The Tempest with Trevor Nunn

The Tempest with Trevor Nunn

Hell is empty and all the devils are here. Trevor Nunn, acclaimed director of 30 of Shakespeare’s 37 plays, takes you through the otherworldly and supernatural The Tempest.

Shakespeare’s last play, The Tempest, is considered his farewell: to stage and, maybe, to life. Nunn explores the biographical nature of the text, which is at times comic and other times tragic, and its connection to the playwright’s own troubled history. He also explores the stagecraft: the fact that The Tempest is a play of special effects, apparitions and magic.

Interviews include: Archbishop of Canterbury Dr. Rowan Williams, Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren and acclaimed film and theater director Julie Taymor, who recently directed a film adaptation that features Mirren in which the lead role was recast as a female named Prospera.
