This one came recommend by another local. Croton reservoir is the water supply for NYC. In Croton on Hudson, NY, which is easily accessible from NYC via Metro-North to Croton Harmon and a short Uber to the park. This is actually nicer than Kensico Dam as there is a waterfall here and a Gorge. There is also a part right near the Croton Harmon Station Croton Point Park which is right on the Hudson river. I suppose its possible to also combine this with the Walkway over the Hudson at Poughkeepsie as its on the same train line

Sounds lovely, will add that to my next drive down. I always break the trip up with a stop along the way.

Ive driven lots of times on the Taconic across the Croton Reservoir and never knew there was on a dam on it. You can see one of the Bridges on the Taconic from the top of the Dam. The waterfall was actually quite nice and close to NYC

The New Croton Dam is the largest stone structure built since the days of the pyramids. It replaced the Old Croton Dam that still stands submerged in the reservoir. At the time the old dam and aqueduct were built in the 1840s, roaches started to be a problem in NYC. Some imagined that these had come down the aqueduct and were thus called "Croton bugs."
