The Sacramento Zoo is a beauty. I obtained tickets online, and the zoo has its parking as well. A dinosaur theme was ongoing, so it was nice to have a different type of zoo visit.
There's many beautiful animals, ranging from lions to birds, and the Zoo is a very big one as well, which makes the visit nice and enjoyable. I'll be visiting back soonHelpful 3Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 0 - 1468113Jan 9, 2024
We came on a weekday, so the zoo was pretty empty. There were no feeding time today, but it was still fun. The staffs are really nice and they will help you with any questions you have. Order the ticket ahead will get you a cheaper deal.
You will find a good varieties of animals in the Sacramento zoo including lion, Tiger, cheetah, snakes, birds, monkeys, etc. They also have some real size dinosaur model which my son was so amazed of.
Overall I recommend this for family fun and dates!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 28, 2024
What a cool zoo to visit, we came here to see the extinct exhibit for my birthday present C: When we started walking around one of the employees "Lynn" became our private docent (so cool) see picture. He showed around the Zoo that had life like dinosaurs that actually move, holographic images of extinct animals, huge black light pictures, and very cool string lights. We also got to ride On a Merry go round :D "Been a minute since I've been on one of those" the whole experience took us a bout 2 hours.
The zoo has a nice gift shop and for children who's ears are sensitive they has proper ear protection that you can borrow at no cost to you. This exhibit goes until March so if you want to check it out now is the time.Helpful 22Thanks 7Love this 23Oh no 0 - Apr 1, 2024
We took our 10 month old here and she loved it. Some of the animals weren't out due to it being cold and kind of rainy but we still had a good time. The cafe was surprisingly a hit. As far as food at zoos go, Sacramento zoo had a great selection and tasted great.

Half of the cages were empty and the rest only had one or two animals in them. No elephants, no tigers, no Penguins or Pelicans or anything like that. Mostly animated dinosaurs. The worst thing about it is the signs are very confusing and very minimal so you're basically walking around in circles trying to figure out how to get to the next area. Everyone we spoke to complained about the same thing said that they were lost. But they do give you a map at the door, a map of all the dinosaurs.
I've been to a lot of zoos and this is by far the very worst one I've ever seen. Also some of the animals looked quite skinny and not well taken care of. Don't waste your money.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Sep 21, 2023
Loved visiting this zoo!
It helps to do online tickets in advance so that you pay a better fee as compared to the day of.
Parking is plenty.
They have lot of animals. The giraffes are amazing. Feeding is an experience worth having. The lioness was magnificent. They also have several life-like dinosaur models which are a thrill to look at and experience.
The reptile house was something we didn't totally expect to be that cool. The frogs and snakes are a visual pleasure.
Staff is very helpful & knowledgeable. They also have a train ride around the zoo.
Not just kids but adults had a blast.
Totally will visit this place again and again.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 5, 2024Updated review
Still love our wonderful SacZoo! The docents do a wonderful job offering interesting info and I have always found the grounds to be clean and well maintained. Tonight we went to see the "UNEXTINCT" Exhibit that is on display at night from 5:30-9:00 PM on select days through March 2024. It was very cool!!! We loved all of the parts that had projected animals wandering around and acting naturally (exhibits 2, 6 & 8). The screen shows were pretty neat too and made the park feel like a spooky fun party. There were a couple of spots that didn't use screens and that was a bummer because you couldn't see the projections well at all (exhibits 9 & 10). The neon bamboo and string forest were way cool and now I have a New Year's goal of making my backyard look just as cool. Thanks for bringing another cool adventure to my family, Sac Zoo!

Jun 5, 2021Previous reviewStill a great place to visit--clean, well maintained, and a decent number of exhibits for such a small footprint. I love the new cheetahs. The baby giraffe is adorable. And the addition of the meerkats awhile ago has been awesome; they are always active and at the perfect eye-level for little visitors. Visiting the Sac Zoo is a staple activity for our family and is great educational and economic fun.
May 29, 2019Previous reviewThis small zoo is the perfect place to spend a few hours, especially on a cloudy day (the animals always seem more active!). If you have a toddler, this is an even greater place, particularly if you get a membership! Then you can come and go for a couple of hours at a time and not feel pressured to get a full day's money's worth!
Some animals you'll see include flamingoes, giraffes, zebras, chimpanzees, orangutans, and kangaroos. They have some jungle cats and a ton of birds. The lemurs are fun to watch, as well.
It's small, but has plenty of shade, is reasonably well maintained, has a restaurant (pretty expensive as is typical), and a new playground area that is currently being relocated and built (July 2018). It is a great place for kids and is always calm and quiet if you arrive close to opening. You can also bring your own food and drinks to save money.Jul 27, 2018Previous reviewThis small zoo is the perfect place to spend a few hours, especially on a cloudy day (the animals always seem more active!). I wouldn't expect Sacramento to maintain a large zoo similar to big cities. Bottom line: Oakland is a much better quality where you can spend all day there with the kids but Sacramento has a cute zoo that covers the basics. They have a carousel and train ride. Some animal feedings. I think the red panda and the Lion are the top favorites just because you can get up nice and close. The snow leopard came out to say hi as well. Otherwise a couple okapi and the rest are less memorable. There are some workers/volunteers that enthusiastically share about some of the animals.

Pretty small zoo compared to the ATL zoo. The Sac Zoo is conveniently located in a large park with Fairytale Town and Funderland Amusement Park. Three spots within walking distance of one another make the zoo ideal for families, especially younger kids.
One thing I noticed was the many dinosaurs scattered all around the zoo making dino noises. I thought it was strange and would have preferred seeing the actual animals instead of fake dino models.
Parking: Not hard. Tons of free street parking in the park that is shared. There are a couple of parking lots within the park too, but we found parking directly across from the Zoo which was way better on a hot day!
TDLR; not worth $26 admission ticketsHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jun 13, 2023
This is not a massive zoo; however, it is the perfect size for my toddlers. They enjoy gazing upon the live size interactive Dino's. They love riding the train and feeding the giraffe. They are ecstatic when they are playing on the playground.
With the annual membership, it is well worth the multiple trips of mental stimulation for my kids.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
