Simon Russell Beale

Described by The Independent as “the greatest stage actor of his generation” Simon has astonished audiences for decades with his interpretations of Shakespeare’s greatest roles. At the National Theatre Simon received great critical acclaim as Benedick in 'Much Ado About Nothing,' Iago in 'Othello' and the title roles in 'King Lear,' 'Timon of Athens,' and 'Hamlet.' For the RSC Simon has performed in 'The Tempest,' 'King Lear,' 'Richard III' and 'Troilus and Cressida' and was unanimously lauded for his performance as Leontes in 'The Winter’s Tale' directed by Sam Mendes at the Old Vic Theatre. Simon won a BAFTA for his performance as Falstaff in the BBC’s The Hollow Crown and for his performance in the BBC’s 'A Dance to the Music of Time' in 1997. Alongside his acting work, Simon has also presented two series of Sacred Music for BBC Four. His many film credits include The Deep Blue Sea (2011), Disney’s Into the Woods (2014), and My Week With Marilyn (2011) and Orlando (1992).
