On Tuesday, China's coast guard fired water cannons at a Philippine vessel, causing damage to it.
This is the latest escalation in tensions between the two nations in the contested South China Sea, according to Philippine authorities.
The Philippine Coast Guard reported that the incident occurred during a routine patrol near Scarborough Shoal, within Manila's exclusive economic zone.
Video footage provided by the Philippine Coast Guard depicted two larger Chinese vessels firing water cannons from opposite sides of the Philippine ship.
