Commanded by 2 brothers and her sister, perfect option for staying and enjoying Fakarava. Hugo and his brother were waiting for us at the airport. allways smiling really happy shinny people (of course..if i could live there, i will be like one more brother of them). They took us to our room situated at garden bungalow...no air conditionated but we never had any problem for spleeping cause rooms are really fresh with lots of air opening windows. towels and sheets are changed every 3 days so do not take towel to the beach.....you got special trips by boat not so expensives. We make a special trip of half day (50 dollars each) for 3 snorkel places and to a lovelly beach with some coconuts and fruits...only driver took beer...very special guy...remember....happy happy people!!!!.
At the hotel beach you got a restaurant with few options but really tasty food and drinks. Best dinners ever...chef is really professional and awesome guy. WATER is not drinkable so be aware of these...there are warnings at the bathroom of this...solving this they put a safe water machine for FREE so no need to worry...(you can use it also for dinner and fill your bottle before entering)..Half pension is around 70 dollars each day per person...really need to try dinners (2 plates plus dessert). You can swim at their beach. They got a private aquarium perfect for snorqueling...also there were 3 sharks near aquarium...u can feel free to swim with them...(just 1.5 meters each...of course we didnt try it...but "impossible is nothing" says Nike commercial).
When we leave the hotel, they gave us for free a very nice pearl gift...love this guys!!!!!!
Only 1 claim...when we get at the airport, they only give flowers collar to girls...boys are discriminated...be aware!!!!!
Feel free to ask anything...we got fresh experience. Tom & Belen

Two years ago, my fiancé and I visited Fakarava and stay at the now closed White Sands Beach Resort. It should have closed as it was a terrible place. Our return trip brought us to the Havaiki Pearl Guest House and what a difference. The owner Joachim, from the time we arrived to the moment we stepped off his van to at the airport, was charming, hospitable and when he could be, helpful.

The premises are kept in a very clean and sanitary condition and everything is in good repair. The staff, particularly Sebastian and Vela, are absolutely great. We had a great 8 night stay and have no complaints whatsoever.

Joachim and his family could not have been more welcoming. The accomodation is very clean, functional and true island style in comfort.
The restaurant was excellent and every dish was perfectly cooked, with second helpings offered when you cleaned up your plates!
It was so good to get away from the resort and chain hotels and find genuine thought and care in the service and presentation of facilities.
All the other guests were considerate to each other, early nights and early mornings for the majority who were diving or snorkeling or taking a bicyle out for a spin before the heat of midday.
Having a pearl farm at the end of the jetty was fascinating and the jewelry is all individually hand made so unique pieces to treasure.
Not sure I really want to tell too many people about it as it really is a fantastic find and we would go back again for sure.
Definately the best place on Fakarava and the highlight of our Tahitian holiday.

We stayed at the Havaiki Pearl Guest House for 6 nights in August 2008. It is an excellent choice for those staying in Fakarava, and a much better value than the pricey hotels.

Breakfast and dinner are included and were fantastic. Breakfast comes with fresh baguettes, jams, cheeses, ham, juice, coffee and tea. Dinner is a 3 course affair and was delicious every night except one (steak was well done). You eat with your fellow guests at a long table. Almost everyone staying there (including us) was a scuba diver using the nearby dive shop Te Ava Nui, which made for plenty of conversation each night.

Havaiki serves lunch as well which you have to pay for, but it was inexpensive and the portions were generous. Choices ranged from simple sandwiches and baguettes to hamburgers, pasta and fish.

Havaiki is in a great location within walking / biking distance to town (they have free bikes to use). We stayed in a beach bungalow which had a terrific view of the lagoon. There is no way to lock the room from the outside which made me nervous, but our belongings remained safe.

Pros:
Delicious food
Great location near town
Great value
Beautiful views
Colorful flowers planted around the property give a nice ambiance

Cons:
Cold water showers -- brrr!
Roosters crowing around 4am were a nuisance
Many mosquitoes and bugs around (hard to avoid though)
No air conditioning - ceiling fan in the room but ours didn't work...

While we enjoyed our stay here, we were definitely thankful to move on to Bora Bora with its hot showers, air conditioning, and luxurious pampering.

Bungalow: Our beach bungalow, #5, was next to the lunch restaurant. Pros: hot lunch on our porch and a shorter luggage drag down the sand path at check-in than B9, the one we'd asked for when booking (repeat guests apparently get priority on such requests). Cons: restaurant noise as well as a 6-seat lunch table in front of B5 that can get noisy if there's a group. The bungalow had everything we needed, including a small refrigerator and hot water pot. Just be forewarned that hot water comes and goes erratically. When it's hot, it's very hot (turn to the RIGHT for hot). Water pressure was never a problem. The bed was surprisingly good. I was afraid might be too firm, but I slept great and woke up with no stiffness in my back. There was no blanket on the bed, only a sheet, so we slept with the air conditioner set to a higher temperature and lower fan speed than we would otherwise. Housekeeping did a wonderful job of keeping sheets and towels refreshed and keeping the room clean, although the towels are a little rough for those of us spoiled by fabric softener.

Food: Dinners were amazing for such a small operation. Daily 3-course French style dinners (7pm) and continental breakfasts (6:30-8:30am) were included in the price. Allergies and food restrictions are noted at time of booking and again upon check-in. The chocolate soufflé on our first night was impressive, as was the savory vanilla sauce on our fish on night 3. Mauruuru roa to Alice, who worked the dining room for 10 days straight, from morning to night, always professional and attentive and giving 100% to us guests.

Water & ice: A filtered water cooler is located next to the restaurant. They provide 2 bottles of water upon arrival and then you just refill them (the tap water is not potable). The one thing I'd ask for--other than more consistent hot water in the showers--is an ice machine. I always felt bad asking the bartender or the ladies at Le Requin Dormeur (lunch restaurant) for ice for drinks we didn't buy from them. Tipping does make it easier.

Massage- You'll want to adjust your expectations if you are accustomed to professional massages back home.

Mosquitoes- We only encountered 5-6 mosquitoes in our entire week at Havaiki. None were in our room or at the restaurant. We may have each gotten one bite but it's hard to tell because they aren't itchy.

Activities: We booked two excursions through Havaiki: (1) a full day south pass snorkel tour with motu picnic and (2) a half day Green Lagoon & coral garden snorkel tour). They also book with third parties, depending on various logistical factors, but both of ours were with their guy, George, which made it convenient. Do not even try to book before arrival, as bookings can only be made the day before the excursion due to weather conditions and the number of people wanting that tour that day. Upon arrival, inform the receptionist which tours you want to take and they will be arranged for you as soon as conditions allow. You will receive confirmation of the next day's arrangements at dinnertime, then just hope weather doesn't cause cancellation the next morning (which happened to us thanks to heavy winds and thunderstorms). The Havaiki Lodge staff and tour operators work well together at coordinating re-bookings, so you can trust that you'll get your excursions as long as you are there for a reasonable number of days. You can also rent e-bikes and we're so glad Temata recommended them for our ride to PK9 Beach instead of regular bikes (it took 45 minutes each way on the e-bikes). Special thanks to both Temata and Maya, who kindly arranged our excursions, massages and e-bike rentals for us. Temata is also a beautiful dancer! We just got home today and miss this special place already!

I’m here in Fakarava with my husband for our honeymoon and we are staying at Havaiki Lodge, and I must say it’s above expectations! I define it a boutique hotel that deserves five stars! We are staying in a Beach bungalow, right in front of the lagoon and the view is stunning, absolutely amazing! It’s impossible not to fall in love with this wonderful place. The bungalow is very lovely and comfortable, you have everything you need. During the day you can have lunch at the Snack Le Requin Dormeur, the food is really good and you can eat directly on the beach. You can see some nurse sharks swimming close to you and sometimes some black tip sharks. Don’t be afraid, they’re not dangerous and it’s stunning to see them. There are also a very sweet cat and a dog that are very happy to entertain you. The restaurant is absolutely amazing, the food is delicious and the staff is great! Alice is perfect, she is making our stay unfogettable, she’s professional, kind and sweet, she will be in our hearts forever and she’s one of the reasons we want to come back in the future. It’s hard to find persons like her. We want to thank Maya too, she took care of us and planned some excursions (incredibile excusrions!) and she’s been helpuful during our stay.
I reccomend Havaiki Lodge to everyone. If you want to live in a dream, come here and enjoy this paradise! It will be hard to go back to Italy. Thanks a lot. Cristian and Massimo

On a cruise with Aranui we rented bikes and rolled down to the Havaiki to spend the day. Great beaches, bars, restaurants, but the highlight was the pearl farm, where for a few bucks you could choose your oyster and they would release your treasure inside for you ... a true experience and super beautiful - made a little film about it so you can see - link in my bio.

Probably one of the best places in Fakarava that I saw. Think Holiday Inn, but in the French Pacific.

CHECK-IN: Our room wasn't ready when we showed up so we hung around with our luggage trying not to roast in the sun. The main building (reception/restaurant and shop) was closed so there was nowhere to wait but at the beach restaurant, which was full of people occupying the tables on the sand. The receptionist had offered towels but these did not appear. Not much shelter or seating off the sand so we hung out under the little shelter at the end of the pier. Fortunately our room was soon ready so we were only hot and thirsty for a little bit.

ROOM: we had a beach bungalow with great air conditioning. Bed was comfy. If you like hot showers, try to do it when others are likely not washing up else the water could get tepid or lower pressure. No bathtub. Standard bar of soap provided but we had brought our own toiletries. Appreciated that we had a kettle (tea provided in-room). HINT: Basins with water and coconut shells are placed on the balcony so you can wash the sand off your feet before you go in. Divers will appreciate that there is lots of place to hang stuff out to dry on the balcony. Ask for a room further away from the snack bar if you don't want to listen to their music blaring and people talking during the day. Bring a lanyard for your room key (yes, it's a physical room key).

BREAKFAST: limited choice at breakfast buffet. No hot choices. Expect cold cuts, cheeses, fruits, cereals, coffee/tea, pastries. HINT: guests should cover the food (especially the condiments) after they're finished serving themselves - someone had left the lid of the jam jar off. Ants ensued.

LUNCH: available at the snack. Reasonable prices, great fries. Toilet and wash station nearby.

DINNER: set menu posted every morning. Guests must advise reception of any dietary restrictions so they can accommodate. Food is good, but do not expect gourmet. HINT: ask for balsamic vinegar so you can mix it with the olive oil for your bread. The restaurant is quite dark at night and has no air conditioning so mosquitos abound - ask for mosquito coils if necessary. Try to sit under the fans to stay cool - sitting by the windows didn't help.

DRINKING WATER: available at all times from a dispenser outside the main building (sliding doors leading to beach) as well as another in the waiting area on the bar side across from the kitchen.

PEARLS: demonstration was not too expensive so worth the experience. We also each got a free gift after we checked out. :D HINT: Gift shop has a good selection of jewelry and artisanal pearlwork but does not have the gem-quality AAAs you may be looking for. Luckily we had already purchased our pearls elsewhere.

ACTIVITIES: Kayaks were available for use at will - no need for reservations. We borrowed some bikes and went up the road to explore - there are small shops and restaurants on that stretch, and a fully air-conditioned general store with a surprising selection of international goods available at the gas station in town. Locals said alcohol is really expensive in FP so buy your own before you come if you really want it. Snorkelling was OK - visibility wasn't great and not much to see although small sharks visited occasionally. Most of the time we dove the North Pass and didn't book any excursions through the hotel.

SERVICE: generally polite, effective but not effusive, which was fine. Of note: we had left a bag on our boat transfer when we were dropped off: the hotel contacted them and got the bag back for us relatively, for which we were extremely grateful.

WIFI: spotty, but who cares? You're in the middle of a remote island in the South Pacific!!

OTHER NOTES:
* there appeared to be a small public beach on the other side of the pier where the locals hang out - you may want a room further away if you don't want to hear voices and music.
* The dogs seem to be guardians of the place and are harmless - not too interested in handouts, much more interested in head scratchies and naps.
* The public seating on the beach is photogenic but uncomfortable. The concrete tables with benches in the water are covered in algae - bikini-wearers beware!
* Sunsets are UNBELIEVABLE. Must watch.

Really appreciate that the island is still relatively remote and relatively undeveloped, the hotel locally-owned. Would I go back? Yup.

While the Pearl will never bill itself as a five star resort, it is a top notch group of beachfront cottages in the most relaxing island in the world. Good food, friendly pets roaming the ground.

Cottages offer AC and private bathrooms, and each offer a porch right on one of the most beautiful beaches you'll find.

This simplicity brings one luxury no resort can emulate -- make sure to take a trip to their dock at night - the milky way is visible like few places on earth.

We stayed on night before we boarded our dive Liveaboard, the French Polynesia Master.

The grounds are beautiful with lots of lush vegetation and beautiful flower bushes in pots everywhere. The beach is gorgeous and perfect for swimming but you need to be careful of large rocks and corals. There are cool tables with umbrellas in the lagoon so you can sit in the water while you sip your drink in the sweet tradewinds.

The menu is Pre fixe and the night we were there it was perfection. We loved everything. I had contacted them ahead of time and asked that they surprise my friend with a special birthday cake and they exceeded my expectations. We had a Mocha cake confection that was sublime. We paid extra for it but it was well worth it. I've posted a picture of it. Delicious!

They had a stable of bikes that you can take to ride around the island and the three of us had a great time on them. Such a nice idea.

Our room was small but then there were three of us so I think two people would have ample room. There was no air conditioning but having the windows open made the temperature bearable. Bugs and mosquitos weren't a problem but I did get some bites from something at the beach.

Our room was over the restaurant so I was a little concerned that it would be noisy but the resort is so small that noise wasn't a problem.

Everyone was great and I highly recommend this place if you are visiting Fakarava.
