Actor. He was an American film and television actor who appeared as a one-episode guest performer in numerous television series. Born Samuel Gardner Melville, his career started in 1966 with a small film part in the film "Smell the Honey" and a television guest appearance on "That Girl." He played the role of Officer Mike Danko in 93 episodes of "The Rookies," a television series of the 1970s. In this series, his role was the husband of "Charlie's Angel" fame Kate Jackson. During the long-playing series "Gunsmoke," he had various roles in ten episodes. From 1985 to 1987, he played various roles opposite Kate Jackson in eight episodes of "The Scarecrow and Mrs. King." He had three episodes in "Dallas" in 1986, "Hawaii Five-O" during the late 1960s, and the "Dukes of Hazzard" in 1984. His film career consisted of the role of Morgan Earp in "Hour of the Gun" in 1967 and Dave in the 1968 film "The Thomas Crown Affair." His last film role was Senator Berkeley in "The Assassin," released posthumously in 1990. He was married twice and divorced once.
