We were taken by mini bus through Salzburg, our driver ‘Walter’
pointed out lots of buildings and had lots of interesting facts for us. We made our way into the Bavarian Mountains, saw the hill The Sound of Music was filmed on, stooped half way up a mountain to take pictures of the famous ‘Eagles Nest’.
Then we had over an hour tour of a salt mine, our children age 13-15 all enjoyed this. We stopped on the way home for a beer and apple strudel. Brilliant 4 hours.

It was unexpected fun and an amazing experience!
It was our first time in a salt mine. The tour was interesting and the tour guide was very informative and funny. 😊
They have translated it to a few leagues, and soon they gonna add Hebrew translation!

הסיור היה מדהים!
המדריך היה מאוד מעניין ומצחיק. ☺️
הסיור מתורגם לכמה שפות, ובקרוב הם הולכים להוסיף תרגום בעברית!

We took the public bus 840 from Mirabelleplatz to the Saltmine. Much cheaper than paying for a tour company! About a 45 minute ride for maybe 9e, cant quite remember. Bus drops you off across the street from the mine. The tour itself was pretty good. After dressing in coveralls, you take a funny little train down into the mine, then slide down a wooden rail to get further down. The tour is in German, but you are able to get an English audio guide. There isnt a lot to see, but you do get some interesting information. My 18 yr old daughter really enjoyed it as well.

What could have been a great tour turned into a big disappointment. Upon arriving at the salt mine, you are given coveralls to put on to protect your clothing and audio boxes in your language of choice to listen to the narrative. You are then put on an open air train to whisk the groups into the salt mine. Unfortunately, our English speaking group with audio was combined with a German speaking group with a group leader and no audio. This combined group was so large that we couldn't see the displays nor could we hear our audio over the talking of the German speaking guide. It was a waste of time and money. Unless you have assurances that this will be a small group with on the same page, I would not book this trip.

We went on the ALL DAY tour including Eagle's Nest, Berchtesgaden, Salt Mines, and Lake Konigsee. Amazing sights!

Here is how it worked:
We got the complimentary hotel pick up from Panorama tours (this was not included when we booked through Viator, but we asked Panorama tours to pick us up and they said yes). We got on the bus and headed to Berchtesgaden. Here, the tour split and half the group went to the salt mines while we went with the other half to Eagle's Nest.

Eagle's Nest was beautiful! We had great views, which I heard can depend on the weather. It was a little chilly on the mountain, so I would recommend bringing a sweater or warm jacket. We spent the time up here walking around on our own. Not much history, as the house is now a restaurant. We were unable to see the bunkers or underground tunnels. THere was a wall of pictures with history (in German) but that was it. The views were incredible though!!!

After Eagle's Nest, we met with the salt mine group and went to the town of Berchtesgaden. It was bigger than I thought, and very cute! Lots of restaurants with outdoor seating and our guide mentioned around 36 statues to try to find, but impossible in the hour we have there. At this point, the 1/2 day tours were completed so while they left to go back to Salzburg, my husband and I along with one other person doing the all day tour went to the salt mines.

The salt mines are not great for adults, but awesome for kids. It seemed like a Disney attraction. The slides were fun and the history was interesting, but I will say 1 salt mine is enough for the trip. NO pictures in the salt mines, but of course you can pay for 3 photos that they take (like Six Flags) for EURO after the tour ends. After this, the bus came back with the afternoon group and we got on and headed to Lake Konigsee.

Lake Konigsee was very pretty. We took a 15 minute hike uphill to see a great view of the lake. By this point, we were pretty exhausted, so we headed back to the bus and stopped only to buy souvenirs.

At this point, the tour bus went back to Berchtesgaden. This was nice for us to see the town again and do shopping instead of eating, but we were hoping to spend a big chunk of time in Berchtesgaden rather than two shorter visits. After our time there, we went back to Salzburg. A long but enjoyable day.

Our tour guide, Andre, was great fun. Off the bus, he was very strict about timing and was NOT happy with those who did not return on time (neither was the rest of us waiting on the bus). However, the second he got on the bus and on the mike, he was back in business being friendly and silly for the enjoyment of those of us who were being great customers :)

I enjoyed the full day trip. Definitely do this if you want to see both Lake Konigsee and Eagle's Nest

I swear my title is not an exaggeration! And if you click on my profile, you'll see I don't say things like this very often!
First (after a late departure!), the tour went to the gift shop at the base of Hitler's Eagle's Nest - I understand the 'if we forget, we're destined to repeat' thing, but I think it's distasteful to visit Hitler's house, at the very least they should warn you that that's what you'll be doing (in fairness to Panorama, perhaps they do, but Viator, through whom I booked, do not).
Next, the tour actually went to the Salt Mines, our small group had to join a large group of French kids and had to listen through an audio tour because the main tour was conducted in French! The Salt Mines themselves were quite fun, but not worth the trip.
Then, we went to some little town (the guide probably mentioned its name but didn't say what, if anything, was important about it, so I don't remember) where we were told to just walk around for a while, it was raining and many of us said we didn't have rain gear on us, the guide didn't bother to ask if we'd prefer to take a driving tour instead!
When we arrived back in Salzburg it was still raining, the guide refused to take anyone back to their hotel - sure it's not actually her job, but a smart guide would have offered to do it for a few euros!
And after all of that, the guide had the gall to ask for tips!

After having experienced a nightmare the day before with the same tour company our experience to the Salt Mines and Eagles nest was equally as disappointing. The company "Panorama" appears to be more concerned with how much money they can make versus the comfort of the tourist. The seats on the tour bus were extremely cramped. We were taken to the Salt Mines and dropped off and had approximately 1 hr to do the tour. The tour wasn't clear that you don't actually go to Eagles nest. You park at the lower part of the hill and have a view. The eagles nest tour is a different tour. While parked at the bottom of the hill we were told to get off the bus where we were then directed to meet the tour guide inside the building. We were shuffled into a cramped souvenir shop with 70 other tour participants into an area smaller than the bus and were suppose to hear a 10 minute speech where he points out places of interest on a map. You can't see what he is pointing to or hear him do the the other shoppers from other tours crammed into the shop. Panorama Tours was the biggest disappointment of our 3 week stay in Europe!!!

Again we chose Panorama Tours in Salzburg. This time for the Bavarian Alps & Saltmine tour. We were the only 2 going on
4th March afternoon, as it's the off-season but did they cancel? NO they took us in a minibus - how good is that? It was really interesting! We dressed in miners 'uniforms' and the mine tour was really worthwhile. We had to join a German speaking group as we were the only English speakers but there were loads of 'listening points' in various languages so we didn't suffer! Our Panorama driver Carlos was lovely and very informative on the drive into the mountains - which owing to the snowstorm meant we couldn't see much but that's not the fault of the driver - blame the weather - as we usually do in England haha! I wouldn't recommend this trip for people with young children as there is a lot of standing around looking at things and listening to history etc but the 2 slides down to the different levels are brilliant (if you're not up for it you can walk down!) We took a Spanish lady down with us 2 brave Brits as her husband was scared!! (Rule Britannia and all that and we're both well over 50!!) We had time for a coffee in Berchtesgaden afterwards - anything to get out of the snow!! I won't tell you everything about the trip as it would spoil it for you. Go and see for yourselves! x

Three of us (adults in our 40s, 50s, 60s) did the 2.00pm tour which was pre booked at a cost of €50 each. We boarded our bus at the pick up point Mirabellplatz beside St Andra Church Salzburg. When we got to the mines we where given overalls to put on, take off your heavy coats and leave bags behind as the overall will not fit over thick clothing. We boarded a open train and a photo was taken, we started our journey down the mine on the train which you had to keep your hands in from the sides. We got off the train and slide down a wooden slide another photo taken, we then where in pitch dark to go on open boat across the lake and see the light show. There is a bit of walking also to be done. At the end we where taken back up on a lift to board the train to bring us back to the surface and return our overalls. You can buy your photos for €5 each. Over all the three of us really enjoyed this tour.

We would say this tour would not be for very young children /adults who are afraid of the dark, heights, have limited mobility and who are afraid of enclosed spaces.

Loved the thrill of visiting the Salt Mines . The steep slides were exciting inside the mines ! Be prepared for the cold inside the mines as they take you deep down to the mines and the place is very cold . The guides at the mines were very informative and the tour was well organized. Lighting effects inside the cave also was good.
