The VFS-Royal Roads University Degree Pathway

Vancouver Film School (VFS) and Royal Roads University (RRU) have partnered to create an exciting and accelerated degree pathway where students can obtain both a VFS advanced diploma and a Royal Roads University bachelor’s degree in as little as two years.

About The Program

What is the VFS-RRU Degree Pathway?

Graduates from VFS’s one-year 3D Animation & Visual Effects; Acting for Film & Television; Animation Concept Art; Classical Animation; Digital Design; Film Production; Game Design; Programming for Games, Web & Mobile; and Writing for Film, Television & Games programs are eligible to transfer into the third year of the Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communication (BAPC) at RRU.

The RRU program is delivered in two formats:

  • as an accelerated one-year, on-campus model
  • as a two-year blended model incorporating online learning with two short on-campus residencies

After completing this educational pathway, international students are also eligible to apply for a post-graduation work permit.

Applicants would need to submit an unofficial copy of their transcript showing the marks so far. Successful applicants would receive a conditional offer of acceptance and would need to submit an official transcript to RRU on completion of the VFS program.

  • RRU BAPC two-year blended program starts in the spring.

  • No, these are full-time programs that follow a specific profile.
  • Alumni who have taken one of the VFS programs outlined in the agreement prior to the effective date are eligible to apply through the current agreement. If there were any differences to the courses/curriculum in the VFS program when the alumni completed the program they would be considered under standard application requirements.

  • Students enrolled in the 2 year blended program can still work full time while completing their studies. Students can expect to spend 15-20 hours per week on course work although this can vary depending on study styles and course workload. Students will be required to attend two 2 week residencies and will not be able to work during this time.
  • Students in the 1 year on-campus cohort can work but it is not recommended to work more than 16 hours per week due to the intensive workload of the program.
