PHOENIX — Rain and snow are still working their way through our state as we wake up to stormy weather.

Showers will continue throughout the Valley and in the High Country near the I-40 corridor this morning with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Watch out for hail as some storms may be strong enough to make larger pieces.

On Easter Sunday, Phoenix set a new daily rainfall record of 0.31 inches, the National Weather Service announced.

Stormy weather conditions are expected to clear up later in the afternoon closer to the evening.

Saturday

In the Valley, rain showers are expected to start in the evening on Saturday and continue through the morning on Sunday.

And if your plans involve Easter brunch outside, you might want to reconsider — or bring a jacket. With localized heavy rain, elevated windspeeds, possible thunderstorms and predicted lows rivaling the all-time low of 57 degrees in 1937, Easter is sure to be memorable — but we would recommend remembering it from indoors!

A winter storm watch was issued Friday afternoon for Saturday evening into Sunday. According to the National Weather Service is Flagstaff, the heaviest snow is expected late Saturday evening to early Sunday morning.

Snowfall on Easter day may be rare, but it is expected for portions of Flagstaff. In 1999, there was a snowfall of 9.8 inches, and residents of the high country can expect similar snowfall for Easter 2024.

And here is a look at where snowfall will be heaviest on both Interstates 17 and 40 in Arizona:

The National Weather Service in Phoenix said that they expect showers to hit the West Valley just after midnight on Easter Sunday.

We will continue to track the weather developments throughout the weekend. Stay with 12News for updates.
