It has been incredible, though sometimes admin focuses on athletics more than it should. We are not an athletic focused school. Academics are great. Diversity of race, ethnicity and class could be improved, but it is a private school and cost is a factor... Teachers are very involved and extremely qualified. Great experience over all. Counseling is also great and very involved.
I am a current senior at Shipley, class of 2024. I have been at Shipley since my freshman year. It is a beautiful campus with overall good teachers and rigorous academics. We may not have the best sports teams, or the most funded arts program, but it is a spirited community with very welcoming energy.
We have two children at Shipley who have been enrolled since PreK and K. We love this school! Our kids are nurtured, challenged, supported, and given all of the tools they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. The teachers are phenomenal and the community is welcoming. Our 2 children are very different from each other in many ways, but especially as learners, and Shipley is the perfect school for both of them.
My name is Mia and I am a current sophomore at Shipley. I have had such a great experience here ever since I came in 6th grade. All the students were incredibly supportive when I first came and I immediately felt at home and able to be myself. All my teachers have always been available when I needed them most and I can count on them to be on my side. One of my favorite things about Shipley is that they are constantly striving to better themselves so they really focus on student voice. They listen to student suggestions and try to improve ways to hear students' voices. Our community will prepare you for life outside of school and give you the skills necessary to succeed.
I was new to Shipley in 9th grade, and I was really nervous about the transition, but Shipley made it so easy for me to be integrated into the new environment, make friends, get adjusted to classes, etc. Shipley has such a variety of activities that every student is sure to find something that they are passionate about and will be able to prosper in and enjoy. As someone involved in the Shipley Theater Department, I have found that Shipley's representation of the arts is fantastic and so inclusive for everyone of any skill level.
I am a current Junior at the Shipley school and I have nothing but amazing things to say about the community I am a part of. I have been attending the school since kindergarten and never for a second have I believed there would be a better school to be a part of academically or socially. Shipley is not only a school to the students but also a home, with the people around you becoming your family. The teachers at the school are some of the best you will find, and their devotion to helping each student individually gives them the opportunity to be able to accomplish everything they may want academically. Every person you will find in the school is accepting, kind, and caring towards everyone no matter if they are their best friend or someone they just see passing in the halls. Shipley is a school unlike any other, and the perfect place to help your kids be able to succeed in what they want to do, while surrounded by people who care about them.
I am a senior at Shipley and I first started here as a 9th grader. From the moment I came to Shipley, I felt extremely welcomed in this community and instantly had opportunities to branch out and find new passions and make friends. No matter who you are and what you like to do, there will always be something here for you to enjoy. The academics at Shipley are excellent. The teachers truly care about their students and are always willing to answer questions and meet outside of class to go over material. I feel very well prepared to move on to college next year thanks to all the work Shipley has done to make me a strong student. There is an abundance of clubs and activities that students can get involved in. The community also enjoys supporting the athletes by showing up to their games and cheering them on. Shipley is a great environment to be a part of and I am so thankful to be a part of the community!
My name is Caroline, and I am a current 10th grader at the Shipley School. I came to Shipley in 8th grade, where I was immediately welcomed with open arms. Everyone was so helpful, and genuinely willing to make sure that I was adjusting to the community. The past couple of years that I have spent at this school have been amazing. Shipley has allowed me to challenge myself academically, as I take several honors classes. I really enjoy the rigor of the classes, and the added challenge has helped me grow as a student and a person. All of my teachers are always willing to give any extra help I may need.I am also a member of 3 sports teams. I absolutely love playing Shipley sports due to the excellent coaching staff and the opportunity they give me to progress as an athlete. The Shipley faculty truly cares about its students, and creates such a positive atmosphere. I am looking forward to a great couple more years at Shipley!
I am a current 9th grader at Shipley, and my years there have been great! The faculty are amazing: they teach challenging material in an engaging manner while also maintaining personal connections with all of their students. The student body is incredibly friendly, and I know that if I start a conversation with anyone, they will give me respect and they will be genuinely interested in what I am saying. While the school is not known for being especially talented at sports, we make up for it by having a strong visual and performing arts program, and by fostering a sports program based on sportspersonship. Anyone at Shipley is treated with respect and kindness, no matter their race, gender, sexuality, religion, or socio-economic status, and support groups are in place to make sure everyone feels at home while in school. Altogether, Shipley is and has been an incredible place to learn, and an incredible place to spend my teenage years!
Our son just started Shipley in the 6th grade. The school has been extremely welcoming and helped integrate new students by hosting events before the school year began. It offers an impressive array of classes and clubs for middle schoolers, and the teachers and staff are knowledgeable, caring, and engage the students. Nothing made us happier -- and there is no greater endorsement -- than having our son actually say, "Thank you for sending me to Shipley."
Really great collaborative environment, lots of freedom to do what you want, teachers are really willing to help, and staff is really nice.
Good education but diversity struggles and they try too hard at making it seem like Shipley is very diverse. Shipley cares only about the parents and what they think. However, the teachers are amazing and so is the education if you apply yourself.
The Shipley School is a great place for student development and life preparation. All of the teachers want to see the student excel, and if necessary they take time out of their day to meet with students (the student can set up a meeting with the teacher or the teacher can ask the student to meet). Also, the community at Shipley is very inclusive; each grade bonds very well with each other through grade bonding activities. At Shipley, I mostly enjoy sports and academics. The sports at the Shipley School are competitive, but also fun. The coaches for each sport are well experienced and want to see their team do well. In terms of academics, I love going to class each day, excited to see what we are learning next. The teachers are well versed in their subjects and have a passion for teaching students. I highly recommend Shipley for all ages, socially and academically.
To fully develop as a student, it's essential to have a strong support system reinforcing all of your work, and in every school, that begins with its teachers. Shipley has never ceased to impress me with the level of support its teachers are willing (and excited) to extend to each student daily. In my sophomore year, I took a challenging chemistry course that left me with many clarifying questions and areas of confusion when studying complex concepts. Each day after class, I stayed back for an extra minute or two and spoke to my teacher, who was visibly excited to answer my questions and help me out. The teachers at Shipley are incredibly enthusiastic and encouraging, creating an atmosphere that paves the way for an altogether supportive community. Feeling such support, I can take academic risks with ease, an integral aspect of my development as a learner.
I am a current staff member at Shipley. I joined the school in summer of 2021. Since day one it has been a welcoming community. When I have a minute to walk around the upper school, I am greeted by teachers and staff.
The students are what makes this community complete. One thing I will say is that there is no "cookie cutter" Shipley student. Students come to school as their true authentic self and we are better because of this.
Another thing I love about Shipley is all of the opportunities it provides for students. Between extracurricular offerings, athletics, theater, art, music, service, etc. it is a great place for students to learn and grow. I have noticed that there is an appropriate amount of challenge and support taking place among staff and students. Students are challenged and encouraged to step outside of their comfort zone and try new things and they are supported along the way.

I had a great time at Shipley. Overall, you get what you want out of your education here. They will give you the opportunity to pursue what you want and you can take advantage of those or not. They won't push you to improve dramatically but if you are self-motivated, you will get far.
Shipley allows each student to learn in the best way for that student. Though 9th grade, you are encouraged to try sports and arts so that you have an appreciation for all. You can do it all at Shipley, play a sport, be in the musical and excel in the classroom. The teachers are invested in their students!
Shipley has some incredible professors and great courses. Shipleys biggest problem is its lack of student diversity.
My name is Riley Medina and I am a current 9th grader at the Shipley School! I can confidently say that I love this school and it's really helped shape who I am today. I'm involved in Shipley girls soccer and Shipley girls basketball. Shipley sports have always been one of my absolute favorite things about the school
due to the excellent training from my coaches and significant team bonding between my peers. Academically, i'm currently take geometry, intro to physics, history 9: worlds in collision, english 9 honors, and french II honors. I really enjoy all of my classes this year. I especially enjoy the french and english department, with the books we read in english and the activities and projects we do in french. I would recommend Shipley to outside families because of how much of a community it truly feels like and because of the sports, art, and theatre program, allowing students to be able to express themselves and develop or strengthen passions for these categories.

My name is Katie Bergen and I am a current senior at shipley. I have been attending shipley since Pre-K so having spent the last 14 years of my life there, I can truly say I would not be the person I am today without Shipley. Shipley has shaped me in so many different ways. Whether it was from the sports field to the class room to the stage shipley pushes their students in every way. They want the best for every kid that walks through their doors and pushes to them to be the version of themselves. I cannot even begin to thank shipley for all the wonderful things they have done for me. Over the past 14 years shipley has transformed a shy girl into a confident and very talkative young adult. Without Shipley I wouldn’t have gained the confidence I use in my everyday life. This is all because of extremely supportive environment the faculty and the administration has created. This supportive environment is what makes Shipley stand out from all the other schools in the area.
