Philippe Clement injury update sounds potential Ryan Jack Rangers career death knell

Ryan Jack’s injury situation didn’t exactly fill Rangers fans with confidence Philippe Clement could renew his contract.

The Scotland international midfielder, 32, has seen the last few seasons of his Rangers career interrupted with a calf injury which continues to hold him back.

With the final months of Jacko’s Ibrox contract ticking down with the player on the medical table, the signs are certainly ominous.

Now, Philippe Clement’s latest Ryan Jack update appears to all but sound the death knell for the midfielder’s Rangers career.

Philippe Clement Ryan Jack injury update

Speaking ahead of the clash with Dundee, Philippe Clement was asked about the situation with Ryan Jack at Rangers.

Jack hasn’t been seen since the Scottish Cup victory over Ayr United with injury once again disrupting things at a crucial moment in the season for the midfielder.

Clement has explained it remains unclear if the player will be back this season with Rangers now looking at alternative approaches to what has been a long-term issue.

“That’s a difficult one,” said Clement, when asked if Rangers fans could see Ryan Jack this season.

“He was on a good way back last week but then he felt again a bit so we are looking now other solutions to get him back. So we lost some time there so we will see.

“It’s week-by-week looking at the situation and looking for solutions.

“It’s a problem with his calves and it’s something that’s already there for years, so it’s something that needs to be solved well.

“I am also not a manager who wants to get a player back for one game and then he’s out for three months or he has a risk for the rest of his career, that I don’t want also.”

Rangers midfielder heading for Scotland heartbreak

The situation backs up suggestions last week that Rangers are only set to offer one of the six out of contract players at the club a new contract.

With that looking like John Lundstram, it means the likes of Ryan Jack look set to move on and it will be the end of an era should the midfielder be released.

Jack joined Rangers from Aberdeen in 2017 and at times has shown his clear quality in the Ibrox midfield.

A regular in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad too, injury heartbreak kept Ryan Jack out of the Euro 2020 squad and it looks to have hampered his chances this time around at Euro 2024 too.

It’s a real shame for Ryan Jack and we really feel for the midfielder, who has made an almighty contribution to Rangers over 210 appearances for the club.
