Seu Jorge has appeared in many film's including the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. In that movie he appeared as a sailor strumming bossa nova-flavored versions of David Bowie songs in Portuguese. A handful of those songs appeared on the soundtrack to the film but now the entire recording is being made available.

While The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou movie got mixed reviews, the soundtrack was universally hailed as excellent. The standout was Jorge, who not only had a role as an actor but also played a handful of Bowie songs solo with acoustic guitar, singing them in Portuguese it was a perfect combination of beautiful songs laid bare with a bit of exotic Brazilian spice to add fresh flavor. This collection features the whole of that Bowie session, which means Jorge's six songs from the soundtrack, seven other Bowie tunes and one playful Jorge original entitled "Team Zissou." Even though 2005 saw the release of his domestic debut Cru (which mostly featured his own songs and a band), Jorge found himself touring the U.S. in front of large crowds of 20-somethings who patiently waited for those Bowie songs. This album obviously gives the people what they want, and the good news is that the other versions are just as good as the ones that are on the original soundtrack. --Tad Hendrickson

I bought this CD because I think " The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" is a masterpiece of cinema. The Bowie renditions by Seu Jorge are like a spice used judiciously in a signature culinary dish: You don't necessarily notice it right away but if it wasn't there you'd certainly miss it.
This CD in its entirety is in my entertaining playlist and somewhere between the welcome drink and the appetizer my date usually says something like " Hey, that's a David Bowie song!", and it establishes my home as THE place to be and me as THE person by whom to be entertained.
I would advise a good thorough serious listen also because I find it sonically perfect at the correct volume: This is not something crank up and blast like Ziggy Stardust (& TSFM). Do yourself a favor and get it in your dinner 'party" playlist along with Rampal & Bolling 'Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano " and Van the man's "Astral Weeks"...
If you play it right, your party will be a sucess!

I saw this guy perform downtown Nashville in 2016. I couldn't understand half of what he said (when speaking in English). You don't have to understand what he says when he sings though. He could singing about calling me an idiot and it would still sound awesome. This guys voice is awesome. The movie is one of my favorites and watched it at least 20 times after I discovered it. Bill Murray is just hilarious. But Seu Jorge just sounds amazing. Wish i could have actually met the guy at his show. I would recommend this album to anyone who likes good music. I mean it's all Bowie covers but Seu Jorge sounds awesome.

An absolute must listen for even the most casual Bowie fan or fan of excellent covers. The Portugese lyrics make the songs sound even more sophisticated, if that's really possible for any DB tune. Heck, I've read that Bowie himself loved them and there is no greater praise than that.

Seu Jorge's fantastic arrangments of Bowie classics are, for me, a big part of what makes the movie The Life Aquatic so enjoyable. The soundtrack album to the movie however, while brilliant, is let down by the poor audio quality of the Seu Jorge tracks which were apparently recorded on-set. This new collection includes all the songs and more from that album, but professionally recorded in a studio setting like they should have been from the start. I give this four stars rather than five because, having become accustomed to the sound of the Soundtrack versions, these recordings can occasionally sound a little sterile by comparison, and I'm not sure yet if it's just me. Perhaps Seu Jorge's style is benefits from a more live, heat of the moment sound. Despite this I come back to this album again and again.

The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions is a must-have for fans of the movie, Bowie, and Sue Jorge's unique take on his work.

With David now numbered among the dear departed relistening to reimaginings of some of his classics reminded me of how good this L.P is and how transferable his melodic gifts were.
This is ( almost) OST , first time I saw the movie I thought “I know that tune” as the main characters strolled past an incredibly cool 😎 looking cat strumming an acoustic on the dock.
This kept happening!
The penny dropped that the aforementioned “cool cat” was playing Bowie songs , sung in ( it transpired) Portuguese.
It’s brilliant, beautiful and fun.!
