Would you live a lie to hold onto the one you love?

Dean and Jason are best friends, like brothers since boyhood, now architecture students and college roommates. They've always had each other's back, but when one walks in on the other with another man, everything changes. How do you explain to your best friend that he's the one you've always wanted, that until now your life has been a lie?

Desperation and shame are two dirty words that run through Jason's veins. He carries the scars from a wayward priest who stole his innocence and left him shattered. Meanwhile for years he's watched Dean pursuing woman after woman, as his own heart slowly breaks.

When their world blows apart, they learn the powerful bond between them has more fire than either understood. Can two broken souls find the light in their darkness and come together to make a whole, or will sins of the past be forever unforgiven?

Love is love
Jason and Dean are best friends and have been since they were kids. They do everything together. They make it through growing up in Boise, Idaho. They head to college together as architecture students in Utah. They are roommates. Best mates. They have dreams of having their own Company where they can build and create together. Who could have imagined that there could be more? That they could want and have more? One of them has always wanted more but he keeps his secret out of fear of losing his best friend and confronting the sins and demons of his past. And then he gets caught with his pants down. Secrets could shatter the foundation of their friendship. Or perhaps they can discover that Love is Love. I love Ruth's writing, always so creative and tackling difficult subjects and human experiences. She honors these men and builds this story from friendship to so much more. Open your mind and heart because love is love and it conquers all.

"There’s a part of me that wants to give up. I’m so tired of Earth’s gravity pulling me down when all I want to do is fly far away."

"Little did we know back then that we already had the blueprint etched in our hearts for our future. Falling in love hadn’t been in the original design, but time and experience had taught us that inspired revisions should be a gift to embrace."

What an amazing story this is! Dean and Jason stole my heart! It's an extremely emotional journey that pulls on your heartstrings enters your soul and I think this story will stay with me forever. It deals with first love, best friends, faith, courage, soulmates, patience, acceptance and most of all unconditional love. A tremendous amount of research went into the writing of Unforgiven and I can't even imagine how heart wrenching it must have been. You will laugh, you will cry but most of all you will have a different perspective on recovering from a tormented past that is so well written and beautifully presented in a way that takes your breath away. This is a story that definitely is a must read. Dean and Jason will stay with me for a long time to come and they will be extremely hard to top! This is at the top of my list for 2016 reads!

I am a sucker for a friends to lovers M/M romance!
Ruth Clampett did a great job with her first story in this genre.

Jason and Dean, longtime best friends, both with a curiosity about each other.
Once they give into that curiosity, it gets STEAMY, and you can really feel the chemistry between the two men.

I did enjoy this book, and the story kept me engrossed throughout it's entirety.
What kept it from being a 5 Star? Dean's character in the beginning.
Some of his dialogue towards Jason, or inner thoughts bothered me a bit.
But, the second half of the book was written beautifully, and it was a solid 4 Stars!

I'm so glad to see new authors taking the leap into writing M/M, it's bringing so many new readers to a great genre!

****SLIGHT SPOILERS BELOW that could be
TRIGGERS for some readers****

Heads up for fans of M/M books, this did include some M/F sex scenes.
I know many long time readers of M/M stories don't usually care for this.
For me personally, I do not mind them, as long as it helps the story move forward.
The M/F scenes in this one seemed to move Jason and Dean closer to realizing that they were truly craving each other.

There is also some triggers throughout the story. Sexual Abuse by a Priest, Depression, Self Harm.
At times heartbreaking to read, but adds so much to this beautiful story.

. . . . Words have kind of left me. My heart is so full of hurt, sadness, anger and of course, love, so much love. I fought with the rating on this, but in the end, I am a total mess, all the feels, good, bad and downright ugly and still floating around and leaving me in a bit of a funk, therefore, this deserves nothing less than 5 stars.

When I saw the teaser for this come across my blog, I was like "YES! I need this!" and somehow convinced my bestie, Ang from PNR Book Lover Reviews to buddy read with me (she will be thinking twice next time lol).

Dual POV normally aren't my fav, it's so easy to get lost and forget whose head you are in if it's not written well. This was not an issue, Ruth's writing style is incredible. You feel every little (or big) emotion these men go through.

Jason (JJ) and Dean have been best friends pretty much forever, only Jason's feelings have always been more than just friendship, he has been secretly in love with Dean all along.

Ashamed and damaged from things from his past that has truly messed with his head and his attraction to men, Jason tries hiding his true self and his true desires by acting like the biggest playboy going around. That's until one night at a party Dean walks in on him and Roman (aka douchebag.)

Dean is straight, like an arrow straight and assumed Jason is just as straight as he is. Walking in on a guy giving JJ head leaves Dean confused, jealous, angry and more worrying to himself, turned on.

While these two explore their new found feelings, and boy does their exploring get hot enough to melt your kindle and leave you heading for a cold shower, they also tackle some really hard subjects and obstacles. This story takes on a Very angsty, bumpy and brutally heartbreaking real and raw road that will leave you crying, from both gut-wrenching sadness to over the moon happiness, cursing, falling in love to growling at your kindle, and that rollercoaster of feels is totally on repeat.

Without giving too much away, this story will take you on a journey that you won't be forgetting in a hurry. Jason and Dean are both strong, courageous, real characters that show you, no, makes you feel that Love is Love is Love and love will always have your back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written

This book was so well written, heartbreaking but uplifting as JJ got his dream in the end. The journey Dean goes on to understand his feelings about himself through his bi awakening, whilst supporting JJ through his trauma and giving him what he needs until their eventual HEA, was fabulous. Serious trigger warnings for childhood abuse, but really well explored on how guilt and blame is felt and handled by the abused and how indoctrined church parents not only handle their children being gay but with denial of priesthood abuse of children. 5 star read.

5.0 out of 5 stars challenging, wonderful. poignant story about falling in love, and loving unconditionally
Reviewed in Australia on March 12, 2017
This is my first book that I've read by Ruth Clampett. I have no idea why I haven't read others from her, its something that I fully intent to rectify.
The novel was at times sad and very moving, though for the most part I found it beyond wonderful and definitely uplifting. The overall theme was about unconditional love.
Synopsis briefly:
Jason and Dean, two childhood best friends go to Uni of Utah together studying to become architects.
Jason is gay, in the closet and desperately in love with his best friend Dean.
Dean is straight & oblivious to Jason's awakening sexuality and the depth of Jason 's love for him, though Dean does love Jason- its platonic, brotherly and stems from their years as best friends.
Jason has been the childhood victim of unreported sexual abuse, which impacts on his ability to fully accept that there is nothing wrong with him being gay. He has unresolved issues relating to accepting his sexuality, self worth and is fearful of Dean finding out about his sexuality and his childhood abuse.
One night, in their final year at Uni, Dean walks in on Jason and another man in an sexually explicit situation, which opens Dean's eyes to the fact that his best friend is gay, something that Jason had hidden from him for years.
What follows is at times, an angry, sad, difficult and wonderful journey for the two men where they navigate Dean's angry acceptance of Jason being gay, the impact the childhood sexual abuse has on Jason as an adult which overflows in a variety of challenging ways and the awaking sexuality of Dean as he realizes that he is bisexual and attracted to his best friend.
The novel takes us through both Dean's personal journey as his love for Jason changes from childhood best friend to life time partner, his evolving relationship with Jason is at times very bruising, angry and at times shallow, and Jason's side where he is not only dealing with the backlash of his childhood abuse which is raw and sad and at times self destructive, we also watch the struggle he has with his overwhelming love for Dean, which is unrequited for some time.
It was a moving, poignant story that had me sitting up to finish it in one go. Wonderfully written in 1st POV ( both Jason and Dean)
Well worth reading, though triggers are there for those that might find some issue with childhood sexual abuse.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sweet, romantic and a deliciously red hot novel that I highly recommend.

OMG!! This was hands down one of the hottest books that I have ever read. It was so hot that I felt as though I was on fire whilst reading it, especially the first half of the story, which was off the charts smokin' hot. Not only was "Unforgiven" insanely erotic, it was also a gorgeous tale of friends to lovers M/M romance. Ruth Clampett did good with this novel.

The story centres around childhood best friends Dean and JJ (Jason) and the realisation and acceptance of their sexuality and true feelings for one another. There was also an issue from JJ's past that the couple had to deal with together, which added an extra layer of emotion to the story. The journey that Dean and JJ go through together made a sensitive and heartwarming read that I loved. The first part of story was very much focused on Dean and JJ's exploration of their sexual desires. This part had me running for a cold shower. I had no idea that M/M sex scenes could be that sexy!! This book is definitely Ruth's hottest one yet. If you love steamy action, this will not disappoint.

As for the second half, things got a lot more serious and challenging as Dean and JJ had to deal with how their new relationship had made them feel. Confusion, shame, jealousy all played a part and at times my heart broke for the boys, especially JJ. The pair had so many emotions to work through and understand before they could truly accept their new found love. Dean and JJ's story has touched my heart and I found myself rooting for their relationship every step of the way.

This was my first M/M story but I'm certain that it won't be my last. Ruth Clampett has delivered a sweet, romantic and a deliciously red hot novel that I highly recommend.

Emotional Hot Hot Hot read.

OMG just still coming down from reading this book, this is a first M/M book read for me and from this Author also, its not my genre i normally read, but reading the blurb it was hot so i thought i would give this a go and WOW so glad i did, what a raw emotional hot hot hot book this was,it was a rollocoaster of a journey for Dean and Jason (JJ).

Dean and Jason are best friends from a very young age, they are at college together and share a flat together, they play hard and party harder so when Dean catches Jason with a guy it rocks his world and he can't come to terms with his bestie being gay. This book had me hooked from the begining with the amazing story about two friends and how they coped with one being guy.

Jason had a abusive past from a priest that had me reeling with what happened to him at a young age,but Dean's compassion for his friend helped Jason through his problems. This is a strong story about who you fall in love with, which is not always who you think that is going to be.

This story was Intense, emotional and one of the most passionate books i have read in along time, there was alot of nail biting hot sex between Dean and JJ that had me hooked all the way through till the end.I was fasinated with these two characters and Ruth puts you through the wringer with this story, and dosen't let you go until the very end.

I loved Ruth's writting and how she got me hooked into Dean and JJ's world, i am a emotional reck after finishing this book in one go as couldn't put this down until i had devoured it whole,i am simply blown away.
