I was so excited to check out Shockoe Bottom Clay and they did not disappoint. I was peering into their windows on Tuesday, bumped into a couple ladies who were also in town for the NCECA Pottery conference and I was wishing they were open so I could go in! No worries, I made it back Friday evening before close and just loved all the ceramic art I saw! I bought several pieces- love love love my new utensil canister made by Daniel Christie- I loved the glaze on all his pots! I found a mug first, but traded up for the canister. And Lisa Fleet stole my heart between a gorgeous glazed stemless wine cup (that's what I am going to use it for) and a kitty mug~ because Meow! Great prices too- I was able to buy 3 pieces and could've spent so much more there! I really loved going upstairs to the artists spaces and next door for the gallery showing. Fabulous! Absolutely fabulous artists! I didn't take pictures of the carved lidded pots- that had holes in the lids! So fun! And I adored the wall flowers- crazy gifted artists at Shockoe!

So happy to discover this pottery gallery. I window shopped my way into an exciting purchase of two ramen bowls for my son's birthday this weekend.

The artist called to alert me about a mismatch between online inventory I had ordered and actual products on hand. I appreciated her getting a good solution in place right away for me. She was easy to work with and understanding of the time restraint with this being a birthday gift.

The bowls come with chopstick and designed with holes to rest them. It's a price investment but totally worth it for that unique gift that supports local art and is going to be cherished by my little foodie, who prefers to take his meals with chopsticks over western utensils any day.

This place is wonderful. Absolutely beautiful pottery and clay art by local artists, and a knowledgeable and friendly owner. We commissioned 2 large vessels for our new home and are so pleased with the results. Go here if you are looking for something unique and special for your home or a gift. You won't be disappointed!

Never have I felt like criminal before walking into this establishment. The owner/clerk locked the door while I was browsing the gallery for an interesting piece for some still life photos. As if I had nefarious intentions. I have never had this happen to me before. It's pretty offensive.

Love love love supporting local artists! Not only what you buy is handmade, but it's also very useful in our day to day lives. Of course, depending on what you buy.

This store is so dangerous, it's makes you wanna buy everything- if you appreciate handmade clay work.

I've come here multiple times and every time I do, I end up leaving with something in hand.

They're all very talented artists and very opened to all parts of their studio. If you get lucky, you'll meet one of the artist's dog Rosa. She's the sweetest!

I'll def. be coming back and hopefully my kitchen will be filled with their work~

This place is filled with natural lighting and very opened! Will be back in the near future

Absolutely loved visiting Shockoe Bottom Clay on a recent work trip to RVA. The pottery was all handmade from around the area and absolutely gorgeous. The owner was fantastic to chat with and had wonderful background on the artists, it is obvious she creates relationships with the persons whose work she shows and it shows!

Will be back each time I am in RVA.

The sweetest people work here! We passed by and decided to go in. We were greeted and helped by the owner. She told us how each piece was made. We fell in love with everything! Each artist has a great gift at pottery.

This place has beautiful, handcrafted pottery and ceramics. The shop is bright and airy, and organized really beautifully. Many of the artists featured have work spaces onsite--the back part of the building has work stations for the artists that you can see and it's a cool aspect of the space in general. Styles between different pieces and artists range widely, and everything was super unique and beautiful. Pretty much everything is pricey but worth the integrity of the work if you have the money to part with. I'll be back after I save up for a collection I have my eye on.

My boyfriend and I love popping into Shockoe Bottom Clay! The owner, Susan is so friendly and knowledgeable about the studio spaces and each artist that occupies them. The clay works of art are displayed beautifully and as a patron you can even walk throughout the back and see the artist's spaces and other finished works for sale. This store front has a very homey and intimate feel while still being open, airy and gorgeous. Spend an afternoon browsing the eclectic works of art! You won't be disappointed.
