Annie works predominantly
in appliqué, which is richly embellished
with free-machine embroidery. She produces a variety of small craft
gift pieces, which are sold throughout Australia. Colours are rich,
as
are the combinations of fabric used, such as silk, satin, organza
and
metallics. Over recent years, she has been producing a variety of
larger, art pieces, many of which have been sold at exhibition.
In these larger works she extends her bold use of colour in predominantly
abstract compositions. Hand stitching, beading and the use of water-soluble
and heat techniques are also creeping into many of her pieces and
workshops.
She has been teaching for 3 years and is continuing to add to her
range of creative workshops.
Annie is one of the co-founders of Catalyst Textile Workshops in
Perh WA.
She was born in the UK and has been living in Australia since 1994.
Stitching has been a part of her life since learning crochet and
hand
embroidery from both Grandmothers and her Mother as a child. In
1993 she visited a UK
Embroiderer's Guild exhibition "Out of the Frame" during
which she
was blown away by the the sheer originality of new creative techniques
and imaginative design ideas. A related day of workshops fueled
her passion and the fire is still burning.
