GETTING REAL

Getting a quote is the first important part of your project. The written quote must reflect in detail, the work that is to be carried out.

The degree of preparation and finishing coats may vary depending on your standards and, from the contractor's point of view, the quoted price. It is therefore crucial that you and the contractor have a complete understanding your specific expectations.

Your view as to the procedure and finish of your project might differ from the contractor's. For example, a painter could spend three hours to finish a door (sand it down, undercoat, then paint) He could spend three days finishing the same door (remove door furniture and strip previous over spray by soaking, remove door and clean hinges, sand down door, fill dips and cracks, two undercoats and two top coats, sanding and filling between each coat, re-hang door). It can even get more detailed depending on what type of door you have.

QUOTING METHOD

In my history of quoting for the domestic market, I've developed a system called the BRONZE, SILVER, or GOLD system where as a BRONZE job would be a quick once over, usually for real estate agents whereas a SILVER job would detail more filling and sanding with one undercoat and two top coats, usually for house and unit owners and a GOLD job is the premium package with the maximum amount of preparation.

PROCEEDURE PREPARATION (GOLD)

All drop sheets and plastic spread.---work station established.---All holes, cracks, and dips are filled.---All bumps and peaks, oil, woodwork, etc, to be sanded.---Dust and vacuum after each sanding.--- undercoat surfaces.---filling and sanding is performed after each coat prior to last coat.---Work area will be left clean and tidy at the end of each day.

With no dips or peaks left on any surface, two undercoats and two premium top coats, our team will leave an immaculate finish unsurpassed even by the most trained eye.
