The soon-to-be combined A&O Shearman will take over Shearman & Sterling’s office in New York and move to a new locale in London.

The retention of Shearman & Sterling’s headquarters at 599 Lexington Ave. in New York follows a two-year renovation of the space completed in late 2022. In London the firm will occupy Allen & Overy’s current office at One Bishops Square but will move to new space at 2 Broadgate on the Broadgate campus in early 2027.

“One of the exciting aspects of our combination is bringing our people together into a single office in each jurisdiction where we operate,” the firm said in a statement Thursday. The approach “will accelerate our integration, foster collaboration and create powerful financial synergies on the real estate side.”

Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling announced plans to combine into a global legal giant last May that is slated to have roughly 4,000 lawyers and $3.4 billion in combined revenue. The firms’ partnership approved the merger last fall and it is slated to be completed by May 2024.

The timeline for determining and moving into office space after the merger closes will vary based on jurisdiction, but the objective is to complete all moves as quickly as possible, the firm said.

“Whether we will be in the legacy Allen & Overy or legacy Shearman & Sterling space—or entirely new space—will vary by location,” the firm said in a statement.

Another thing still left to be determined is who will lead the soon-to-be created A&O Shearman. The voting for senior partner and managing partner of A&O Shearman will take place in February with the results being announced on March 1.
