What travelers are saying
- Daniel SBrisbane214 contributionsThe Fortress is a must do activity when visiting Salzburg. There is a lot of history of the Fortress, and the role it has played over hundreds of years. It also talks about how it has expanded over that time, and the various occupants.
There are a few different sections to view, which all provide the history of the location. It is well laid out. The Fortress itself is fairly compact, but do expect lots of walking on cobblestones and stone floors.
There are amazing views over Salzburg in all directions, being able to see the old city walls in the distance too.Written April 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. pretty restaurants and for any Sound of Music fan it’s a must see destination 😀Written April 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The gardens are amazing, and we spent about an hour wandering around. A lot of work has gone into maintaining the gardens.
We visited as a family, and the kids enjoyed the experience too.Written April 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We took advice of other reviewers and picked up no 5 bus ... last stop is the cable car station. The cable car is packed but very smooth. A must if you are in Salzburg. Cable cars go every 30 minutes .. on the hour and half hour.Written January 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stirling BOttawa, Canada704 contributionsThe Salzburg Cathedral has been around for 300 years and was where Mozart was baptized so there is a lot of history within the walls. We took the Dom Quartier tour which included entrance to the Cathedral but from the second floor right by the massive organ. The church is airy and imposing, but filled with light. There is also a small museum that has some beautiful religious artifacts.Written January 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Martin D2 contributionsThe water games are unique. Loved them. Take care of your mobile phone (you will get -though not soaking- wet) )and go for the water experience.Written April 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Heather M27 contributionsAn amazing visit with Max as an excellent guide. Wrap up warm as it’s obviously cold but lots of steps take you a mile inside. High recommended.
Also worth treating yourself to coffee and strudel at the top of the gondola. Best coffee we’ve had on our travels was here!Written September 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AttitudeAdjusterGillingham, UK1,042 contributionsEasy to find cemetary next to the funicular station. Lovely to wander around the graves, sadly I was there New Year's Day so the catacombs were closed but it's well worth a visit.Written January 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JElizJAlsager, UK28 contributionsWe took the bus, easy to get there and buses were very frequent, clean and inexpensive. Great audio tour and the water features were wonderful to watch. We got there at 10.30am and it wasn't too busy. If you want to get soaked you can, but for most you get a tiny spray of water on you. Took advantage of it being such a nice day to wander around the gardens and to view the pavilion from The Sound of Music and had a cooling drink in the cafe. We didn't bother going into the Schloss as our main purpose of visiting was to view the water features. I would strongly recommend.Written June 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
