Maddie and Chimney’s long-awaited wedding finally arrives on Thursday’s episode of 9-1-1 (ABC, 8/7c), so why isn’t the 118 in a more celebratory mood? Perhaps it has something to do with the groom suddenly going M.I.A. on one of the biggest days of his life.
Yes, 9-1-1′s wheel of fate has once again landed on Chimney, whose reason for totally ghosting his bride-to-be is… too spoilery to reveal before the episode airs. But it’s a doozy, and even though his character has already been put through the wringer countless times, actor Kenneth Choi says he never could have predicted this particular crisis.
“I’ve said to [showrunner Tim Minear] a couple of times, ‘Can’t they just be happy and loving and adorable?'” Choi tells TVLine. “And he always says, ‘Sure, but then you won’t be on the show, because how boring is that? It’s about conflict, Kenny!’ Part of me still wanted a nice, easy wedding, [so when I got the script] I kind of threw my hands up, like, ‘Oh my God, again?!’ But then the actor thing kicks in where you start to get excited because there are a lot of curveballs being thrown at you.”
In fact, the emotional episode is so jam-packed with shocking twists, fun surprises and emotional developments, Choi wishes it was a two-parter, as he’s already lamenting the footage fans won’t get to see.
“I think the first cut was an hour and 15 minutes, and they had to cut it down to 42 minutes,” he says. “They had to trim everything down. There was stuff with Buck and Eddie singing karaoke, and even that got cut out. That would have been fun. The editors had a mountain to climb with this episode, and I think they did a fabulous job.”
But while karaoke is no longer on the docket for the 118, Choi is ready to step up to the microphone, should the opportunity arise again.
“I’m an ardent shower and car singer, and I think I’m fantastic,” he says. “I don’t know if anybody else does, but when I’m in the shower, I think I’m Frank Sinatra, baby!”

Could they release some of the cuts including karaoke scene as deleted scenes?
That Buck and Eddie karaoke scene has been so heavily featured in promo stills and discussed in the many recent interviews given by Oliver Stark that for it all to end up on the cutting room floor feels like a slap in the face to Buddie fans. I adore Maddie and Chimney but am so disappointed!
Me too. chimney and Maddy have been through too much crap. I will watch this episode but if they do not fix this I will not be watching anymore. Too much unhappiness. I can think of one person they should have left in wherever they were and it’s not Chimney
That’s what I was thinking wouldn’t it be cool pit extended version on Hulu…could be way to get low people to sign up for streaming…no commercials plus extended versions—just saying
Upvoting because that’s a cool idea…and also, because DirecTV having a dispute with Nexstar means Hulu is the only way I get the show right now.
SUPER excited about the wedding! Maddie and Chim are a favorite of mine and we know that no matter what they will fight to be together!
However, to almost exclusively use Buddie karaoke stuff as the promo for 3 weeks and tease the song but tell everyone they’ll have to wait to find out what it is, only to cut it from the episode is really frustrating and baity, using Buddie stuff to get engagement and then cut it. Not cool.
I’m so excited!! Long overdue on the wedding.
#ReleaseTheMinearCut
im begging they release the karaoke scene cause if they dont i will cry
I understand they don’t want to spoil what is going on with Chimney, and probably figured that party footage was safer, but if they were going to ultimately cut Buck and Eddie singing karaoke, why was it featured SO prominently in the promos? And referenced in a few interviews, I think. That feels…icky. Let’s hope that it was cut to make room for MORE scenes of Maddie and Chimney and their families, and not a new side character…
The edit probably wasn’t done when they created the promos. It’s not unusual for episode edits to be tinkered with right up until the deadline to get it to the network for broadcast.
This makes sense, I’m just saying that I hope every minute in there is truly valuable and worthy of replacing it, you know? And the ones directly related to Maddie and Chimney will be, I’m super excited to see them FINALLY get married, *they* aren’t my concern. But I also feel like if you filmed essentially two episodes worth of content for such a special moment that involves all your characters and had to cut that much…I don’t know, find a way to get the highlights to your audience somehow!
Maybe the writers can do some sort of “flashback” stuff to include the cut footage in the next season.
I would love to see Maddie and Chimney happy. At least give them a less stressful honeymoon.
I hate the idea so many writers seem to have that happy characters/couples are boring. 7 seasons in, the majority of the fandom loves the characters enough to enjoy them being happy and not be bored by it. Even if you truly believe a character must always have conflict, that can come from so many other places than turmoil in their relationships.
ABC completely ruinedthe episode for me. Why baiting with Buddie scenes for weeks if they already knew these scenes would get cut. Way to go to pissoff an entire fandom….
Can’t wait to see the wedding! Even with the hiccups. They deserve to be happy! Team Maddie and Chimney. Also can’t wait for Tommy and Buck! Hope we get a cute wedding scene with them.
Sorry but Tommy should not be getting “extra” or special scenes in Maddie and Chimney’s wedding episode, especially when they apparently had to cut scenes of main characters for time.
I absolutely love this show and every character. I watch the reruns on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays and the new series every Thursday on ABC.
It’s about time, let them be happy for once
I would like to see them have a great wedding for a change. I’m tired of so much conflict with t those two. They are a great couple. Let someone else have a turn.
Just DO it!!
You’re Jumping The Shark with Buck’s sexual exploration.
Put Lucy with Tommy in air unit and Buck can finally have a go with dating Lucy. The fun that could be had there.
There are non boring happy couples in the world. Why can’t they at least be happy for a little while, please!!!
I hate that Chimney and Maddie have to be messed up with another problem. I know that there has to be some unexpected event. I’ll be watching.
That would be a good thing to do. Then we would at least get to see it
Why can’t Maddie & Choi be happy, make it two parts for their to see everything.
I hope Maddie and chim make it. I hope the wedding itself goes off without a hitch. I wish them both lots of luck. They have been so much, they deserve a little peace.
I just love the show. I know that Maddie and Chimney have been through a lot but you do need some suspense in it to be exciting.
I love this show but come on it’s their wedding. You let them have a beautiful wedding and then they take off on their honeymoon when the plane they are on catches fire and its up to chimney to rescue everyone or they get to their destination and things start happening. So many choices 🤗
What song played at the wedding and who sings it
I recorded the episode but haven’t watched it yet. But I am looking forward to it. I ended up getting into the show late, around season 4 or so. Maybe season 3. But thanks to repeats on USA, even though they weren’t exactly an order I was able to catch up and figure out everything. And so now I’m a big fan and whatever happens on this show gets 👍👍 from me.
I’m so ready for them to be married they have been through a lot please let them have this
I just love this show The cast are Awsome Just Love Everything about it.
