It’s been a minute since we checked in on Máximo, old and young, and Las Colinas. Actually, it’s been like 16 months in the real world, which is why it was a wise choice for the “Acapulco” Season 3 trailer to open with the exposition it did.

Máximo (Eugenio Derbez): “Hugo, do you remember where my rags-to-riches life story left off? It all started with a job as Las Colinas. I told you about my big promotion and Julia and I getting together — but there’s still so much more I haven’t told you.”

SMASH CUT TO: Season 2’s big cliffhanger moment. Oh that’s right, (old) Máximo has a grownup daughter we didn’t even know about. The trailer doesn’t really get into that storyline, but certainly the season will.

The third season of “Acapulco” premieres its first two episodes on Wednesday, May 1, 2024; new episodes will follow on each subsequent Wednesday through June 26.

Per Apple TV+, Season 3 is “time to reconcile past mistakes and exciting new beginnings.” That brings (old) Máximo (Derbez) back to a Las Colinas he no longer recognizes. Back in 1985, young Máximo (Enrique Arrizon) is still climbing the ladder at the resort.

The 10 episodes in Season 3 will introduce young Máximo to a new foil in the form of Memo’s (Fernando Carsa) sister, Dulce (Karen Rodriguez). She may look like Memo and share his mannerisms, but she is no sweet, sweet Memo. The newbie is ready to “go to war” with her boss Máximo, who is the only one at the resort that sees through her facade.

In addition to Derbez, Arrizon, and Carsa, also returning for Season 3 are cast members Damián Alcázar, Camila Perez, Vanessa Bauche, Regina Reynoso, Raphael Alejandro, Jessica Collins, Rafael Cebrián, Regina Orozco, and Carlos Corona. Rodriguez (“Shining Girls”), Jaime Camil (“Schmigadoon”). and Cristo Fernandez (“Ted Lasso”) join as recurring guest stars for Season 3.

“Acapulco,” an adaptation of the 3Pas Studios and Pantelion Films’ movie “How to Be a Latin Lover,” which also stars Eugenio Derbez in the (slightly different) role of Máximo, comes from Lionsgate Television; 3Pas is also a production company on the TV series, as are Zihuatanejo Productions and the Tannenbaum Company.

Derbez is an executive producer alongside Ben Odell, co-creator Austin Winsberg, showrunner Sam Laybourne, Kim and Eric Tannenbaum, Jaime Eliezer Karas, Jason Wang, and Paul Presburger. Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman created the series with Winsberg.
