Today is World Environment Day, and it is the International Day for the Fight Against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing.

Today, the Security Council will hold a briefing on the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA), followed by consultations.
At 10:00 a.m., in Conference Room 4, is the launch of the Secretary-General’s Policy Brief Series - Global Digital Compact, Beyond Gross Domestic Product, and International Financial Architecture. More details can be found here.

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.     

Today, Norway will host an international conference on protecting children in armed conflict in Oslo on 5–6 June 2023, together with the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Save the Children International.

At 10:00 a.m., in Conference Room 1, the 2023 resumed session of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations will take place. The session is organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and will be broadcast live on UN Web TV.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk will be in the Austrian capital, Vienna, from 5 to 8 June for events commemorating the 30th anniversary of the World Conference on Human Rights which took place in Vienna in 1993 and paved the way for the creation of the UN Human Rights Office.

Bonn Climate Change Conference: The 58th session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) will take place from 5 to 15 June 2023, in Bonn, Germany.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) will hold its 111th annual Conference in Geneva from 5–16 June 2023.

The Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-23) - (ITU), will be held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, from 5 to 8 June 2023 under the theme “Regulation for a sustainable digital future” and will include a series of thematic events.

The second session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly will be held from 5 to 9 June 2023 in Nairobi. Kenya. The theme of the session is “A sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in times of global crises.”

The 66th session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space continues until 9 June.

Tuesday, 6 June

At 10:00 a.m., in the General Assembly Hall, elections of the non-permanent members of the Security Council will take place.

Today, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the UN, holds public hearings in the case concerning Application of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Ukraine v. Russian Federation). It will be broadcast live on UN Web TV.

In Geneva, the UN Information Service will hold its bi-weekly briefing for journalists.   

Today, the 2023 edition of Tracking SDG7: The Energy Progress Report will be released online, assessing progress towards global targets on access to electricity, clean cooking, renewable energy and energy efficiency, halfway to the 2030 deadline. It is prepared jointly by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the UN Statistics Division (UNSD) at UN DESA, the World Bank and the World Health Organization (WHO)

Wednesday,  7 June      

Today is World Safety Day.

This morning, the Security Council will hold a briefing on the UN Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes committed by ISIL/Da'esh (UNITAD).

At 10:00 a.m., in Conference Room 4, there will be informal consultations on the political declaration for the high-level meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.

At 10:00 a.m., in Conference Room 11, the Peacebuilding Commission will be convening a meeting on regional efforts towards the mainstreaming of the YPS Agenda, building on the Commission’s Strategic Action Plan on Youth and Peacebuilding. The Commission will be briefed by the UN Youth Envoy, the AU Youth Envoy, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the International Political Affairs Sector of the League of Arab States as well as a young peacebuilder.
