Shaun Hardy charged with killing missing ex-wife; had history of domestic violence

LEAGUE CITY, Texas – A Texas man is charged with murdering his missing ex-wife after police found a body in his home, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.

Anne-Christine Johnson, 30, was last seen on Dec. 8. On Dec. 30, police reportedly found a body inside Shaun Hardy’s home. Police have not yet released information identifying the remains.

KHOU reports that according to court documents, the couple filed for divorce in 2014, and in 2015 there were two separate protective orders. The first one was filed by Hardy, 32, then a month later, Johnson filed one, saying, “He has assaulted me with a shotgun, threatened me with a knife and choked me.”

Johnson says she was even hospitalized for treatment. She goes on to say, “I am afraid that without this protective order, Shaun Philip Hardy will continue to hurt me or even kill me.”

Family members told the station that Johnson has two children, an 8-year-old and a 5-year-old. KHOU reports Hardy is the father of the 5-year-old and Anne-Christine’s mother, Stephanie Johnson, believes that her daughter may have been spending time with Hardy despite the protective order because of the child.

Hardy was immediately a person of interest in the case. Around 3 p.m. Friday, investigators arrived at Hardy’s home with a search warrant for specific piece of property, but ended up finding the remains.

League City Police wouldn’t specify where in this house remains were found, but Anne-Christine’s mother told KHOU that she was told in the garage.

Neighbors told the station they noticed Hardy doing things differently in recent weeks.

“He always had his garage open,” said neighbor Lorenz Yasa.  “And then, lately, he had it closed.”
