mighty Southern Lions Club
at the ripe old ages of 16 and 13.
2002
was Wayne's 7th season at Southern Lions coaching Juniors and
was a year that capped all of his ideals of the game of Rugby
with our young chargers successfully returning to the Grand Final
arena, due largely to their Club, their team, their commitment
and their sprit. Wayne is a true convert, Rugby has given
him nothing but good times on or off the field, win or lose. This
is the Lion's pride we hold with high regard. |

Kingsley Bailey |
Kingsley
is a founding member of the Club and is our link to the past. The
Fremantle Rugby Union Football Club was formed in the early 1900's
and wore the Red, White and Blue.
In
the 1940's the Club changed to Rugby League and become the Fremantle
Rugby League Club as it remains today. Kingsley was a member of
the Fremantle club and was keen on seeing a continuation of the
Fremantle Rugby Union Football Club.
In
1987 with Foundation Members Bob Boyne, John O'Hara, The Burchetts
and others the Fremantle-Leeming Rugby Union Football Club was formed.
Unfortunately at the insistence of our neighbouring club Palmyra
we were forced to drop the Fremantle part of the name in the mid-90s
and hence lost our association with the past was lost in the name.
Kingsley
is our chief raffle ticket man and as a committee member he supervises
fund rasing activities within the club. |
