Visited the castle on our day of free time in Wernigerode. Our journey started at Stop 1 behind our hotel by the road tram up to the castle walls. From the walls the walk up to the castle is by a steel slope or steps. Managed the steps with my new knee but it was a struggle. The castle is impressive but plenty of work being carried out on the exterior walls. A small gift shop is open were you buy tickets to visit inside the castle. A small cafe is situated outside but was closed at the time of our visit.

Our schedule didn’t allow time to book a guided tour of this playful pink Gaudi-esque mixed-use complex designed in the 1990s by the Austrian artist/architect who declared straight lines “ungodly,” but we got to admire the swirls, turrets, ramps and multi-hued columns from the bus. We couldn’t help wondering what it must be like to rent an apartment there.

The cathedral is the centrepiece of Magdeburg and the square around it is very pretty and allows uninterrupted views of the building. The original church was built in the 930s but this was destroyed and the current incarnation was built over 300 years from the 13th to 16th centuries and then heavily restored in the 19th and 20th centuries.
There is some beautiful artwork and sculpture inside and there are plenty of information boards, although almost all are in German only. I probably should have done a guided tour as I didn't even see the tomb of Otto I, the original founder of the cathedral and I'm not sure of you can climb into the towers to see them and the views so that's not very helpful really.

No matter the current devastation of the forest and the heartbreaking loss of so many spruce, beech, ash and birch trees due to the bark beetles, fungi, fire and drought, with a structured approach to the removal of the old forest and replanting of new and resilient species, this will help the park tremendously in the future.
It is not healthy for mainly one tree species to be dominant. The variety being planed will help encourage more diversity in both flora and fauna.
I praise the forestry division for all the hard work they've been doing.
I have no doubt the National Park in 20 years from now will be a very green, promising place.
Even with the damage, I found it beautiful! The ride through the remaining forest on the train up to the Brocken was breathtaking. The vistas, valleys, rivers and natural features made for a truly memorable national park experience.
I wish however that they would recognise how many international visitors come to the park in increasing numbers every year. An effort should be made to display signage in multiple main languages.

Marvelous place with an altar triptych by Lucas Cranach the Elder (side panels) and modern art in the middle section. Interesting combination of old and modern. Altars, sculptures, all these on the Unesco Heritage list. Also catacombs with a very old wooden Christ and modern stained glasses are worth visiting. Excellent experience.

Most of Lutherhaus is currently closed for construction until sometime in 2025. You can still see an exhibit called Literally Luther, however. It does a very good job explaining his life history, warts and all.

If you visit this and the nearby Panorama 1517 you will get a very thorough education on Martin Luther.

    Recommended.

This is an example of how an archaeological museum should be: massively informative without being dry, totally amenable to all ages and expertise without dumbing-down or gimmicks. The week I visited, they had a superb exhibition about Nomad rider warriors in Europe. I will be back to see what they do next and to enjoy the permanent exhibition once again.

Even if this was not an important site for the Reformation, the church would be worth seeing. It is beautifully made with great architectural details. Martin Luther is buried here.

The Garden Kingdom Dessau-Wörlitz is a culture landscape with palaces and gardens, about 112 ha or 276 acres, located around the city of Dessau. It was founded by the local ruler, who was inspired by similar British gardens and wanted to bring landmarks such as the Pantheon, the Temple of Venus, etc. to Dessau. Today the entire area is UNESCO World Heritage.

It is possible to visit most of the buildings, ride the boats and enjoy the gardens, weather permitting. It is free to walk around the area, but there is an entrance fee at most of the buildings and the boats.

A couple of large (paid) parking places are available around the area, where you will also find a number of nice restaurants.

We have visited this tower with a group of nine people.
The exhibition is really interesting and offers a lot of things to discover. This applies for smaller kids and adults alike.
We have booked a guided tour which I would recommend to not miss any highlights.
One important advise: the tower is not really heated. So make sure that you have warm cloth on during winter times.
I am sure that we will visit the tower again.
