Carts don’t have windshields. Day we played was cold and rainy, so rain came in our faces as we moved. No club covers. Played Thursday of week of WM Open and they charged us $300 for cart path only and we rented clubs, no hand towels included with rentals, guy in pro shop told us we could buy towels. Smallest GPS screen ever had. Cheap operation, won’t be back.

The Padre is a lovely golf course. There are some wide fairways but some tight approaches to greens protected by plenty of bunkers. There are some long par 4’s and 5’s. It is well kept and a pleasure to play. Certainly worth a return visit, perhaps to try out the other course.

It was a beautiful Sunday morning, ruined by a poorly ran golf tournament. We visited the area for work and set up a golf day for our one day off of a seven day work trip. Excited to play golf and relax, but we were met head on with a round of golf that was slower than a funeral. The golf shop had failed to mention we along with numerous other groups would be following a non shotgun golf tournament that lead to 3-4 group hold ups along the way in which our round took us 5h:45m to complete. This is far from with the 190+75 for green and club rentals fees.

The course was in poor condition and there was garbage all along the way. Not very beautiful at all. It’s a great layout and has potential to be really good, but I will never spend my hard earned money here again. Go to any other of the great courses in the area and take this one off your list.

Very nice layout, challenging but fair, great course condition. However the Pro Shop staff was not very accommodating. Luckily the starter was much nicer by letting us tee off earlier when there was nobody waiting. Nice course but too expensive if one has to pay full price for this course. Ocotillo is just as nice and half the price.

Stay away from this course. It ir poorly maintained. Every fairway is patchy and you will need to move your ball for a better lie. Most of the greens were brown and very patchy around them . This course isn't even comparable to a municipal course. The price is outrageous for the conditions. Played other courses in the area and everyone of them was better. Do not play Ambiente

I'll start with the day before our round... My wife and I stopped by to check the course out as we were playing it the next day and we had heard that it just came out of overseed. We stopped in the pro shop and while there a woman comes in and complains, quite crazily I will add, about there not being any toilet paper in the lady's restroom. She went into pretty graphic detail about the situation. My issue was the response of the staff member. Snarky with an extremely dismissive tone. He told her that they knew about the problem but their Sysco shipment of TP wasn't due in until tomorrow. After she left he commented to us, "She's just looking for a free lunch or something and she's not getting it from me. She doesn't know who she's dealing with. I've been doing this for seven years and I know how to handle people like her.". My wife did note that the lady's room was low on toilet paper. With this situation why wouldn't the GM send one of the employees to a local store to buy several rolls until their Sysco shipment got in??

Fast forward to Monday. We arrived at the course early so we could grab a sandwich before our round. When we pulled in we saw there was some type of outing going on. The bag drop area was a zoo. We headed in for lunch and when we entered the lobby we were greeted by a middle aged, dark haired lady who barked at us, "ARE YOU HERE FOR THE OUTING?!". We said no we were just trying to great a bite to eat. She then informed us, in an incredibly surly manner that she didn't even think the restaurant was open due to the outing. We did make it to the restaurant and we were able to order lunch. Our server was great. He was a very helpful and nice young man. The food was very average. After lunch I had to haul our golf bags up from the parking lot as the bag drop area was a zoo due to the outing. I checked in with Jason and he was less than pleasant. We headed over to warm up and then touched base with the starter. While waiting I was talking with the starter and Jason comes flying up in a cart. Jason jumps out of the cart and barks (there's that word again) at the starter, "do you have your radio?". The starter, a bit of an elderly gentleman and soft spoken, tells Jason that he did. Jason barks (yet again), "Where is it?". The starter pulls it out of his pocket. Jason barks (and again), "Is it working?? I've been trying to reach you and you're not responding. We are slammed up there and I need to be able get you on the radio.!!". Jason then quite sarcastically tells the starter to "try the volume". The only reason I didn't type this in all caps is my reluctance to type in all caps. Jason humiliated the elderly starter with his nasty, snarky approach. Jason's complaint was valid. The way Jason handled the situation was sad and demeaning. Jason is an A-Hole. Whoever is responsible for managing the personnel at this facility is incompetent. Ridiculously incompetent. If hosting a large outing sends your staff into an overwhelmed tizzy then close the entire course down for the day and focus on the outing. I had played here years ago on a business outing and it was top shelf. I had really looked forward to bringing my wife here to share the same experience. How very disappointed we both were. There are far too many choices in this area when it comes to golf. I would not recommend that Camelback be on your list. I also have a very hard time understanding how this facility could be affiliated with the JW Marriott Camelback Resort. The JW Marriott Camelback Resort is exemplary. Its reputation was severely tarnished by the association with the golf course.

Oh yeah, and the course was average. At best. I've played better munis.

My wife and I went to Arizona for Giants spring training. We had one day to play golf in Arizona. We saw on-line and when we looked out toward the fairway, beutiful grass fairways and (2) holes surrounding water with some interesting greens. What we got was when we drove off in our cart was dried out fairways with no roughs at all between a bunch of homes. The ground was hard as a rock. The greens were ALL flat, boring and bumpy. The local muni course in my backyard is more interesting. We never came close to the pretty greens surrounding the water at the clubhouse. Must be a different course. The 18th hole finished a 1/4 mile from the clubhouse. All and all a big rip-off for the money we spent. They should be ashamed of themselves. Just terrible. Don't bother.

I live in the Phoenix area and play a round on average twice a week. Each week I try a new place, my 'home' course if you will is Silverado also in Scottsdale. Camelback Golf Club (doesn't matter which course, they share a clubhouse) was BY FAR the worst golfing experience I've add in probably my lifetime. Sounds overly dramatic, I agree, but here's why:
1.) If you put the address on their website (mockingbird lane) into your GPS it won't take you there. You'll find yourself a good mile away in a different neighborhood. When I arrived, 30 minutes later then I'd have liked, I tell this to the guy at the pro shop. He says to me "yea, we know it doesn't bring you here. Neither does google maps". WHAT?? So knowing this why don't they put an asterik on their website next to address or on the location/maps section of their site? Way to be proactive.
2.) Course (Indian) was in bad shape. If you're not from AZ, let me just share that April is by far the easiest time of year to keep a course out here in great shape, thats why you pay 'in-season' rates in Feb, Mar, April, because the courses are supposed to be in the best shape of the year, before the 100+ temps kick in. This course was bad. The tee boxes were horrible, as if the markers hadn't been moved in months. Greens were in average-- at best-- many had a surface in bad shape, whole condition of the greens bad.
3.) GPS in cart didn't even work, and when it tried to it was off by a country mile. Even worse.......there are NO traditonal markers anyway on the course with the ONLY exception being the 150 stick. Even the scorecard was off and not accurate to tee or pin locations. Of the 18 holes, we saw ONE a par three that had a 170yd marker in the tee box. (Our GPS was saying it was 115 to the flag-- good luck picking your club!)
4.) Every hole was backed up at least one group, several we were backed up two groups, and one even three groups were waiting.
5.) We saw a "Player Assitant" four times on the front nine, complained each time at the backup and slow pace of the game, never saw this Assistant once on the back nine and it only got worse.
6.) Making the turn at hole 10, we arrive to find four older women (60-70yrs old) teeing off at our tee box. We'd been playing behind an all male foursome the first nine holes. When we asked if we, or if they, were at the wrong hole, they proceed to tell us they live on the course and can come in and play whenever they want. If the pace was slow before, NOW it was gruelling. That said, even the four old ladies were on the heels of the grouping in front of them!
7.) Cart girl was very nice. Beers overpriced ($5 each) but thats the norm when you play just about anywhere, so not going to complain about that.

If you are thinknig about playing here, DONT! Go to Silverado, its $10-20 cheaper and a TON nicer course, much better value, and all around much, much better managed.

Arthur Hills designed the Padre Course at Camelback Golf Club to deliver a fun round that's tough to forget. Trees tower, landforms show subtly, and bunkers improve your golf skills. The par-72 golf course measures 6,903 yards, and has gained its renown by offering a design that requires strategy. A round of golf on the Padre Course at the Camelback Golf Club kicks off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 446 yards from the black tees. Things get long on the fifth hole, a par 5 that comes in at 553 yards from the black tees, one of four 500-plus-yard holes. The 18th hole is one of these: It's 547 yards from the black tee to the post-round celebration.

After your round on the Padre Course at Camelback Golf Club, head to the Golf Grill, serving U.S. cuisine and a fancy Sunday brunch in the style of Southwestern country clubs. There's also a luxury lounge where you can spend winters on the patio by the fireplace.

There are two courses offered for play at Camelback Golf Club, the Padre Course and the Ambiente Course. After playing the Padre course, I’d describe it as more of a parkland setting. To me that means you can spray it a bit off the tee and still find your ball on grass. This is a rare occurrence in my mind when playing desert golf. The Ambiente Course is described by the staff as being a links type course. Not much room for error off the tee or approach shots.

The grill is great. We got there at 6:30am for a 7am tee time. There were fresh breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches ready and hot. They are very good about giving you a big glass of ice to keep cool before heading out.

The staff are all pros and a pleasure to deal with. They can easily recommend a restaurant close by or make a meal recommendation for the Golf Grill.

The newly remodeled course at the Camelback Golf Club is called Ambiente. It just opened Nov. 2013 after a $10 million dollar redo. The course is in very good shape for being brand new and is located just minutes from the heart of Old Scottsdale. Personally I found the design to be a bit repetitive. All 18 holes play along a desert wash with nine holes going out one side and nine returning on the other. The holes run nearly end to end and mostly in the same direction making it a bit tedious. The land is quite flat except for the rolling greens and has a definite links feel to the layout. If you can get a good value on a tee time it is worth trying.
