Sherlockian Interview - Peter Shumway

Posted by Steve Emecz on

With the upcoming launch of volumes 43-45 of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories (currently on Kickstarter), we're talking to the authors involved. Today it's Peter Shumway.

Tell us a little about yourself – Where you live and your main hobbies.

I am a retired computer professional residing in Pennsylvania with my wife Patty. We have been married 41 years and have two daughters and four grandchildren. My hobbies include flyfishing and wood carving. In the early 1970s, I performed magic with Bill Baker's World of Magic, John Bundy's Magic Concert, and traded secrets with David Copperfield when we were teenagers. I read the original Sherlock Holmes stories while in college in 1979 and have enjoyed rereading them many times since. I published a pastiche titled "Sherlock Holmes and The Kiss of Death" in 2005.

What’s the name of your story in this collection, and what is it about (with no spoilers)?

I was flattered to be offered the opportunity to write a short story for the MX Series. My story for the collection is titled "The Missing Calabash". Sherlock Holmes is called into a murder case and discovers the victim's pipe is missing. Holmes asks himself why a murderer would take the pipe of his victim, which leads the great detective to the solution of the mystery.

My other recent literary project is a non-Canonical work of historical fiction and magic realism titled "Gullible's Journey" available on Amazon.
