Ryan Shaver chokes up as he bids farewell to KARE 11 - Bring Me The News Skip to main content

Sat near to his father, Ryan Shaver said goodbye to KARE 11 after wrapping up his last newscast on Wednesday night.

The sports anchor and reporter starts a new job next week at Twin Cities Orthopedic, where he'll be a digital video/social media specialist.

It's a move he said he's taking because he and his wife want to start a family, but in doing so he'll no longer be working alongside his father, the long-running news anchor Randy.

And you know parents, they never stop embarrassing their kids, with Randy referring to Ryan on-air as "yah-yah," the name his younger brother used to call him, as he said goodbye by sharing a picture of the two of them in the studio.

As the camera cut to Ryan, he was choked up as he tried to introduce his last sportscast.

"I've loved every single second here," he said, before adding: "What I don't love is that all three of our local teams lost tonight – that's coming after the break."

"It's been such a memorable and special four years at my dream job," Ryan wrote on Facebook. "Getting to share the air with my hero has been everything I hoped for and more."

Among those paying tribute was Randy Shaver's anchor partner Julie Nelson.
