Sports anchor Ryan Shaver is leaving KARE 11
KARE 11 sports reporter Ryan Shaver is off to pastures new, announcing he will be leaving the Twin Cities NBC affiliate.
Shaver, the son of long-serving KARE 11 news anchor and former sports anchor Randy Shaver, announced on Monday evening that he's taken a job at Twin Cities Orthopedics.
His last day on air with KARE will be July 19, with his new role starting on July 22.
At TCO he'll be a digital video/social media specialist, with Shaver explaining on his social media pages that he's making the move because he wants to start a family.
Shaver, who got married this past November, said "the TV business makes having a family a challenge, and I want to be around as much as possible."
He said that becoming a sports anchor at KARE 11, following in his father's footsteps, was his "lifelong dream."
"I've witnessed some amazing things, but my favorite memories will always be Friday nights with my dad. Getting to host Prep Sports Extra with him was a BIG check on my bucket list, but it's not the only thing I'll miss," he wrote.
"Dinners together in between shows. Joking around on set. A simple smile as I walk by the desk every day – it's the little things sometimes."
Shaver joined KARE 11 in June 2015, having previously been a sports anchor at KIMT News 3 in Mason City, Iowa.
"Without KARE, I never move back to Minnesota and meet my wife. Inside that building, I've grown into the man I am today."
Shaver's new role will keep him in the sporting world, with Twin Cities Orthopedics having a base at the Vikings' Eagan campus (it's called the TCO Performance Center, after all).
His dad meanwhile has recently beaten cancer for the second time, and continues his role at KARE 11 and charitable exploits through the Randy Shaver Cancer Fund.
