Good cd of Tom Petty.
Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2014
Like another reviewer said, great songs such as 'walls', 'angel dream' ,' hope you never' ,'California " (these last 2 songs are so simple, but are pure magic/talent by petty . How in his un-canny way to write a simple but dream like place in your mind "SONG", always impresses me. This song was a very popular hit and fan favorite, both for people that live in California and those in the millions that wish they did. As well as 'hope you never', a real fan favorite , simple... but sweet as cake song in that great nasty way. I would say, that if these songs are ever left off a best of collection, then TOM PETTY let us down. They are true collector's items that should be bronzed and put on a fire place mantel. I really think there just amazing. Goes to show people how simple but to the point lyrics with a good chorus in a song can make a little 2-3 minute song, into a great imagery and feeling in one's mind. It would be a very major disappointment to all his fans, if Mr. petty could not find a place for all 4 of these great mountains (songs), to put on a greatest hits or best of. Those 4 songs are like the mona lisa. Always looking at you, when you here them on the radio or this cd. Just pure talent !!!! ( The fans, nor I care if those 4 songs did or did not have high charting power....THEY ARE TOM PETTY, that's why everybody loves those songs). That's why they like those songs so well. Must be on greatest hits album. So never say never to these songs "TOM's RECORD COMPANY". They are tom's very best songs, and in his prime writing/ singing years of the classic "WILDFLOWERS cd" era. JUST FREEKEN GREAT. ...................................Happy x-mas to all, and all a good night of tom petty music"

Even Petty ignored this album in the Runnin' Down A Dream documentary. That may have been due to some kind of legal tie up, but it was ignored nonetheless. Just make sure that you don't ignore this one.
It's difficult to rate Petty's output because there's quite a bit and it is mostly fantastic. She's The One is certainly one of those fantastic efforts. It begins with one of my favorite Petty tracks - one of my favorite songs ever - Walls (Circus). It is poppy and beautiful with great harmony and amazing playing. It's a shame that this one doesn't play all the time on the radio because it is an amazing track and it is not the only one on this album.
Petty pulls off two very good covers (Lucinda Williams and Beck) and throws out originals that can be poppy, edgy, heavy, sentimental, beautiful, and some of them all of those. Then he throws you a curve with the jazzy Airport to close.
Angel Dream, California, the beautiful instrumental Hope On Board, Grew Up Fast, and so much more. It's catchy. It's got some great heavy guitar in places.
It's just a great album. But it kinda got lost in the Tom Petty shuffle. Understandable for a guy that has had a consistently excellent career and even hot more than he missed on his worst effort, Let Me Up (I've Had Enough).
This can be a good place to start with Petty, but it is one of many of those. I think you'll like it.

Tom Petty was asked to write songs for the sound track to the movie "She's The One". He nailed it! I wasn't sure what to expect since it was written for a very cute movie but I am so glad I purchased it. It is up there with my favorites....if you can have a Tom Petty favorite. I love all of his albums and I think I own almost all of them. I guess I could say it is a bit more mellow....in a good way. I don't think you would be disappointed if you purchased this. I'm very happy that I did.

Great tunes! Didn’t know this CD was available until recently. I’m a die-hard Tom Petty fan. Now I want to see the movie to see how the soundtrack goes with it.

While its not essential Petty, it is late 90s Petty, post-Greatest Hits and Wallflowers Petty. There are a few interesting covers on here. Overall, the sound is great. I got this after reading his Biography by Zanes, because before that I had no idea what this was. Put it on when with a summer breeze blowing in.

This is a great album. I read about it in "Conversations with Tom Petty". I immediately wanted to find it. At that time it wasn't listed anywhere. Then a few months ago, it appeared on Amazon with other TP listings and I ordered it. I have been playing it over and over, and still
finding more each time I hear it.
She's the One has powerful lyrics and music. Powerful combinations of phrasing, timing, voices, the use of the guitars and other unusual instruments. This album shows off the virtuosity of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers . I like to listen on my headphones, and this really blows me away. All the songs are barn burners.
THanks to TP and the Heartbreakers for re- releasing this.
