I had originally booked a different hotel and then changed here due to location and lower price. Hotel looks a bit older online so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect.

When I tried to check in early I was pleasantly surprised not only to be able to get in but to get a room on the top floor. The room did look slightly older than some of the newly renovated/built Marriott's but I found the room to be great. Sometimes the older hotels seem to have been built more sturdy and with nicer features and that is exactly what I found here. The furniture and soft goods were in great shape and everything appeared to be very clean, even in the nooks and corners that some hotels overlook. The bathroom was also absolutely spotless, no hair, no mold, no dust anywhere! I also found the bed and the bedding to be much more comfortable than other Marriott's.
All the staff I had dealt with were friendly and very helpful. The hotel also has a rooftop bar that had a great view. They also had some food as the hotel's lobby restaurant appeared to be closed. We went right when they opened for the day and there was no line. However, about an hour after it opened there was a line out the hotel front door to get into it. I'm not sure if they prioritize hotel guests or take reservations but be prepared if you plan to go.

Due to Covid no daily housekeeping which was expected and fine. The front desk had extra coffee fore me at the desk when I asked. The room felt safe and clean in the current environment and most/all guests had masks on and the front desk reminded you on the mask policy at arrival.
This was a great stay and I think I will probably choose to stay here again on another trip to San Diego

One thing you can say about traveling during the pandemic is that you can get some great hotel deals. Between work and pleasure travel i was able to achieve titanium elite status right before this trip. We were blessed with a junior suite upgrade. We learned that the hotels occupancy rate was in the teens this week. This is very sad considering the folks lives there are affected in San Diego. The staff was very friendly considering they are probably doing many jobs they aren’t used to. For example. The valet goes home at after dinner and cars are parked by the security person. No daily housekeeping as is the usually case at Marriotts everywhere. It’s more about cost cutting than it is about covid but i get it. No concierge lounge either. We had a great room but I’d say some upgrading is due. Hard to see the television from the bed. Location is great and work included parking in the rate you can’t go wrong.

Being a Marriott Bonvoy member, we were looking for a Marriott brand hotel in downtown San Diego and within walking distance of Petco park for a San Diego padres baseball game. Hotel is right across the street from Petco and parking options are very limited so we decided on a valet which the drivers are all very nice and does cost $50 a night. The front desk staff was nice and Marcel was helpful when checking in and also upgraded us to the 21st floor with a city view and being a Platinum Elite I was given a welcome gift.

Room is spacious, bed is nice and bathroom is big. I always in my reviews mentioned these Small plastic bottles which are not good for the environment. Need to go to refillable type of soaps/shampoos, etc. Room had no refrigerator as stated on the website only a beverage holding drawer which was not cold. They did give free bottle waters and coffee which we liked.

All in all, great location to Petco Park and also GASLAMP district for good places to eat and drink. On the top floor is the Altitude Sky bad with beautiful views of Petco Park and the ocean albeit very high priced drinks. One CON: Beware can get very very busy on game night and/or even a weekend night if you're coming back from an attraction like we did on a Saturday. Parking outside the hotel for valet was so ridiculous but the good valet guys took care of us as hotel guests. We will be back in the future!

I was in San Diego for a conference at the convention center and chose to stay at the Marriott Gaslamp. The service alone is worth a stay at this property. Every single hotel employee was welcoming, attentive, and made it an excellent stay.

It's in the heart of the gaslamp district, very close to the ballpark (in fact, it appeared that many people did valet here in order to go to the ballpark). Keep in mind it gets really busy in this area during game nights. The rooftop of this hotel is terrific. You get a great view of the ballpark and much of downtown SD. You don't need to be a guest to visit the rooftop, as there is a public bar. However, non hotel guests have a different elevator so that hotel guests do not have to deal with the crowds.

The rooms are a bit dated and could use a refresh. I had absolutely no issues with the rooms, though. Very clean, well maintained, and a good amount of space. Typical Marriott beds were comfortable and most of my stay was quiet. You do not get all the noise from the gaslamp, which was nice. The bathrooms are a bit on the small side, but clean.

I would also recommend stopping at the hotel restaurant, Soleil @ K for breakfast (excellent breakfast burrito) or lunch or dinner. There are more current Marriott properties in the area, but this property has the best service. I've also stayed at the Marriott Marquis and it did not live up to the hype. If you are debating between the Marquis or the Marriott Gaslamp, choose the gaslamp.

We bought a great deal on TravelZoo and the hotel was able to get our rooms on the same floor near each other and views of PetCo Park. The hotel was in the the midst of Covid but it was clean and classy. We did have trouble getting up to the rooftop deck because the line was too long and the food options were non-existent but besides that it was a great stay, The hotel manager was really nice (Parker) and made sure we were taken care of. Thanks Marriott Gas Lamp!

I travel fairly often for business and personal reasons, but I don't always provide online reviews of the places where I stay. I opted to do so in this case because my experience was great and did not match a handful of negative reviews that immediately preceded my stay. I stayed here for five days in December.

This is a great cost-effective hotel, and I felt that I got a bargain for the rate I was paying given the quality of the hotel, its location, the staff, etc. I looked at other properties before choosing to stay here, and other hotels were notably more expensive and did not offer anything more in terms of benefits or services.

The hotel has a great location. It is at the lower end of the Gaslamp District and thus close to many restaurants and bars, and it is next door to Petco Park. I had business at the convention center and the Hilton Bayfront, and I was able to walk to those meetings in only a few minutes.

My room was not the most updated room your will find at a Marriott hotel, but it certainly did the job. It had all the normal amenities, including a great work space, comfortable bed and pillows, and powerful shower, and it was clean upon arrival. The room was also quiet at night. I had no complaints with the room or hotel spaces.

The staff was very friendly but not overbearing. Things got off to a great start when I arrived to check in and was assisted quickly by Michael. Whenever I had a quick question about the local area, business center, etc., the staff was quick to assist.

This is a great hotel for those traveling for business or pleasure, and I would stay here again if I am back to San Diego soon.

I am writing to express and share my deep frustration and disappointment regarding my recent stay at one of your properties. As a loyal Silver Elite member for over 18 years, I have never encountered such a terrible experience at a Marriott hotel, especially during the holiday season, when I expected to feel at home:
1. Room Condition: The room I was assigned to was extremely outdated, with furniture that appeared worn and obsolete. The presence of dust and allergens caused severe allergies throughout our stay. Additionally, the wallpaper was torn, the chair was filthy, and the shower showed signs of rust. Furthermore, the television had poor reception. It was disheartening to have such a subpar experience, considering the premium status that this category of room should offer.
2. Valet Parking: I had specifically requested a 50% discount on valet parking, which was not honored by the reception staff. Despite providing evidence of my reservation and even sending an email prior to my arrival, there seems to be a lack of clarity regarding this matter.
3. Dry Cleaning Service: My wife availed herself of the hotel's dry cleaning service and was advised to drop off the items at the lobby before 8:30 PM. However, when we arrived at 8:35 PM, we were met with rudeness and were not able to hand over the garments. The treatment we received was exceptionally poor.
4. Late Check-Out: I had requested a late check-out due to our flight schedule the following day. Unfortunately, the response I received was an outright denial, citing an ongoing event. It is disheartening to witness a pattern of "no" as the default response without any consideration given to my loyalty and the special circumstances of my visit.

i will no return to any Marriott property, particularly due to the appalling level of service, the dismissive attitude of the staff, and the complete disregard for my expectations as a valued guest.

This is a basic Marriott hotel, very average as compared to other Marriott properties we have stayed at. The room was okay, clean, adequate for our needs. I was surprised with the small size of the T,V. screen in the room The bathroom was dated as it had an old style tub and standard shower setup as compared to newer or remodeled properties with walk-in showers. The Concierge Lounge was a disappointment below average for a Marriott hotel. I didn't care for the $50 a day valet parking charge and no in hotel self parking. All in all a standard Marriott hotel, nothing special.

Be careful. The valet siphoned nearly all the gas out of our tank— over $100 worth—and hotel did not accept responsibility

At 10:38AM we checked in our rental car with a full tank of gas. Note, the hotel is VALET ONLY, which we were aware of in advance and don’t mind so long as it’s a reputable company handling our car.

At 3pm we called from the room for our car to be pulled up and they called back to double check the claim numbers because our car keys could not be found. (We had been there a couple days and had no issues with this otherwise.) I confirmed they had the right number and gave a vehicle description.

They apparently found the car because it was there 10min later when we came down, but when we got in the car, it was on Empty—flashing a low fuel warning and a 30 mile range.

We alerted the front desk manager to the issue. She explained the valet is a 3rd party, not under their management—Ace—but they would investigate.

Now I can’t say for sure what happened to all our gas in the 4.5 hours they had it. I doubt it was a joy ride situation since it’s an eco Ford Explorer and it would have taken a few hundred miles and a few hours of driving to drain the tank to that level. So all we can assume is that the gas was siphoned during the time they had it, either by a valet (which would make sense with the keys disappearing and then reappearing) OR the parking deck where the cars are stored is not secure. Either way, this is not a secure place to valet your car and the hotel should accept some sort of responsibility since they require you use their valet in order to stay at the hotel.

In the end, we never heard back from the hotel staff after they ensured us they would “investigate” and promptly follow up. We dropped $120 to refill the tank due to gas prices in SD being over $6.00 a gallon. And we are Marriott elite members. I can only imagine the treatment guests without Marriott status would receive. We will not stay here again and would not recommend to others.

Our room had damp floors to the extent that our socks got wet just with walking in the room. We had to spread towels on the floor to be able to walk. We were too tired and exhausted to change into a new room for just one night and so did not take up on their offer to change the room as we had already made one change due to smoky smell in the first room they assigned us. I would still have been fine with this but the service staff attitude was one of doubting you rather than acknowledging, or inspecting for themselves and then solving the issue amicably. I did not feel welcome at all. I chose not to change the room and just asked them to adjust the price which they flatly refused and gave me a 1000 bonus points worth $7.

On top of that, the diverter in the bathroom was spitting half of the water in the tub instead of diverting it to the shower giving it extreme low pressure.

I will never stay at this Marriott again and would advise you to look out for other nearby hotels, even other Marriotts, but not this one.

Not really. The concierge lounge is small compared to most, and there’s just not room to have an ample breakfast offering like they have at other Marriott properties’ club lounges.

Dear Genevieve M, We do not have sofas beds in any of our guestrooms. However, a king suite is certainly large enough for us to put an additional bed in the room. Upon your arrival, we authorize all credit or debit cards for the anticipated costs of room and tax and an additional $100 per evening for incidentals. This is not a charge but rather a hold only. The actual charge is transmitted to your bank upon your departure.
