Wondering when The Mandalorian Season 3 is going to drop on Disney+? You’re not alone! It’s been nearly a year since the second season debuted, and fans have been anxious to hear when the series will be returning.

At Disney Investor Day at the end of 2020, Disney confirmed that they were expanding the Stars Wars Universe. And we got pretty excited about the Obi-Wan Kenobi series! (Which we also learned was going to see a return from Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader!) But let’s stay on topic….

The event also announced that The Mandalorian Season 3 was already renewed despite the fact that the second season hadn’t even aired yet.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Filming

As of the beginning of August 2021, we know filming on the upcoming Boba Fett spin-off had officially wrapped. And we learned that filming on the third season hadn’t officially begun yet. Pedro Pascal (aka The Mandalorian himself) has been filming the HBO series The Last of Us in Canada. However, his absence won’t hold up production once things begin.

“We never have to wait on Pedro,” co-star Giancarlo Esposito said – referencing the fact that Pedro could also record The Mandalorian’s lines after filming.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Release Date

Fans originally expected that Season 3 would be premiering ahead of the 2021 holiday season, however that news was actually in reference to the Boba Fett spin-off which will premiere roughly around that time.

The good news? We’ll have some more Star Wars action coming to our small screens in December 2021. The bad news? The premiere of The Book of Boba Fett being in 2021 likely means that The Mandalorian Season 3 won’t arrive until sometime in early/mid-2022 at the soonest.

Stay tuned to FanBolt for updates on the release date – we’ll share the news as soon as we hear it!

The Book of Boba Fett

Updated October 6, 2021

Disney has confirmed that Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett will premiere on Disney+ December 29, 2021. The announcement came along with the image below, showing Boba Fett in Jabb’s Palace. If the scene looks familiar to you, it’s because it mirrors the post-credits scene that first teased the series at the end of The Mandalorian Season 2.

The Mandalorian Cast

Before The Mandalorian Season 2 finale aired, fans assumed that Pedro Pascal would reprise his lead role. And Pascal’s stunt double, Brendan Wayne, has confirmed this on Instagram.

And likewise, we all hope that Baby Yoda (still can’t get behind calling him Grogu) will return as well.

Other possible characters returning include bounty hunter boss Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), and Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff).

We can also safely assume that Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) will be returning as well. As Giancarlo has made a number of comments about Season 3 in recent interviews.

Characters that aren’t coming back? We can safely say Cara Dune (Gina Carano) won’t be returning for The Mandalorian Season 3. After a series of offensive posts on social media, Disney let Gina Carano go from the series.

“I don’t really see Disney as characterizing itself as left-leaning or right-leaning, yet instead of standing for values,” said Disney CEO Bob Chapek. “Values that are universal. Values of respect. Values of decency. Values of integrity and values of inclusion.”

Will There Be A Mandalorian Season 4?

We’re having to wait a bit longer than we’d like for The Mandalorian Season 3, but we know it will be worth it. But being the Star Wars nerds that we are – we’re already asking the question – The Mandalorian Season 4….. will it happen?

In a recent interview with People Magazine, series star Giancarlo Esposito (who plays Moff Gideon”) commented, “We’re living in a universe that is huge and [that has] so much to explore. So I think this show is going to start to lay the groundwork for the depth and breadth that’s going to come in Season 3 and Season 4, where you’re really gonna start to get answers.”

So the news sounds good for The Mandalorian! Though with multiple spin-off series in the works, it’s possible that the series could end or even return under a different name. At least that’s one of the theories we’ve heard circulating on Twitter and other fellow geek sites.

What would you like to see for the future of the series after the upcoming season? Sound off in our comment section below!
